Perfered Lock Twink Level?

My buddy rolled a Lock, and wants to twink it. He asked me for advice on which bracket would be best for a Warlock... I really don't know what to tell him, as I solo'd my way to 70 with zero BG experience.

His lock is level 20, and has a 70 Druid and a 68 Mage, so funds and items are no problem to obtain.

But which bracket would be better to spend time in as a Lock... he was thinking 29.

Any advice / strats you guys have will be very helpful.

Re: Perfered Lock Twink Level?

It all really depends, but I would probably go with 39 because then you have all of your pets and there is decent + damage gear (in 29 all you really have is BG rewards and 1(?) stave with +shadow). Expect to get most of you damage from enchants.

49 is great for Affliction locks. No 41 point talents for anyone but you get instant howl of terror.

It is also past the point where druids are kings among flag runners.

Re: Perfered Lock Twink Level?

The 29 bracket is very strong since many classes don't have too many abilities to break your Seduce or Fear.
And yes, you get Seduction at 26 which is a good reason to not stop at 19.

I've been currently running in the 39 bracket, and I feel slightly weaker against well geared warriors. Mages also started using spell lock, but that usually is not a problem. Locks just don't lose to mages, period

Rogues haven't been a problem for me so far - seduce, 1 long nuke, fear, dots and nuke, done - they're squishy after you get them away from you.

So generally, high 30s is pretty good and some nice gear becomes available, from instances or random world drops, like the "Underworld Band, for example.

However, I'm assuming that the 40s will be even stronger since you'll gain some nice new abilities. Death Coil is an important one.

Re: Perfered Lock Twink Level?

Yeah, I was straight Affliction in the 49 bracket and it felt like I was unstoppable.

Note that Death Coil, our best PvP ability, is gained at level 42.

I'm in 39 myself..and I clean house with my afflock. I'm only 3/4 twinked out and I dominate hard. I've heard that 49 is the same way (cause of iHOT). I'd recommend one of those two tiers for sure. If you need to look at some gear, you can look at Twille (in Bloodlust) or Premier (also in Bloodlust) at level 39.

Re: Perfered Lock Twink Level?

@19 we are incredibly limited, but can still top the damage charts
@29 hunters and rogues are incredibly twinked and we have limited +damage
@39 we are now able to field a comfortable array of craftable and dropped twink type +damage items (scarlett monastery is yummy); I think 39 would be great fun to twink. You can also max engineering and if you go gnome, weeee. And we could now have Siphon Life + CoEx.

@49 Pre-40, classes with natural speed buffs have quite some advantages; With a mount you can really stay in the action, and death coil and iHoT are HUGE.

I would suggest taking them to 39 and twinking at that point. Some of the 39 +damage/+shadow gear may still be best in class at 49 and could take BC enchants without wasting them if you decide to advance to 49.

Find out which faction is dominating which bracket and how the queue lengths are for your battlegroup.
