Why AV can be (at times) better than Arena ever will be

Ya, mostly cause I'm a scrub but with 32K HK I have had more fun and memorable moments in AV than I ever have in Arena. Am I crazy? But I think that AV can provide the very best WoW PvP experience under the right conditions (and the worst too of course). For the sake of this discussion we'll set aside the "BG's are not real PvP debate"...the question is what provides the most fun factor?

Tell me does Arena:

1. Have an Ice Lord to pwn Ally face and cause mass QQ's as he marches through the stalemate carrying you to the win ?

2. Have choke points where SoC can blow up multitudes of enemies attempting to storm the gates of your Keep? Screen shots of 20+ players getting hit with 1-2k damage are priceless and so full of Warlock win .

3. Let you set up a well geared Warrior for getting 2-shot? IE: Nothing beats Drek 2-shotting some Warrior who thinks he's bad-*** while you fear his healer... How else can we 2 shot a Warrior? I think its a good to get a little payback ...And when you bros pull off a come from behind win cause you've been wiping Ally countless times on Drek...O how the QQ's must flow.

4. Let you defend Towers/Bunkers in savage pitched brawls with new mates that just want to win as bad as you do? No stress, just pure competitive spirit?

5. Let you rescue your undergeared bros from the clutches of evile Warriors and Rogues that wanna pwn face...We all can relate to the S4 geared Warr/Rogue tearing through AV with a pocket healer...getting your bros to organize a little beat-down is not a bad thing.

I guess i burned out on Arena S3 from all the 2000+ rated players selling Arena Points making it miserable to up your rating while gearing up. When AV comes together you can live the fantasy of repelling the enemy at the gates in a pure, unadulterated, fun way with many paths to enjoyment. Arena is less pure fun and more work imo. Worst case scenario in AV, you rezz at the graveyard...in Arena, another week or more may go by before you reach some nebulous rating or points goal that is less fun in the long run. This game is supposed to be fun.

Maybe we can make this a "Best story for AV thread". I'm sure there are plenty out there...Seriously can best story from Arena imaginable remotely compare to AV just due to the scale of the drama and the added component of an interesting map? C'mon, thwapping people in the face with a snowball and off the Ally bridge to their deaths??? Seriously full of WIN.

AV FOREVER

Yes, it's great fun for the first 300 games, but then it starts to get old.

What Gritz said

When you have four toons, or possibly more with Exalted Rep for Stormpike, it gets a bit old and seems to be less fun than it used to.

AV FOREVER
Can't really comment on arena, but AV I really enjoy, despite playing many matches in the last few months. BTW I find it more entertaining in the late evening, when kids of both factions are in bed. Chat is funnier with adults around and the whole approch seems to be more relaxed. This coming from an old fart obviously .

Most memorable game so far was -- a turtle! We were around 200 points behind for most of the match, towers gone, big defense zerg. The typical comments about "stupid this & that, this is a loss, l2p " (usually rarer at night) were getting annoying to the point that at around 150 to 80 some people apparently woke up and decided to act. The points differential *slowly* got less. But with something like 10 points left vs. 25 it looked like "game over". Until we got both mines -- and won by about 5 to 0 .

Certainly not a strategical masterpiece or efficient honour farming in any way -- but so much fun.

Re: Why AV can be (at times) better than Arena ever will be

I slightly miss the old AV, even though it was miserable for a poor under-geared rogue like me. The mages blinking in, aoe-ing like crazy, iceblocking and blinking out xD.

The push, and the get pushed.

Of course the new version is MUCH better if you want honor or marks, but i dont want that as much anymore, all i want is MORE HK's!!!!!!!!! So im generally at SH/IW defending and trying to get as many HK's and damage done as possible :D. I would love to try out SoC in the oldschool AV's. I think you'd be able to do some rediculous damage *drool*

on topic however.
I like arena more, since its more of a fair game (unless you play weird combos that have no possible way of success) in AV you can get zerged 5 vs 1 and you cant do crap, how fun is it then? Or when a few rogues camp the road, and you cant even dot one up before you'r dead, and this happens all the time for 15 minutes.

In arena it's a bit more skill, even though arena setup > skill.

*Edit* My favorite AV:
It was the PTR, a bit more than one year ago, (the s3 PTR i think(the ptr before season 3 that is))Running with my warlock with oh so imba gear :P having a clue about how to play, as a differance from everyone else :P. Turtle it was, and win on damage i did, I did my SoC duty quite well, as well as standing below the road dotting everyone, fearing and SoC'ing some more :P.

We lost, but i got about 100 HK's :P

Ah, I had a similar turtle situation and the final result was well....a picture is sometimes indeed worth a thousand words:

Re: Why AV can be (at times) better than Arena ever will be

Well I was round a friend's house and we got bored of the whole rush to drek -> kill -> repeat thing.

So we decided to piss people off and take the IB GY in every AV. If we got lucky the horde would spawn back at their own base and then we would just have a killing spree while the rest of the alliance tried to figure out who took the GY

I'm in the Blackout battlegroup. It'sabout 50/50 win or lose an AV but I get more honor by forcing horde to back up on us :P more seeds = more hks!
