You, a rogue, and the truth.

We've been talking alot about rogues and how to deal with them. As warlocks this is indeed our biggest problem, and I've been thinking about it, read alot of strategies. However, regarding this problem I just wanna ask a simple question that I think is beyond any strategy:.... If you face a rougue in 1Vs1 that is equal in gear or a little less then you (if he's better then there's no contest) do you really think you could ever win? Ofc I'm talking here about a rogue that has all his cooldowns up and you also have your's ready.

From what I've seen there is like 95% chance you will die during CloS. But if you somehow survive this, the rogue will just proceed to blind you.

So as a closure to this, and just expressing my total frustrasion, I wanna say that there is no way you can ever beat a rogue that also uses blind, there's just simply no way.

Re: You, a rogue, and the truth.

yes, i do.
Also depends a LOT on skill, if not more. If you are better skilled, you change the percentages, same as when he is better skilled.
I have been more and more practice vs rougues in bg now. Mostly they get me into a 1v1, so yeah.
At the start ( first series of battles ) i lost 100%
I am now getting that down a lot, ( 80 or so ) and am still a noob. Not even using my fellguard properly, and am mostly undergeared.
Also a big part into not loosing to a rogue is making shure he cant get to you. Since i see myself a lot as a support class ( cursing as many as quickly as possible to get general health down fast, so my partners can start killing, and doing dome crowd control and keep mages / healers down a notch ) i try and make shure i am allways close enough to classes that will help me get that rogue away BEFORE he kills me.
That is on BG tough, in arena, well, auch more.
So will see what happends when i get geared better ( almost have my first dreadgear part in, tough also thinkin on buying alliance escape medallion first )
But as sayd, dont get soloed out without backup, its a team game, stay with yer team, helps a LOT.

Re: You, a rogue, and the truth.

Mclore is in a better position than Vaell in one respect, in that he has an extra trinket with Will of the Foresaken but Warlocks in general haven't been mushrooms for a long time.

It does happen: warlocks can beat rogues but in essence what you are saying is correct, in that 1v1 they present the hardest fight.

There are many variables to take into consideration, and whilst it's tempting to hypothesize, there are times when these perfect conditions for rogue victory don't happen. I'm not talking about ganking them, I'm talking about:
  • Choice of demon: A melee demon can continue to hurt the rogue during CloS. A Succubus can seduce, while you emerge from stuns and get some distance. A Felhunter *does* help against stealthed rogues, you *can* spot them before they open. All demons will continue to chase a rogue if he restealths. Got a Voidwalker? Bubble Sac him when it matters most.
  • Spec: You don't have to rely on Deathcoil as the opener after the expected Kidneyshot / Gouge, if you have iHoT. Save deathcoil for after CloS if it's available. If you have a Felguard, use him to his full capacity. Keep intercept off auto and get creative with his positioning (see choice of demon)
  • Professions: Netherweave Nets and Frost Grenades aren't magic, so are handy for rooting to set up a Fear / nuke
  • Rogues: make mistakes. Let's assume that it isn't so much a class but another player we are up against. People make mistakes. Capitalize on them! It's what they do, really.
Most importantly, don't give up. Think like a rogue if you can, be an opportunist. I will agree, they are pains to fight but one warlock skill that isn't in the patchnotes is our ability to adapt.

Also: Killing a Rogue...Written by a Rogue. Probably should have pointed you there in the first place to continue that thread.

My bad; just goes to show that I don't PvP with my Undead >.<

*bad Vaell!*

Anyway, again this: Killing a Rogue...Written by a Rogue.

Again, should have jumped straight in with that, Zoli. We're trying to cut down on the amount of repeated themed threads around as an ongoing effort to improve the site. There's lots of Roguey threads around and if they answer you seek isn't in them, then ask in that thread if the question is relevant to it.

Thanks

Re: You, a rogue, and the truth.

Truth is if gear and skill are equal the rogue will take you. However, I have found that the rogue class has a lot of players that are lower in skill level. I've watched them burn a blind to early. I've watched them get baited into popping cloak of skill early. Are they a challenge to beat 1v1. Yeah, but their not impossible and that is what makes them fun. I love seeing them in my 2v2 arena as the holy pally I play with and I have worked out a good rhythm for beating them. In BG I find it's usually 2-3 mace rogues running around together and while I may stand a good chance 1v1 2v1 or 3v1 all I can do is hope to get the one down a little so someone else can take him out while I corpse march.

Re: You, a rogue, and the truth.

There is a BIG difference between fighting a rogue in 1800+ arena and fighting a random BG rogue.

In 2v2 my disc priest and me do pretty well we can even handle the dreaded warrior druid duo but a rogue, especially shadow step maces, and its pretty much GG.

Sure SL/SL or FG spec I can beat the average rogue 1v1 but against rogues who know how to play against a lock and have the gear and spec to back it up you almost never win.

BTW if you’re tired of dying to rogues roll a BM hunter you’ll still have trouble with wars but rogues wont be an issue for you.

Re: You, a rogue, and the truth.

Rogues are the only challenge in 1v1 ;p

And yes its possible to beat them in duels, even with them using blind etc
