Casual pve player in need of arena help
Hey all, As title says im quite a casual player and im on a pve server. I havent really pvp'd with my lock before and now i just hit 70 me and my friend (BM Hunter) have made a 2v2 arena team. Now we dont do great but we dont do bad, we win some, we lose some. My question is, is there a guide or could anyone tell me how to fight against other classes and specs? I am slowly learning but sometimes get confused on my main role (dps or interupt healer?) who i can/cant fear/seduce without them breaking it easily, who to target first, who can remove my dots. Any help appreciated ![]() Thanks |

Re: Casual pve player in need of arena help
It's hard to find a guide that has information you don't already know. I suggest duels, a lot of them. It will help you gain knowledge of what the other classes can/can't do. None of the fear/charm trinkets work forever and usually have a big cool-down so stack on the +stamina gear to live through the initial onslaught. As far as a healer goes, they are going to follow their team-mate around and throw heals and not even worry about dps so keep them busy or even better, burn them down quick off the bat. |

Re: Casual pve player in need of arena help
In addition to BT's comments, I'd recommend you do BGs together for the practice. Stick to BGs like WSG & EOS where you can work as a team and where there's more close quarters battles. AB will give you too much butt-time on guard to provide any real experience and AV would be even worse. The problem with 2v2 and probably all arenas is there's not alot of time for discussion and planning. Sometimes you can blink and there'll be a corpse on the ground. The more time you spend working together the more success you'll have. Quote:

Re: Casual pve player in need of arena help
Here's a few pointers: HP: 10k minimum, shoot for 12k+ Resilience: 150 minimum, shoot for 350+ Talents, pick 2 minimum, shoot for 3-4: CoEx Siphon Life iHoT Soul Link Demonic Resilience Nether Protection Backlash Opponents: The following classes can remove fear/DoTs from their teammates: Paladin Priest Warlock w/ Felhunter The following classes can remove fear/DoTs from themselves: Paladin Priest Mage (Iceblock, 21 pt. Frost talent) Rogue (CLoS) Warlock (Spellstone and/or Felhunter) ------------------------------ Which class gets which curse? Rogue/Hunter/Warrior: CoEx or Curse of Agony if no CoEx talent Mage/healer/Lock: Curse of Tongues --------------------- DPS order: really depends on group makeup, but here's what I normally go with: Non-Paladin Healer Warlock (yes, we're pretty darn squishy, regardless of spec) Hunter Other Ranged/Melee DPS Warrior Paladin -------------------------- Dealing with healers You have 5 interrupts: 3x Fear (20s Diminishing Return cooldown) Death coil (2min cooldown) Spell Lock (24s cooldown) If your teammates can't burn down one of their DPS toons before you've used all 5 interrupts, you're back to square 1. Remember, a Holy/Resto specced healer is capable of healing through raid bosses hitting for 2-3k DPS, so your 500 DPS won't even make a dent in 1.5-2.5k HPS. Controlling their healers is your #1 priority. -Gritz |

Re: Casual pve player in need of arena help
I know you cant 'ditch' your friend and swap another member in, but without a lot of co-ordination this will definitely not be one of those pally+warrior combos where most things come easily. |

Re: Casual pve player in need of arena help
Here is the best advise I can give you. Casual - strike 1 PvE - strike 2 Little PvP XP - strike 3 I know this looks/sounds harsh but the people you will be fighting won't have these limitations. Start doing BG's to get some PvP experience first. |

Re: Casual pve player in need of arena help
I agree w/ ggreen; it's not harsh. I love PvP, grinded exalted in AB/WSG/AV, duel constantly (undefeated in 1v1 since I respecced 24/37/0), and am geared nearly to the gills w/ 800 +damage, 12k HP, and 322 resilience. With all of that, not a single one of my Arena teams is >1600 rating. Granted, a lot of that could be due to no healers, and teammates w/ PvE-centric specs/gear getting 1-2 shotted; but it's pretty disheartening regardless. -Gritz |

Re: Casual pve player in need of arena help
I'm suprised at your rating gritz, your gear appears to be better than mine. Yet your ratings could be described as some what 'mediocre'. Armoury is failing for me at the moment. But are your partners really that bad???

Re: Casual pve player in need of arena help
Out of all my teammates, only 1 is somewhat specced for PvP (BM Hunter w/ 10k HP, 2pc of the Arena s1 set). The others are mostly all guildies, who I get along really well with, and are excellent in PvE. The problem is that none of them have a separate PvP set, resilience gear, PvP talents, etc. On top of that, many of them aren't well versed in all the things that you can only learn by running BGs for hours on end - focus/counterspell on healers; cyclone/shift/bash/shift/cyclone, LoS kiting ranged classes, etc. I can hold my own pretty well, but if my teammates can get taken down in <5 seconds, I'm pretty much SOL. -Gritz |
