Okay, what is up with resists?
Hello,
Okay, while dueling outside org, or in battlegrounds and arenas, I get a RIDICULOUS amount of spell resists. In the range of 5-10% it feels like, and I call this ridiculous because I have 3 points into suppression, which according to many people on the WoW forums, means I should have 0% of my spells resisted. Whats going on? MotW and Shadow Ward should be non-factors against my 50+ spell penetration right? Also, I would like to point out I have been having a hard time against rogues so lately I started stacking spell haste... and all I can say is wow. At 102 spell haste + the set bonus to Fear, the difference is night and day. I can actually get fears off against a rogue in melee, against a druid/rogue team in 2v2s just now I completely shut down their dps by getting off a few crucial fears. The faster mana drain is an added plus! :P |

Re: Okay, what is up with resists?
Got an armory link of what you're wearing during?
Also I'm fairly sure spell penetration ONLY applies to partial resists. I could be wrong though. Also are you getting resists on destro spells or both? Supression doesn't work for them but I'm sure you probably already know that. Just making some stabs in the dark as there isn't much info to work with. *** Information added 1 Minutes and 45 Seconds later... *** Nope nm it works for both full and partials. |

Re: Okay, what is up with resists?
Yeah sorry.
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...er&n=Fearstorm No, 95% of my spells were affliction, with the random searing pain every now and then. With 3/5 suppression, 30~ spell hit, and 50 spell pen, I should be good on resists yeah? But I still see at least 5-10% resists. |

Re: Okay, what is up with resists?
50 spell penetration won't negate pally auras, PoSP, and anything else that would give more than 50 resistance to shadow(since i'm sure that's what you're casting). It's the same thing as crit though, you can't base a small sample and say hey it doesn't match. Anything on a roll system will be like that. Also some races have natural resistances as well that stack with motw, posp, and the like.
Honestly I don't know what to say otherwise. Could just be bad luck. |

Re: Okay, what is up with resists?
I thought it was only spell penetration that affected the resist rate. I believe spell hit only mitigates misses. There is a difference between the two. Therefore, suppression wouldn't affect the rate of resist. (that is not to say you don't need some hit in pvp approx 28 if i recall to hit cap level 70)

Maybe try throwing curse of elements/shadows on your target first? /shrug

Re: Okay, what is up with resists?
No it's 3% you can do something about with spell hit and 1% you can do nothing about. 3% would be 37.8 hit rating.
Spell penetration basically reduces the resistances of your target by X but no greater than the resistances the target has. You can get spell misses due to resistance not just hit. |

Re: Okay, what is up with resists?
Quote:
With +3% to spell hit, +6% to Suppression, you have +9% to spell hit. Against rogues with heightened senses, paladins with unyielding faith, you should only be your fear 1% of the time. However, against preists with Unbreakable Will, and Feral druids with Primal Tenacity , you are only going to negate 9% of their 15% resistance to Fear. That will mean your spell hit related resist rate is 6-7%. From Spell resistance With 56 Spell Penetration, your target will still have some resistance left if they have Shadow Protection, Master Demonologist. Unless you use curse of shadows to completely negate those, you will have some resists from this as well. When you combine the 2 factors, and you can't really tell them apart from the comabt log, I would say 5-10% resist rate is pretty normal. Just try removing Suppression, and the spell hit gear, and you can start to tell the difference. |

Re: Okay, what is up with resists?
I have noticed a (to me at least) huge increase in resist/immune or just cast a spell & even though the cast timer goes its just like i had done nothing.
I had a really odd PvP with a BE paladin last night on my warlock-he was ret spec & so had repentance but he stunned me 3 times in less that 20 seconds. I can understand Hammer of justice for 1 & repentance for another but the third stun was really weird-we were well away from everyone else & he doesn't have imp. HoJ so the cooldown should be over 45 seconds on that. there were no explosions from explosives that can stun at times. I am at a loss to understand this. I have been PvPing both my 70s (the other is a dwarf paladin in mostly rep blues-though i got the S2 healing mace last night) & had a warrior run along side me whilst i was on my epic pally mount with crusader aura on so 20% speed increase. This warrior was as fast as my epic mount- he then went out a little & charge/stuned me. I was farming some primal water in the lake outside Shattrath (for healing enchant for pally mace) & the time on unending breath read 5 minutes remaining on UE breath. I killed 1 eel & drowned & I cast UE breath before i drowned & just kept drowning. Thats just a few examples of some (to me at least) really inexplicable things that seem to be happening since 2.4.3 came out. |
