Will my 2v2 survive higher and more skilled brackets?

Hey there everyone, Just wondering if some of you guys could give me some 2v2 tips. I'm currently 2v2ing with my friend (shadowpriest) and both of us are 3/5 s4 and full guardian. Hit 1700 last week and im scared we may hit a wall soon which i hope not becuase we have a great.... synergy (lol @ synergy).
  • We basically cc healer and dot dpser /nuke him when he's around 20%) which works fine (We have our silences and fears coordinated as well). Often times I find myself having to choose between getting more another fear off on a healer or tryin to dps down the tank through his heals. I've gotten away with nuking the dpser even through heals when he's low on health, but i'm wondering if this is a viable method in the higher brackets??
  • I was looking for some advice regarding rogue teams because ive noticed that even horribly geared rogues with 'decent skill' totally destroy us. (i can only ever get like 1 fear off)
  • I guess i should also put down some of my stats in case...
496 res
almost 1.3k spell damage
13.1 k health
27/34 (sl/sl- damage version)
OH, one more question... is this team op? because one of my 'friends' refuses to bg or arena with me ever since i hit 1700... apparently I've become a "cheater".

Thanks to anybody who read through all of this. ANY suggestions is appreciated as far as this team goes as well (different strats, etc...)

You're just not going to beat Rogue teams with equal gear/skill, that's probably the biggest problem with Warlock/Shadow Priest.

Re: Will my 2v2 survive higher and more skilled brackets?

Is there anything i can at least try though. Maybe by doing unorthodox to surprise them? If i could find a way to beat them even 50% of the time, i know the 2v2 rating would jump way up .

btw, i've looked through all the 'how to kill a rogue' stuff multiple times. I'm looking more for arena specific tips. I actually read in one of those that a spellstone will remove poisons, Is that really true?

thanks again, and anything related to my first post is still greatly appreciated

Full DoTs on both the Rogue + his partner, Fear liberally, and hope something dies :P

Spellstone doesn't remove poisons. Most of the "how to kill a Rogue" topics here are really bad.

Re: Will my 2v2 survive higher and more skilled brackets?

basically against a rogue / Disc priest its almost always auto-lose, its just because your main damage is from DOTs and with out UA the disc priest will just dispel them off, not to mention the rogue can COS and just wipe himself clean, coupled with a few fast heals from the priest and you're pretty much back where you started, with less mana.

Anyway, from experience (although we're in the same bracker 1700ish, and I'm UA and I run with my brother who is a SPriest) there are a few things we do that you might help.

If the rogue goes on you:
* Your SPriest will be your saving grace, he needs to keep shield up on you, and drop Prayer of Mending and Renews on you (Yes he has to shift out)
* Since you're SL/SL you can probably out last the Rogue and his cooldowns so your best bet is Drain Mana and Manaburn the priest.
* try to get a fear out to get some breathing room, in dire emergency your priest should run in and psychic scream the rogue off you, or trinket and deathcoil then fear.

If the Rogue is on your SPriest:
* Tell him to run and LOS the other priest so the rogue gets no heals and is forced to COS from your dots
* Fear the Rogue off your Priest to give him breathing space, then Fear the opposing priest when he comes close, if they both come close together, your priest should use his Psychic Scream.
* He has to shift out again for PoM and Shields and Renews to survive the rogue onslaught
* Searing Pain is your friend! When you see your priest can take the rogues damage and the opposing priest is feared, hit the rogue with searing pain as many times as you can to drop his health fast! His priest will have to run in LOS and try to heal him, that's when you drop silence then spell lock then fear, and kill off that rogue!

In General:
* Try to force the Rogue to CoS as soon as you can, then thats when you lay on the hurt (basically when your SPriest uses his cooldowns, full DOTs and other stuff)
* Save silence then spell lock on the priest for when the Rogue is about to die
* Keep felhunter on the opposing priest so he can't drink and mana up
* you basically have won if the opposing priest's mana is drained faster than your priest's mana :D
* bounce fears between the priest and rogue, and when they've used their trinkets and Will of the Forsaken (if undead), focus on the rogue for fears and drain the opposing priest.

LOL! I might just be repeating some stuff you've already read, but I hope what I put helps! :D And yeah it may sound simple, but really with all the pillar humping and bridge jumping and altar humping its hard to get fears and drains and stuff on. :( practice and we'll get there :P you and me both! haha

PS. I hate rogues :(

Smile Re: Will my 2v2 survive higher and more skilled brackets?

Wow, thats some great stuff there Kyriel. Alot of great suggestions there... especially using line of sight to stop the heals is a great suggestion. We usually stayed away from manaburning/draining in the lower ratings because we were able to kill teams pretty (we actually called ourselves the 2 minute team) but as games get longer it will prove to be necessary. I'm sure that with the amount of coordination we already have this will be a great way to even the playing field. Just gotta wait till my partner comes back from vacation . Luckily i know him in real life so i'll be sure to email this to him.

** i know we aren't supposed to talk about specs in this area of the forums, but i can only feel its appropriate because it relates to my direct problem with rogues.**

I'm also going to try out a variation of sl/sl i made (28/33) with no points in shadowmastery and instead filling out 5/5 fel concentration so i can live longer against rogues. I had to take one point out of demonic knowledge from the demon tree, but since my damage is more than adequate, i think it'll be ok.

Thanks for spending the time to write all of that as well as i know it may have taken more than a few minutes

See you at 2k!

Another thing i would add is how much CoEx helps in 2v2 higher up. MAke sure that is in your build. Once you fear the priest away CoEx his *** cus guess what..... he can't get rid of it. It won't help much with rogues cus of poisons and deadly throw (op on casters) make sure your spriest doesnt just run around tho as i see most of them do. It is virtually impossile to kite a rogue so just have him mindflay it. Also he can try and outheal the rogue damage while you dps which can work when the rogue gets low. GL and i hope rogues get nerfed soon (cheatdeath nerf was bs)

Re: Will my 2v2 survive higher and more skilled brackets?

Wow, another great suggestion. Between losing the rogue and a coe on the priest after his fear, this combo mite actually stand a chance.

Thanks!

Oh and btw, I also made my own, 'uh oh rogue macro' (demon armor, fel dom., summon voidwalker, sacrifice voidwalker/ shift modifier : soul link). So if i can get them to somehow not kick through the bubble, all the damage will be absorbed so theres no pushback on my casts.
