pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
this might be a dumb question but ive heard that in battlegrounds its sometimes better to have pve gear for the +damage for battlegrounds instead of pvp gear that has more stamina+resilence... is this true? |

No. While you can get by in PvE gear in a BG it is not optimal. It comes down to how comfy you are just getting by verses obtaining the gear designed to excel in that style of gameplay.

Re: pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
PvP gear is designed for PVP , that kind of gear is always better then PVE in PVP, the resillience in PVP gears makes it possible to surive for a while during a PVP match, try to do that with PVE (with almost no resillience) |

Re: pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
That's not true actually. PvE gear has places in PvP. It is quite uncommon for cloth wearing classes, but the higher your armor gets, you can rather get more damage. I know of some 2000 rating paladin who doesnt wear a single slots PvP, but he has T6 quality epic gemmed all over. If I place defense in Battlegrounds I wear my Arena gear. If I go offense I get +250 damage and lose 200 resilience and 2.5K HP but I am still wearing some PvP pieces. In Arena it's even more complicated if you are Damage dealer or tank most of the time. Indeed you need some PvP gear to do great in PvP. You just don't need only PvP gear. 200 Resilience and 11 K HP can work against the occational collataral damage if you are not a single target. |

Re: pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
In the normal bgs the quality of players you come up against aren’t high enough to demand high resiliance. Normally you either get mobbed or ignored either case the pvp gear doesn’t help out that much. I used my tailor crafted gear to max out spell damage (as affliction though it was mainly trying to dot as many people as possible while watching out for rogues who seem to be the most abundant class there is doing bgs). Introductory arena is murder if you don’t have full S1. They can see if your not sl and you WILL go down like a load of bricks. I hate arena since it pretty much forces you to gimp your damage and in 5v5 it’s worthless to take a lock cause fear is a joke and all your dots are going to be dispelled. Sorry this kinda turned into a rant about how useless we are 5v5 and to an extent 3v3 but back on topic it depends on your spec / play style but gladiators gear is much less important in normal BGs than in arena; at least for locks. |

Re: pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
You don't need full Arena. Go SL/SL with Demonic Resilience, get 100-150 resilience and 10K HP and you will NOT drop dead in a second. 450 resilience and 13K HP IS better but doesn't make a difference like you can't farm some points in the 1400-1500 range. Concerning the rant: I am no big 3vs3 or 5vs5 expert, but warlock friends who do say that Curse of Tongues + Deathcoil + Silence + Curse of Ex + Dispell + Selfsufficient (healing) warlock + Healthstone is NOT worthless. Not the slightest bit. Even if you don't cast fear any more. Last edited by neej; December 19, 2007 at 03:45 PM.. |

Re: pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
I just hate how 3v3 and 5v5 force players into cookie cutter survival builds. SL/SL locks, frost mages, MS wars, Hemo/AR rogues, BM hunter; pretty much ever dps class has to spec into a survival tree to be viable and being forced to play a style you dislike or are unfamiliar with isn't my cup of tea. Yeah yeah its not intended its just how these specs pan out in group combat and I know that skill can come into play in making off spec chars viable but to get the 2k raiting its more about group make up than anything. Oh and thank god for the AR / Hemo nerf next patch having hemo hitting for more than SS and 20s of Adrenaline Rush was just stupid. |

Re: pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
I think we should avoid turning this more into some general Arena System / class balance rants. Whilst I do agree with some spec problems I still enjoy this system and can perfectly well live with its limitation, even I hate stunlocks more than ever. No one force you to play a certain build. There are actually a lot of examples of different builds in the top teams quite often, and even if not, I doubt everyone has the ambition to reach Top 10. |

Re: pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
While I can conceive of occasional scenarios, it does not seem prevalent enough to warrant sacrificing overall survivability. Although, it might just be that I'm too lazy to swap out gear for a minor stat swing (relatively) in a BG.

Re: pve gear or pvp gear for battlegrounds?
Unless your PvE gear has less than 3% hit, in which case it's terrible PvE gear, you waste a lot of stats if you use it in PvP. |
