PvP Help
I am specced 23/38/0 and wonder if it is even possible to beat rogues that does not suck terribly. I have around 10500 hp and 300 resilience so not that bad gear. The usual game goes like this.
* I get stunned. * trinket out of the kidney shot and uses dc. * tries to get a fear off * add some dots, including CoE so I can try to kite * rogue uses CoS * now he got 2 options, eighter use vanish and stun me to death(because I got no defense left) or use that annoying deadly throw which makes it impossible to kite + gets me silenced for 3 secs ( if they have pvp gloves which most seems to have ) and runs back to me and kill me. You cant really drainlife on a rogue because you get stunned all the time and they use kick. If things for some reason should go bad for the rogue he can always use his instant CC with range in other words blind. Just seems like rogues has extremely much utility, there is no way to get rid of them because they have things to counter all our attacks. Have to ventilate a bit =) , the thing I should ask is really if there is any way to get rid of the deadlythrow-debuff ? ( except trinket ) Or is it just to except you will die? Re: Rogue Question
I'd suggest using Howl of Terror over fear if the Rogue is close, or if you think he'll be close by the time HoT goes off. It has a shorter cast time than Fear which should help you regain a few seconds. Since the nerf to Fear, you probably wont even notice any change in how long the Rogue remains feared. When he uses CloS, Continue to toss DoT's on him, its a 90% magic resistance I believe, but you still might get one on him. i'd spam Curse of Agony, or Corr if you have the instant version.
Make sure your pet is attacking this entire time, if its Succubus, you can try Seduction. Sometimes I've noticed, when a rogue vanishes after a pet starts casting, they still will hit the rogue with their spell after he's gone. The imp fireball is good for this because once it's cast, it's locked on and should hit even if he vanishes before the fireball gets to him, It may knock him out of vanish. If you have Barov's Peasent Caller you can use that for added confusion, it also makes it harder for the rogue to vanish. I recall at one point that the peasants could see through stealth (saved my butt). That was a while ago and could have been fixed by now. When all else fails, guzzle some Swiftness Potions and get the heck out of there when he Vanishes, He can sprint after you, but since both Pot and sprint have the same duration and speed bonus, he wont get any closer than he already was, Gives you time to let his CloS expire and then with all his spells on cooldown, you have the advantage. Just some Ideas. Last edited by Pernicious; August 27, 2007 at 06:46 AM. |

Re: Rogue Question
Thanks for the answer.
I am specced 23/38/0 so for me howl of terror hasnt got a shorter casting time than fear :/ I know the succubus is quite good vs rogues, but the problem is that the succubus is quite bad in arena because she dies so easy so I run with the felhunter, which is good vs all casters but useless against melee ( except paranoia). Might have to use fel domination if I notice there is a rogue there and summon a succu. |

Re: Rogue Question
In arena you don't have much to do. You may ask for help. A healer is the best , if not, another rogue or warrior will be fine. Then you can switch targets as anything other than a rogue or warrior is ok for us.
In BG I've decided to use free action potion Use: Makes you immune to Stun and Movement Impairing effects for the next 30 sec. Does not remove effects already on the imbiber. Just use it when you see a rogue vanishes around or right after getting out of stun. |

Re: Rogue Question
I think succu is gonig to be needed to counter rogues effectively.
*get stunned. *use seduce then CoEx(with amp) and get as far away as you can. *Cast fear once seduce is nearly broken(having the rogue seduced for 10seconds in unlikely so go fast) *DoTs *Rogue uses CoS *you call for nerf :p j/k *try and seduce him asap (I.e hope to god it works, although most likely succu is dead in which case try and fear him/HoT asap) *fear use your DoTs again (if he is at low heath use Curse of Agony and not CoEx) *hope that he dies before he comes back and kicks your butt :p Alt wins *call for help :p *go on wow forums and complain about how Imba rogues are lol and cry out for nerf like mages do with us Mind you since I have never been in a Bg or arena with rogues I might be underestimating CoS. Well I hope its of some use ![]() |

Re: Rogue Question
By using trinket and DC together, you're blowing both of your escapes. Either wait out the KS and DC him after into a fear, or trinket the KS, run foward, CoX him and start kiting. Either way, you're saving one of your escapes for when he catches you again (because he will). It's no guarantee of a win, but it will help. A Succubus isn't a bad idea either, as it's another way to gain ground.

Re: Rogue Question
The key thing is to be as far away as you can when he pops Cloak of Noobpwnthecastersandwinzors. It's only a few seconds, but you can go from stunned to dead in that time. Try to save your DC for right after he pops it. Spend a lot of time fearing him, and casting dots. Did I mention run?
I have to do that a lot. |

Re: Rogue Question
I can relate, I always get this hopeless feeling in WSG when I see an Un-Dead Rogue come down off the cliff by their graveyard, then the "swoooosh" noise and they are gone. At that point I start twirling arround, maybe drop rain of fire on myself, I can only imagine what I look like to other players.
Anyways, not long after that I get stunned, by time I break stun and DC I am almost dead, a couple instant dots and he is back on me to finish me off. I do have a Pally friend that likes to use me as rogue bait, she is very good at dropping in behind the stealthed rogue to stun them before they get to me. That seems to work the best for me ![]() |

Re: Rogue Question
The best defense against a rogue in Arena is a Shadow Priest. Mainly because they will almost always go after the Priest first. We basically just start alternating Fears and DoT as much as possible. After he trinkets and CloS he is doomed. The DoTs and Fears are going to kill him after that.
