Also, spell penetration is important. It's more important than pure damage until ~75 at least to counter MotW, 130 for SR Aura and Shadow Prot, and 140 for Mages with Mage Armor up, if I recall correctly. It also functions similar to spell damage once you have negated your target's resistances. The cloak enchant and 2 Stormy Sky Sapphire will get you 75, and the offhand and wand will get you above 100.

Resilience (800) > Stam (>20k HP) > Hit (6%) > Spell Pen (75-140) > Spellpower/Haste (up to you) > Crit

Some Warlocks like to gem up their Haste as high as possible before worrying about Spellpower. It really depends on your personal playstyle and taste. Haste can definitely help landing Fears. Some people like to gear for lots and lots of Stamina, but doing so will limit your offensive capability. I personally just go for a balance of damage, res, and stamina with multi-colored gems. If you look at my armory I run slightly below 800 resilience, but I have reasonable spell damage at the same time.

The biggest problem gearing up for PvP is your survivability. If you don't have ~800 resilience, you need more resilience. If you don't have the 4-piece set bonus, you need the 4-piece set bonus. Savage gear has high levels of resilience and fills up those set slots. It's okay to sacrifice some offensive power when you won't live long enough to enjoy that power. The Deadly items have a decent amount of offensive stats on them, too. I sit at about 50-100 unbuffed spellpower above my 10-man PvE gear when I'm wearing my PvP set with Battlemaster's, and about 20 spellpower lower with Fel Armor up (which doesn't matter in Arenas because Demon Armor is better in most situations).

A stun reduction meta is definitely a good idea, since you can dispel most casted CCs off yourself but not physical stuns, but make sure you put Tuskarr's Vitality on your boots for the run speed if you feel like that factors into your play.

Very good info here. My question is about hit. How do I get my hit up? With all my pvp gear on my hit is at 0. Do I gem hit or get enchants? My resilience is over 800, stam is almost 20k (unbuffed), spell pen 0. This will be the first time that I step into arena with this toon but want to make sure I have it somewhat right before I do.

I think most people tend to use the Pendant of Ascendancy with hit and/or the Cloak of Ascendancy with hit instead of gemming/enchanting for hit. Some people use the Icewalker enchant on their boots as well for +12 hit and +12 critical strike.

Also you can pick up the Deadly Gladiator's Band of Ascendancy for honor now.

I'm at about 3.5% hit right now, could be higher for sure. I'm trying out itemizing for crit to start out this season to see how it goes. So far I'm criting people more often than I expected. In a few weeks I'll try regeming for haste to see how that goes.

You can find a lot of PvP gear thru Wintergrasp Marks. Head, boots, robe all have a +hit and +haste version. There are trinks also available via honor, so getting hit capped isnt as hard as it seems.

You want to try to gem for Resiliance and Spell power imo. We want our dots to tick hard (Corruption critting for 3K+) and for a healer to be able to keep us up against the initial burst most classes have. With UA and full dots on each target Affliction locks are able to put a lot of pressure on multiple targets. And you'd be surprised how many times people try to dispell!

Meta Gem should def. be stun reduction. Rogues and Ret Pallies hurt. I've been using 32 Stam, but I'm starting to think 25 spell power + 10% stun reduction will be better in the long run.

The fear nerf def sucks. But I think we can live thru it, just have to be faster and kite better (demonic portal should almost be used every cooldown to confuse people and clear snare affects).

Use the Felhunter Spelll lock manually! It literally wins matches against a healer w/ low health.

I read a lot of things about how Affliction was dead in arena (2's), but I still think resto shammy/affliction lock can work. We still havnt figured out Mage/Rogue tho...

Check Wintergrasp Vendor for PvP +hit gear.

Affliction can no longer keep multi-target pressure up because of the Fear nerf, and single target DPS is terrible when you aren't churning Shadow Bolts out because of resilience. I have over 2k UNBUFFED spellpower in PvP gear (almost 2.4k with Fel Armor), and I can't kill someone with a full DoT rotation while his partner is in a full duration Fear. In fact, I can't even get him to execute range.

Spellpower/Stun reduction is a better choice for your meta gem slot to me, you don't really need more than 21 or 22k health to survive an initial burst. For other gem slots, just activate the socket bonus with a multi-colored gem with resilience or 16 resilience:
Yellow - Mystic Autumn's Glow (16 Resil) OR Kharmaa's Grace (20 Resil, unique) OR Steady Forest Emerald (Resil/Stam)
Red - Durable Monarch Topaz (SP/Resil) OR Runed Scarlet Ruby (19SP)
Blue - Steady Forest Emerald

You want ~800 resilience and >20k health as a baseline while getting as much spellpower as you can. My stats right now are somewhere in the ballpark of 730 or 830 resil depending on trinkets (I swap BM and Disks depending on the comp) and 21.6 or 21.7k health with the aforementioned spellpower.

3.1 Re: PVP Stats and Gems

(I'll preface all of this by saying that I don't play Arena. I'm strictly a fan of battleground or wintergrasp PvP. Prior to 3.0, I played a *lot* of BGs, then stopped until dual-spec hit when I could dedicate a spec to PvP/quest/farming.)

The starter set of crafted blues (Savage) along with the resilience ring, the resilience cloak, the resilience necklace (all crafted items) will get you to about 500 resilience out of the gate. But you'll only have about 16-17k health at the start (give or take), so you'll need to stay out of melee range in big battles. The cost for a starter set of gear is in the 200-500g range. Which is not terribly expensive for something that will let you live longer and get started on earning the purples.

Cloak enchant should almost always be +35 spell pen. It's about the only slot that can be enchanted with +spell pen, so it makes sense to do it there.

Boot enchant - there's a +15 stamina and 8% run speed increase available in Wrath. I find this a better choice then trying to use my meta gem slot to boost run speed. I agree with others that a stun reduction meta gem is more important.

The shoulder and head enchants can be purchased in Wintergrasp for Stone Keeper's Shards. It takes 40 for the head enchant and 30 for the shoulder enchant. Those are important sources of resilience, even on PvP blues.

I agree that 800 resilience is a good goal. It will take you a few weeks, however, to get there. You'll need to work on earning enough honor to buy the 5 piece Hateful Gladiator's set pieces. The 2 pc bonus gives you +50 resilience and the 4 pc bonus cuts the cast time of Fear by 0.2 sec.

Big sources of resilience are Hateful Gladiator's Band of Dominance ring, Medallion of the Alliance trinket (also breaks CC, 2 min cooldown), and Flow of Knowledge trinket. Those 3 pieces will easily get you to 700 resilience, which is within spitting distance of 800.

For WG marks, I recommend using them on the Flow of Knowledge trinket, the PvP cloth boots (Titan-Forged) along with either spending honor on a PvP waist or WG marks on a PvP waist.

The one thing I have not been able to find yet are wands, off-hands, or weapons that are purchaseable without stepping foot in an arena. So I'm still hanging out at 800 resilience, 65 spell pen, and only 18.3k health. But I still have (2) blue cloth pieces to replace along with the cloak and neck and my weapon slots.

The new WG trinkets are awesome, whether you're gearing up or just balancing stats. I highly recommend them.

I'm a pure PVE player on a PVP server all because of friends!
Due to the children's week event I was forced to enter some BG's and ended up quite like the format...

I'm also thinking on dual specc to enter BG's!
This thread is very usefull concerning best stats/gems/enchants to use on gear.

Now to finish, what about some directions on PVP specs?

To prevent off topic posts in this thread, there is a section of the forums HERE that discusses PVP specs.
