A run-in with a Hunter today(Not a rant)

Hello all, I've been a long time lurker but I hardly ever post... Sorry if my English isn't top notch as it is not my native language. I just wanted to share an event that happened to me today and ask some questions based on it.

So, I've been grinding in Felwood(satyrs) lately as I can grind them very efficiently, it's good money, and possibly farming for RotV materials. Today, the camp was just myself (level 54) and an alliance hunter(lv60) who was kind enough to share the camp with me so we both equally killed as much as we could and got the repops right after. For better understanding of what's to follow, I'm affliction-specced.

A few hours into the grinding session, and a few minutes before I hit level 55, the hunter just randomly sends his pet at my Succubus from a distance. This caught me a bit off guard, and it gave the hunter time to kill my Succubus and point the arrow of doom at me. As he was very far he send his pet at me (arrogant move, maybe?) which I feared as it ran towards me. I then ran towards him(dead zone, took some hits before that), Death coiled, applied dots, feared, and used drain-life while his pet attacked me. To my surprise, he died well before I did!

I'm not a bad sport so I just said leave it, I let him ress properly and went on with my grinding. And he came back! This time I was a bit more prepared. I seduced him, feared pet, shadow bolted and applied DOTs right after, then used iHoT. He was toast. I then levelled to 55 while occasionally killing a very frustrated alliance hunter.

Now... that shouldn't be happening. I have relatively good gear but... that's nuts. For future reference, what did the hunter do wrong? I'm curious to know why I had the upper hand even though I got jumped both times... Is it a skill issue, spec issue?

Also, what are your thoughts on actually spending time to get the RotV now, with all the new gear coming out in the expansion? Thanks in advance, I apologize for the long post.

I just recently got my Robe of the Void and I'm glad I did. I mean, it's THE reason I became a tailor. And the game isn't JUST about gear, it's about accomplishment. And having EARNED that RoTV was a pretty good feeling.

Also, I'd suggest you farm Satyrs in NE Azshara. Almost as plentiful as in Felwood, but there's never anyone up there. You'll have the place all to yourself and you can grind all day.

got the ROTV early on, and I have worn the damn thing for probably almost a year. needless to say im looking forward to some new duds, but yes, Id say it's been worth it.

Just a heads up to two of the replies so far... I don't think the thread was about the RoTV...

As Bychance said however, I will have to agree... I don't think the Hunter was a very good one. Did he drop an ice trap at any point? Did he FD at all? Those would be the first to things I would have done if I was the Hunter, and I'm far from a good PvPing Hunter.

Depending on his spec (did his pet go big and red?) He should have been able to bring your health down to around half or worse before you got into his dead range - concussive, arcane, multi etc. You mentioned how he was far away on the first one, he should have been able to demolish you before you got close enough...

I have witnessed more sucky Hunter's in PvP on my Warlock than I have good ones, so what you described is not a surprise. Course it is the reason we kept getting nerfed because a level 60 goes and cries "zomg I couldn't even take a level 55 one!!"

Yeah, I thought the same myself. I've been PVPing a lot during my warlock career, and usually hunters that are even my level just flat out decimate me if the range is in favor.

The pet seemed the same all throughout the fight, and it didn't break fear at all. Also, no traps activated but there wasn't really any time for preparation for either of us.

Demonblade: You're absolutely right, it's the same reason I became a tailor and I might as well finish that goal. Thanks for the heads up of satyrs, I'll look into that. It'll help a lot.

While I was reading your post,Darkomen, I immediatly thought that this ally hunter, level 60 with pet-autoattack was in fact a farming Bot.
Observe him a little bit the next time you see him. Does his attack go:
Hunters Mark,send pet, autoshoot, loot, run around in circles, rinse and repeat?
There are so many of those annoying bot programs out there. Felwood,BurningSteppes,Tanaris....they seem to be everywhere.
Mainly hunters level 60 with crappy green BoE stuff, unnamed pets (Boar,Cat,Owl) killing 24h/24.

I managed to kill an ally bot (I am ally too) in felwood for more than 15 times- I banished his target, he did even not recognize that the target was immune and hit it for over 20 rebanishs.
So I feared his next target right into a large pack of satyrs and watched him runnig after it...he dit continue to auto-shot his target while 5 satyrs hit him to death.
He was back 5 or 10 minutes after this, and I refeared his target...I think his stuff got zero durability after some deaths.
Saw him back the next day, on the same spot, doing the same stuff..

I find that they are really annoying, when I tried to help out a friend for his Onyxiaquest chain, it took us about one hour to (find and) kill some elite dragonkins, the place was and is still infested with bots.

My first thought was also that you ran into a bot. Did you actually /emote back and forth at all?

/agree that was a bad hunter. Frost trap, silencing shot... aimed shot while you are running, scatter shot... just too many ways a hunter owns you 1:1 if he gets the jump on you.
