Vent: My first Arena
finally tried arenas today..2v2 and some 3v3.I don't have the greatest gear, but still was talked into giving it a go. And i came to the conclusion that i just plan suck at pvp. we ended up going 0-10 on both arenas and in fact don't think we killed a single target. was very very frustration to say the least. I am affliction lock and seemed like I died very fast before i could even get some spells off. 75% of the time seemed my fear was resisted, and the dots I did get off only scratched the enemy. I felt like I was just target practice and didn't help my team at all.
this is just a vent tread for me to express my anger. Its either this or my fist through my keyboard |

Re: my first arena
Don't get too frustrated, remember when you start, you start with a 1500 rating...can be pretty difficult especially when your new to it all...going up against 1500 rated teams. You'll find that as your rating goes down you'll be matched up with some teams that are at your level and you will enjoy it more. At the end of the day, you get a cpl of points and will eventually get some gear out of it.
If you want a bit of survivability go SL/SL, but do whatever makes it more fun for you in the long run. Your job is to dot everyone up...run and pillar hump, dot and hide etc ![]() Cheers Blindy |

Re: my first arena
My fire specced mage friend and I went 0-10 our very first week (I was affliction as well) but didn't care as we just wanted the "free" points. Since them I respecced to SL/SL for arena and BGs and it makes a huge difference. Oh, and picked up a different partner. Now going about 50% -- we're still not very good but at least we survive longer than 10 seconds (well, most of the time).
Since you start at 1500 you're going to face some very tough teams at the beginning. Eventually you'll start facing teams of your own still level. So don't get discouraged, try respeccing, pick up some resilience gear if you don't have it (rep gear and BG rewards S2 honor gear) and you'll eventually start winning games. |

Re: Vent: My first Arena
If you like PvP don't worry and keep at it, i have 13.5k HP, 494 resilience, 926 spell damage totally unbuffed, 113 spell penetration and know more or less how to play at arena after being semi serious for 3 months, and i am still struggling to get past 1700, my highest has been 1699, why?
Composition makes a big part in arena and my partner is a holy pally, wich leave us with too many hard counters, but we keep at it. The satisfaction of killing a rogue/priest team once in a while its totally worth it, and besides, it seems like Wrath of the Lich King holy paladins will be a bit better at 2v2. Guess i personalized this too much, but what i am trying to say is that arena is a very highly competitive enviroment in which at anytime a bad decition may kill you, but for me its also an incredibly interesting game and the reason for me to keep WoW installed. Now, if PvP isn't your style, just go and play 10 matches per week, you will find yourself getting items to complete your PvE set with little efforth. |

Re: Vent: My first Arena
I got absolutely smashed in the opening weeks of S4 so it could be that.
Other points: * ~37 points (from a SL/SL build) in demonology survivability is mandatory for arena (Soul Link etc). * if your running with a healer, then SL/SL is best. * if your running with dps, then SL/SL build is fails as it doesn't have the required burst. The only other SL options are a FG, SL/Ruin or Pyrilus type build. I learnt this the hard way. I repeat, never run 2xdps;3xdps as SL/SL - it is fail. Good luck |

Re: Vent: My first Arena
thanks for the replies. I feel better
![]() I loved the felguard for his damage and stuns but other than that i hated him. I'm really happy with the affliction build. I have tried SL/SL (pre-arenas) and thought it was ok for bg's. When Wrath of the Lich King comes out we will be able to get soul link with full affliction ![]() |

Like everyone said, without the proper gear and experience, arenaing will be very frustrating at first, since you will be fighting against people better geared and more experienced than you. Also, BGing and arenaing are fairly different experiences - simply because one spec doesn't work very well in BGs doesn't mean it won't rock in arenas. Re: Vent: My first Arena
SL/SL is by far the most successful build for playing with a Rogue in 2v2. The only mainstream 2 DPS comps for Warlocks are Warlock/Shadow Priest (as UA) and Warlock/Rogue (as SL/SL). For other partners there isn't an established "best" build since so few people play them to really determine what works and what doesn't.

Re: Vent: My first Arena
Full Affliction with iHoT is awesome for BG's and I would assume its useful for 5s (never done 5s).
However anything else you're going to need to go SL/SL if you want to have any sucess. Also what is your group make up? I run with a Resto Shammie and we do ok, currently sitting at 1550 and when I get my Brutal Leggings then I should be able to move up to 1600-1650 and I'll get a new Ring and my Robe ![]() Basically its quite dependant right now, because we're still in the beginning stages of S4 a lot of people are not in the right bracket and as everybody does their game and upgrades their gear you'll fall into the right place. Also you ideally want to have 350+ Resil, 10k HP and 800+ Spell Damage unbuffed before you start it... though you could lose 10 games a week whilst you get the BG sets. |

Re: Vent: My first Arena
I switched to my old build to the felguard and we (my partner a BM hunter who is new to arena as well) and ended up going 8-14 after I changed. Was still tough at times, but I wasn't nearly as upset as when we first got going. I don't want to re-spec for pvp and pve everynight (still saving up for epic flyer)so even thou I thought about SL/SL I just ended up as FG again. I miss some talents from affliction and still might go back one day.
but thanks for the replies to 'calm' me down and teach me the ways of the arena |
