Let me state up front that I don't really have any ranked arena experience post-80. No doubt some my stop reading the nub's words right now!  Most of my recent experience comes from duelling, BGs, world PvP and practice arena matches. Now that I'm at around 900 resilience with 22k hp, I don't usually find myself easy candy for rogues or most melee for that matter. Even if they beat me they work for it.51/17/0 with those majors. Shadowflame (70% slow!?) glyph has come in handy more times than I can count against melee. Dots up with drain life, blast that on melee at the end of drain life if they're in range by then, port (or run) away, watch them crawl towards you while you reapply dots and watch them die. Unless they are very lucky with crits I can usually survive through a full rogue stun lock long enough to use howl of terror, health stone, maybe DC or port and put some distance on him and come out with well over 50% of my health. I do my best not to use my trinket in the first volley with a rogue at all. If I can't survive the initial rush I probably won't be able to beat him anyway, and if I do survive I'll need everything I've got. I'm only just starting arena this week, but duelling and in BGs and world PvP I do rather well. If I can get up my three dots + haunt and drain life, I can eat through a lot of hit points rather quickly. And, let me tell you, people are not used to playing against a decent afflock right now. Many surprised faces in front of Orgrimmar.  Affliction might not have burst but it has many tools to mitigate, confuse and aggravate an opponent. And the upcoming changes to resilience in 3.2 are going to do nothing but help improve the chances of someone running with an affliction pvp spec. And before any of you say anything: yes I'm aware that a ranked 2v2 or 3v3 or 5v5 match is a lot different than melting faces in BGs. Just out of curiousity, why aren't there 1 v 1 ranked matches? Is it because healers by themselves are basically screwed or stalemated until they run oom? Also, I think I'll be running with a holy pally for a bit, is that a decent combination? I've been told it should be. Sorry for the long, presumptuous post!

I guess i'll share my 2 cent on this. Personally, my pvp spec/glyph are this Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft Nice damage and nice surviability. If you want, you can switch a major glyph to put the Glyph of Soul Link for another 5% damage reduction. Shadowfury - Immolate - Conflagrate - Incinerate - Chaos Bolt - ShadowBurn as rotation. |
