Strand of the Ancients

Strand of the Ancients

The Strand of the Ancients is a battleground located off the southern coast of the Dragonblight being introduced in Wrath of the Lich King. This battleground consists of 3 walls which have to be destroyed to continue, capture points and a graveyard after each wall. The overall goal is to be the first team to get through the last wall.

The players will either have to attack, or defend. Attackers will start on 2 boats (1 for Alliance, and 1 for Horde). All attackers will begin the fight in the boats which will approach the beach. The defenders will start the fight on the beach.

When the battleground starts one faction will be assigned to be the attacking team and the other will be assigned to be the defending team. The attacking team lands on the Island at the start of the battleground and will use siege weapons to break through the Island's walls and capture the city point by point gaining access to new siege weapons along the way. At some point the factions will switch, so the attacking team will become the defending team and vice versa. It is described as a "D-day invasion scenario".

Players must be at least level 71 to be eligible to join the Strand of the Ancients Battleground, although by speaking to the battlemaster you can become neutral with the Valiance Expedition. Brackets are 71-79 and 80. Players must interact with a battlemaster to join Strand of the Ancients. Battlemasters are located in all capitals back in Azeroth, Shattrath City and Dalaran in Northrend's Crystalsong Forest.

Basic Rules
  • Players start on a ship for the first minute, isolated from the rest of the battleground (similar to other battlegrounds).
  • Horde and Alliance teams of up to 10/15 players compete to destroy the 3 walls and make their way to the end of the battleground.
  • First faction to reach the end wins.
NB: Note that there are a total of 5 walls. 2 at the Horde side, 2 at the Alliance side and 1 to block the way to the end for both factions.
  • It is possible that factions gain bonus Honor for each destroyed wall.
  • There are Siege weapons which will help you to destroy the walls, buildings and enemy players.

Siege Vehicles

The Demolisher
  • The Demolisher has both short and long range attacks
  • It is meant to bombard players and buildings from a long distance, it's also equipped with a ram to siege buildings.
  • It can hold up to 3 passengers, passengers are exposed and can be targeted individually. However, players can cast while the vehicle is moving if they're in it.
Forsaken Catapult
  • The catapult is faster than the demolisher but its range is slightly lower.
  • It does slightly less damage.
  • It cannot hold any pessenger.
The Siege Engine
  • This is the siege weapon with the longest range.
  • The gunner is sitting in the turrent and has full control of the turret.
  • The driver is only moving the vehicle.
  • The passengers in this vehicle are fully protected but can't shoot other enemies.
  • It's also got a very powerful ramming attack
Flying machine
  • Flying Machines can bomb enemies, they're swift but very vulnerable to anti-air attacks.
Goblin Shredder
  • The shredder is an anti-air vehicle.
  • It will use anti-air rockets, they're long range homing missiles.
  • This is a personal armor suit, if the vehicle is destroyed the player just jumps out and keep fighting on his own.
  • You can use your sawblade as close range melee attacks.
  • The shredder can jump into the air just like rocket boots for players. This can also be used to jump over walls.
  • The shredder is very vulnerable to siege damage.

Re: Strand of the Ancients

I completed my first battle yesterday. We (Ally) lost, but it was great fun. With the siege weapons, attacker/defender lay-out, and single goal, it is something new. However, it's going to require a bit more teamwork and strategy, while offering, I hope, more than one winning approach. I look forward to hearing what experiences others have had.
