Hunter: WotLK: Hunter Pet Skills

In Wrath of the Lich King, each hunter family will have its own unique skill, just as Warp Stalkers currently have Warp. We now have some of the details, courtesy of Mania of Mania's Arcania and Petopia!

General Info

• Pet skills are separate from pet talents, in the same way that hunter skills are seperate from hunter talents. Don't mix them up!
• Pets no longer learn skills the old way. The entire Beast Training system is completely gone, as is Loyalty.
• Every pet knows four active skills when it is tamed: Growl, Cower, a physical attack, and a family skill.
• There are three physical attacks (Bite, Claw, and Smack) but they are identical in every way except name and icon. All three physical attacks are focus dumps just like Claw is now.
• Each family has a completely unique family skill that no other family can get (described below).
• Each pet also knows all five resistance skills when it is tamed.
• Avoidance, Cobra Reflexes, Dash & Dive, Great Stamina, and Natural Armor are now talents instead of skills. They exist in all three talent trees and are available to all pets.
• Charge has also become a talent, but is only available in the Ferocity tree.
• Pet skills gain ranks automatically as the pet levels.

Mine is Ravagers: Violently attack an enemy for damage, stunning it for 2 sec.

Cobra Reflexes - Rank 2/2
Increases your pet's attack speed by 30%. Your pet will hit faster but each hit will do less damage.

Dash - Rank 1/1
Increases your pet's movement speed by 80% for 15 sec.

Great Stamina - Rank 3/3
Increases your pet's total Stamina by 12%.

Natural Armor - Rank 2/2
Increases your pet's armor by 10%.

Spiked Collar - Rank 3/3
Your pet does an additional 9% damage with all attacks.

Lionhearted - Rank 2/2
Reduces the duration of all Stun and Fear effects used against your pet by 30%.

Carrion Feeder - Rank 1/1
Your pet can generate health and happiness by eating a corpse. Will not work on the remains of elemental or mechanical creatures.

Owl's Focus - Rank 2/2
Your pet has a 10% chance after using an ability that the next ability will cost no Focus if used within 8 sec.

Cornered - Rank 2/2
When at less than 35% health, your pet does 50% more damage and is 50% less likely to be critically hit.

Feeding Frenzy - Rank 2/2
Your pet does 40% additional damage to targets with less than 20% health.

Roar of Recovery - Rank 1/1
Your pet's inspiring roar restores 40% of your total mana over 8 sec.

i was looking at wind serpents since that's what my hunter raids with. interesting build for a ravager.

it's nice tho to finally see some pets classed as "tanks" and "dps"

having 3 stable slots might not be so bad after all

Yeah, I like the fact my Ravager can tank ok, and still put out some decent DPS. The other pet I'm going to get is the Warpstalker, but that's because it's so darn cute!

I'll be sticking with Cat/Windserpent/Scorpid - should be versatile enough to let me do anything from Tanking to DPS to Utility/grinding....

Scorpid tank? Yeah, that should work (note, this is with 51 points in BM for the extra pet talent points):

Well my wife will be sticking to her Hyena because...... she just thinks he's a cutie. His name is Stinky Although, if that 51 point Beastmaster talent is included in Wrath of the Lich King as is, she's very excited to get a Giraffe and a Zhevra to keep her Hyena company.

Is it just me or does it seem you really need to go BM to get the bonus 5 to get the good stuff? I have not been able to come up with a Ferociousness build I was content with as MM.

it further divides the hunter specs and makes a BM hunter truely stand out aside from the 3% damage boost they give to the party

I would expect a BM to get 'more' and have greater pet synergy. But, as it stands, a MM hunter cannot even obtain a last tier ability - that seems extreme and lopsided to me.

EDIT: The Current tooltips are incorrect. Ghostclaw (beta tester) confirms that all tiers require three points per previous tier, which means non-BM hunters can get the tier 5 talents.

This seems more in keeping with what the devs seem to have intended.
