Does Warlock get any better at higher levels?

Hey guys, I've been playing my shadow priest and warlock off and on for a couple months now, I decided that my shadowpriest which is level 49 now might not be the best class to use for arena pvp since most people would just rather have the priest heal instead of dps, too bad though.

So I've moved over to my lock which is only level 27(Undead). My problem is, that I cant survive any 1 on 1 encounters, especially if they are 2 levels above me. This isnt the case with my priest, since level 20 on my preist I pwnd everyone in a one on one fight except warlocks(who always whip me) even 2 to 3 levels higher than me and this is the case with my 60 mage, I always lost to a warlock 1 on 1.

But I dont see my warlock being very good at one on one fights at all. Like my priest when a rogue jumps me, I can instant fear, shield, ve, sw:p flay and mindblast him and usually always come out on top, they must suck cause I've never been stun locked to 0, I have been stun locked pretty low before but never all the way down.

But with my Warlock, as soon as he jumps me rogue or kitty form druid there's not much I can do, cause I level with my void walker since any other pet and Im oom while leveling or Im taking too much damage and have to unload more mana. When I try to get the fear off, I get it off when I have like 10% health left, and from there if I mess up one time with not getting a fear off to chain fear them Im dead everytime.

And it doesnt seem like deathcoil will fix this very much with its cool down, is it really that usefull? How do you guys run with your succubus and keep your health and mana up? I could really see my succubus helping with my situatuion in world pvp ganks, but Im always oom and ooh when leveling with her, cause she cant tank and I cant wand after dotting while she takes damage, which I can do with my vw.

I really like my shadowpriest I just wish they were wanted for arena pvp, as Im good with him. Maybe I just need more lock practice? I mean yah I have 49 levels of practice with my priest and 37 levels of alliance preisting, so I know more about the priest than the lock.

I read the keep getting own thread, but that only applies to level 60 pvp and that guy being undergeared, Im worried about it getting any better as I level, I want to be able to protect myself and win/lose sometimes not lose everytime.

Well Im done QQ'ing thanks for any help.

Re: Does Warlock get any better at higher levels?

I'm currently lvling a lock from scratch . My main

I find that he start to win at level 42 when you get Death Coil, Dark Pact(Affliction) and Howl of Terror . I'm not saying you lose till you get to 42 but I'm saying 42 is when you start owning . I won like prolly 80% compared to like 30% in my 30s in duels . At 42 your puppy gets Paranoia which owns Druids/Rogues , not to mention Spell Lock which owns casters.

Can't win a hunter and a pally well yet .

I started using Succy at late 30s, actually at 40 when i get Dark Pact. It's really like wad the forums says, hardly any downtime . I use VW for all the time, but he'll start slowing you down cos he can't take aggro when you're in the high 30s .

Hope this helps. Can't say much since I'm only 44 atm :(

Re: Does Warlock get any better at higher levels?

In the 20-29 bracket, you should be a god. I PvPed extensively in that bracket, and it is a great learning field for getting used to PvPing in the pre-60 bracket.

My first tip is ditch the voidwalker. In PvP he is practically useless as he does pathetic dps, and if you're dying, in most cases sacrifice is only going to stave off the inevitable for a few seconds. Both imp and succubus do more damage, which by itself, regardless of their other abilities, can help to turn the tide of battle in your favour.

From level 26 onwards, you have seduce, which makes your succubus your best friend in PvP. Set up a macro to use seduce and hotbar it. (There are plenty of threads on doing this in the Interface and Macro's section of this board) Practice using it, and practise some more.

Your biggest threat in this level bracket is rogues. If you're not fighting, make sure your target box is clear. The moment one attacks you, they'll be on your target box. Spam that seduce button, and resist the urge to use instant dots. Get some distance while the rogue is seduced and drop a fear on him, then load up with all your dots, starting with the longest cast time ones. Seduce will break from the dots, but you usually have a few seconds before the first tick comes in.

At this point your fear may still be on, or they may have trinketted out as soon as seduce broke. Usually though, fear will last a bit. You can either fear them again, or run away and lets your pet and dots eat at them. If you've got instance corruption, refresh corruption and Curse of Agony on the move.

These tactics will work against almost any class in that level bracket. For mages, do your best to keep them feared from the get go. Once you get used to using seduce, you'll become much harder to beat. Taking down two people at once by fearing and dotting one, while holding the other seduced becomes viable.

One of the real reasons this works so well at your level range is that many key abilities other classes have to break fear / seduce aren't gained until after level 30.

I advise you get the trinket which lets you break polymorph / fear / charm effects as soon as possible, as well as the AB trinket that absorbs damage. Both are extremely handy at all levels. Also worthwhile is a mod such as necrosis which will track how long is left on your dots, and Naturenemy Castbar which will show how long is left on your seduce, as well as what everyone else is casting around you.

And, as is said in most threads, if you're not doing well, then practice, practice, practice.

you do realise that Undeads have Will of the Forsaken at level 1.....Will of the Forsaken+Trinket renders fear/Seduce useless vs any undead, your best shot vs a undead Rogue if you get jumped at 20-29 would probably be to just load as much damage on him as you can, and hoppe that he dies before you, and if not he will surely die afterwards unless he is twinked and has lotsa hps.

Stixx says, "So I've moved over to my lock which is only level 27(Undead)." Stixx won't be facing Horde Rogue's, so Swoop's comments are applicable in this case.

you will find out if you gear and levels improve that you will love your warlock.
BUT a warlock is the char that breaks the back of most people because it's hard to play.

Guidline : if it can be disoriented, a warlock can kill it....

Re: Does Warlock get any better at higher levels?

not sure if i have just been lucky, or it is meant to work this way, but lately i have been grinding with my succubus out, with all of her auto casts off except for seduce, and when im fighting mobs (usually 1v1 as i normally fight a couple levels above me) she does her normal damage as i throw all my dots on then drain, and when i get jumped/ganked/whatever word you wanna use, she stops attacking the mob and automatically seduces whoever attacked me, and as long as it isnt an undead whatever (not too often =/ ) i can either re-dot the mob to ensure it dies, then bomb/dot the horde and then drain

i always keep healthstones/pots hotkeyed, and more often than not, just outlast whomever i am fighting, i have only lost a handful of world PvP 1v1s at around the same level, and even beat a level 42 mage at level 29ish because both my pot and HS crit'd (had a little help from the mountain lion that he aggro'd...but still :-D )

if theres ever a chance that i can get jumped somewhere (which is pretty much everywhere at my level now mid-30s) i always have the succ out...that may change when i get more 'talents' for the felhunter, but right now, that seduce saftely blanket is very handy

Re: Does Warlock get any better at higher levels?

Sounds like they fixed the succubus again. When they first had her in, she would automatically seduce an add for you. (so long as she could seduce it, of course!) However, some time ago they broke this and instead of seducing the add, she would try and seduce your main target. e.g. the one that you've dotted up and stuff.

Thanks to this, I ended up getting used to controlling her manually, which in some respects I am grateful for, as it taught me to quickly locate targets, hit the seduce button, and then learn how to re-apply seduce as soon as it wore off etc. That said, it sounds as though they've fixed this. I might have to have a play!
