Defense vs Offense in AV

I hate defense in AV, only time I do it is when I get sent back to the cave or join them late games. Even then I will try to ride North, some people say defense causes the long turtle games. What do you guys think?

in my opinion offence is the best defence. take an example of an ab game(horde side):



i would instruct the team to take lm-gm-bs

once they are captured, the full horde team (yes all 15 of em!) would storm st. ganking the alliance and capturing st. and their graveyard would be guraded so no one can escape. it is a fairly good tactic which made us win lots of times. we even won 2000-0 once

btw: im talking about ab so i could be wrong wether the same applies in av. i never go there and i dont even know why people actually enter av(appart from the honour grinding)

I'm an alliance character and i've noticed horde like to do that tactic alot in AB... is that really what you guys do all the time?

Yeah, here are my AB and AV macros, for anyone that is interested (this is from a Horde PoV, but can probably be changed easily for Alliance):

AB:

/bg 1 LM, 2 BS, 3 Mine. call out incs, and push ST after 300 point lead.

(it's assumed that someone from 1 of the three groups will grab the farm)

AV:

/BG 1-4 = Under Bridge to AS -> N/S Bunkers -> Vann
/BG 5 = SH till cap -> Vann
/BG 6 = IW till cap -> Vann
/BG 7-8 = Bal -> recap TP/IB -> Drek's room
/BG 11 minute game, 300-600 Honor

I consider it a huge success if >50% of the people pay attention; and if I'm in group 1-4 I'll usually suicide myself up at AS, then go help recap IB/TP (which is the key to a horde win).

Defence in AV (or lack thereof) is normally why the Alliance lose in cyclone. They don't defend SH, or Balinda, or even DB so the horde zerg straight through and even a smattering of Horde defence at IB/TP stall the offence long enough for Van to get hosed....

Its not usually so cut and dried but the defence definately makes a difference (and this is with 4 toons at AV exalted lol) unless you have such an awesome offence that you can zerg into FW GY > Base > Relief Hut in such a short period of time that it wins the game simply through sheer speed.

Tricky to say I guess....we get a lot of Horde premades who just wall off the whole BG from Glav across to IB GY and of course at that point with the terrain filtering the alliance through one bottleneck there's not a lot you can do.....if I were pushed I would say that with the Horde terrain advantage its needed less for them and more for alliance.

Best tactics I've seen is mostly offensive. Have 1-4 rush RH, 5-6 kill whateverhisnameis, 7-8 cap and hold towers. If you die, defend. That generally makes for a good offensive push, with enough D to disrupt the horde a bit, and a win as long as noone caps FWG.

I will say that I've gotten a LOT of honor off a good turtle. You get a lot more kills, and a group of 5 or so can really hold back an offense.

Most premades use Preform enabler (similar to the old stinkyqueue) to get into the same BG without be classified as a 'premade' by the queuing system.

No, if only that WAS the case we wouldn't get our bottom's spanked quite so often. I have no problem with an even match but a PuG vs a Premade?

We've won a couple admitededly but they were rather fail premades
