Lost to a paladin.

I just hit 42 last nite and before I logged a level 45 paladin wanted to duel. So I accepted and started off by walking backwards casting Corr and Curse of Agony while having my succ seduce him. Got maximum distance and hit him with a ShadowBolt and then fear followed by another ShadowBolt. He broke fear and came at me hitting me several times until I got another seduce on him and put another Corr on him followed by another ShadowBolt by this time he put up his bubble and fully healed. I hit him with another ShadowBolt when his bubble left followed by Corr and Curse of Agony while walking backwards trying to get another seduce off which didn't happen. I tried fear which he was immune but I did manage to get off a Howl and used 1 more ShadowBolt followed by a ShadowBurn. He had 1 spec of life left when he got to me and hit me for the killing blow. During this whole fight I did not heal or use a potion. What kinda irks me is him saying gd but then followed by I must have had tons of stamina gear and I said no I am about shadowdamage. He then preceeded to say that warlocks are usually so easy to kill and so I said well you know if I had even used a potion or healthstone this fight would have been over and he said no way, warlocks are just to weak. At that point I didn't say anything else. Anyway sorry for the ranting on but its people like that that just annoy me, that they can't even acknowledge the truth. Just wanted to share my experience,

Jason

Ahh forgot to mention, at the end I did use deathcoil for the first time, which was nice.

Re: Lost to a paladin.

No worries Jason.

Soon this pally will learn just how powerful warlocks are. As for your strategy, I would suggest not starting off with double curses as you can only have one curse at a time on any single mob/player. Personally I like to start off with Curse of Shadows and Seduction. then Blast them with a shadow bolt at max range followed by fear. Load em up with all to dots you got (Curse of Agony, Immolate, and Corruption at your level / spec i believe) and either drain life or spam Shadow bolts until fear expires, then repeat.

Remember that Fear is now shorter, and subject to diminishing returns, making you only get 3 fears each one shorter than the last. I believe the max length you get on fear 1 is 12 seconds. then 8 and 6 (someone correct me if i'm wrong on that). So its good to keep a count in your head so that you do not encounter immune and have wasted time that could have gone for a nice shadow bolt or searing pain.

Next time I'm sure you'll get him.

Re: Lost to a paladin.

@Pernicious: I'm not sure where he said he used double curses? He started with corruption and Curse of Agony.

@silversvt: try to drain life to heal up. fights with pallyes and shammes are usualy longer than the others (due to lots of healing) but we should win at the end :P

Re: Lost to a paladin.

My bad, I saw Cor and was thinking Curse of Recklessness. Which seemed like an odd choice. :P

Re: Lost to a paladin.

When dueling, i noticed you refrained from using Death-Coil and your health potions, you noticed he didnt refrain from bubbling up and fully healing. You were given those spells as your class to use. If they can't understand that, too bad, dont duel Warlocks, or expect to die. Thats my Motto.......

Re: Lost to a paladin.

Seems to me like you did well. The only "mistakes" from what you wrote, would be not keeping track on the diminishing returns from fear/seduce and walking backwards when casting dots instead of strafing or running. Remember that fear and seduce shares diminishing returns.

Re: Lost to a paladin.

Also remember that Death Coil is not (atm anyway) subject to diminishing returns and it damages him as well as heals you. Used right at the end, this would've given you the win.

Re: Lost to a paladin.

One thing I noticed is you were DoTing him and then seducing. The DoTs will break seduce, so maybe if you waited to seduce after the DoTs ran out it would've been more effective.
