Orc/Undead dilemma.
Good day fellow Warlocks,
I recently made a new toon, an Orc Warlock. Mainly because I like the way Orc racials apply to a Warlock nowadays. My main character is an undead Warlock. Why two Warlocks you might ask? Well, since Wrath of the Lich King will have the new Inscription profession. You see, I like PvE and PvP and would like to continue doing both in Wrath of the Lich King. The new Inscription profession makes it more difficult for players to switch from PvP to PvE and vice versa. I fear it would become far too expensive for me to keep changing my glyphs. Anyway, enough chit-chat. On to my question. I would like to know which of my characters would be best for PvE or PvP (by looking at the racials) and why. In PvP, I have problems with rogues mainly. That's why I rolled an Orc in the first place. (a total of 20% stun resistance with the meta gem). I mainly play as an Affliction Warlock, because I love the freedom of movement whilst attacking and the easy conversion of mana to health and health to mana. That's about it, I guess. ![]() Should you need more information, just ask! |

UD racials are better suited to pvp while orc racials do have some pve use. I would use your undead for pvp you lose the stun resist however you gain an extra break and cannibalize(for bgs/world pvp). The orc racial is essentially a mini trinket in pve which is better then anything the UD lock can offer.

I wouldn't call it a mini trinket. I pop mine every 2 minutes which ups my dps by a tonne. UD > Orc for pvp for sure.

Re: Orc/Undead dilemma.
As an undead, I still think that people overrate Will of the Forsaken. Yes, it makes chain-fearing impossible, but since we have the 10-5-2.5 DR rule it's no longer a huge issue like it was in BGs before Burning Crusader.
I admit though that a Undead SL/SL Warlock is almost impossible to CC unless it is physical. Besides Will of the Forsaken the racials are super weak. I still think that *all* resistance racials should scale and Underwater Breathing is worth 0 to Warlocks. Cannibalize is quite nice for farming and occationally in Arena (Bandage cooldown and eat some dead player). I wonder why few people use their racials. I had to convince my raiding troll friends to use Bezerker macros, same with Orc players. They waste some ability and therefore DPS. |

Re: Orc/Undead dilemma.
Racials. They aren't game breaking or game making.
None of them are imbalanced at this stage. What's more important is how you use them, whatever they are. If I'm honest I find it a bit funny that people only ever really talk in terms of Orc or Undead when trying to chose a horde warlock. Having more magic resistance with master demonologist with felpup out than any other race with the same set up or being able to silence casters or expose stealthers with arcane torrent suits me. They're not the only means to win a match but they are sometimes helpful. I acknowledge that racials are the icing / frosting on the cake. If there was one clear superior race / racial there would be no diversity. I could at this point make a satirical joke about a certain WWII despot playing an undead rogue in a Mr T / Shatner style WoW commercial but that might be in bad taste, but you see my point. I wouldn't say Vaell's are "better" than other racials, but I would certainly say that the racials on my 70 UD lock are no better either. I will say that my Blood Elf is more fun to play and have plenty more success in PvP than I ever did with my UD but I think that's just a personal thing really. |

The orc racial is clearly superior in pve, whereas the undead racial is really nice to have on some encounters and especially for leveling as you can use cannibalize.

All have their advantages and disadvantages. Pick the one that looks the best to YOU (and you only). Trust me, it sucks to roll the 'best class/race combo' only to hate the way your toon looks/sounds, etc.

Re: Orc/Undead dilemma.
Thank you for your advice, everyone. I've made my decision. I'm going with the one I like best by looking at the appearance, my intimidating new Orc. I hate the shredded clothing on undead characters. Vaell's post really made me think about the variety of situations I might be in, as did Gritz'. There can be no best race if you look at it this way. Some posts didn't help at all, I wanted to know why a certain race could be better at something (back it up with info). I'm also picking my Orc for PvP to spread my chances of having a use for the racials. Where Undead have one main and one minor PvP-use racial, Orcs have three.
Thank you for your time, everyone! Last edited by TheAkrab; July 28, 2008 at 08:12 PM. |
