SILENCE - what do I do?
Is there any way to counter this? At all? I'm already sick of DKs and Mages silencing me, and that you Blizz for nuking the spellstone that helped get out of that. I need to know what to do once I've been silenced (other then pet attack or wand) to not die a quick death. Thanks in advance. |

Re: SILENCE - what do I do?
Silence the DK right back. His abilities get locked out by silences for whatever reason, I bug reported this although it might be intentional. Can't hit any strikes or deathcoil that I've seen when silenced. Strangulate is a 2 minute cooldown and requires a rune and mind freeze is a 10 second cooldown that requires runic power. Mind freeze will get nerfed, that I have no doubt of. DK is my main and I count on it getting a nerf. For the moment against DKs I suggest just taking the death, a well played DK will use mind freeze, chains of ice, strangulate, mind freeze combo which if timed right only allows you 2 seconds of casting time over the course of 14 seconds and practically roots you in place. If you want to have a fighting chance, I suggest using felhunter silence on him after strangulate to prevent the impending mindfreeze for a few seconds. DK versus clothies and debatably anything with a mana bar is really overpowered and a lot of it has to do with mind freeze in my opinion. No one spell that is that easily maintained should be able to keep a person silenced 40% of the time, although blizz let rogues get away with stunlocking 100-0 for a long time so who knows. Chains of ice might get some diminishing returns applied. Last edited by Rleab; November 25, 2008 at 10:22 AM.. |

Re: SILENCE - what do I do?
Don't forget that with frost talents mind freeze can actually be made to have no cost. That's right, *zero* runic power. Frost is hardly the most popular pvp spec (insofar as the death knight has a popular spec for any one role) but still. The DK will undoubtedly get the nerf sooner or later, and I certainly hope that mind freeze will be on the hit list. Although, as you point out...blizzard has been less than kind to spellcasters in pvp in the past.

Re: SILENCE - what do I do?
Best bet is you have to take down a DK hard and fast... which can be a trick for a lock because of all the silencing they have and the small window of opportunity, if you run aff you might be lucky cause more likely then not you'll have your felhound out, i run destro so i have my imp out. On a non-lock note an arcane mage might be able to take down a DK quick enough with PoM kill macro and arcane barrage and if you're lucky missile barrage procing. |

Re: SILENCE - what do I do?
Felhunter with a macro'd self devour is your best friend against silences. And mage roots, and shammy shocks, and paly seals...and so on. If you're pvping your hunter should be out 99% of the time. |

Re: SILENCE - what do I do?
Dispelling short silence makes sense, dispelling longer ones not at all, don't waste a devour CD for 1 sec of silence. If you are *really* desperate you might try to wand your enemy. In 1vs1 finals in Arena against mages you might get the edge if you counter the counterspell with your wand. Some people prefer quick wands for this reason, the damage is suprisingly high (up to 500 was normal for me at 70). It's better than NO damage at least. If the opponent runs out of sight because of wanding you can use the silenced seconds to bandage yourself or even drink. |
