Shadow priest agony
Ok so tonight I was in outland questing. And in the distance I see none other than a human shadow priest the same level as me fighting mobs. Now i have the jump on her, i have my felguard out and i send him in to attack, then i try to death coil her but it says she's immune. i notice she has something called 'fear ward' on? and power shield or something i duno. anyway, before i know it she's feared ME and dotted me! in short, she basically handed my *** to me without even breaking a sweat. she totally beat me at my own game. which is so totally humiliating words cannot describe .i cannot help but think 1. I am either shit at this game. I'm pretty sure i'm not as i've wiped out two higher level pallys than me and then a warrior in a row without going below half health. or 2. i cannot help but feel shadow priests are the bane of the warlock? i'm guessing it's probably the first one. ![]() could any of you guys lend me a hand advice wise? it's so embarrassing to have that happen to me. it's basically like a fire station getting burned down. is there anything i could do to not let this happen again? obviously getting to 60 might help with being to respec and get the top end spells (although i highly doubt demon form would do any good). please guys, give me some advice. anything would be great. my usual tactics are felguard stun > death coil (which gives the three seconds for me to) > fear > dot > re-fear > /lol > drain whatever > dot/fear. it felt totally powerless against this player though as none of this worked

Re: Shadow priest agony
Well yes, priests do have Fear Ward, and Power word: Shield, the latter which absorbs damage. One thing I have noticed, is that you cant mess with shadow priests; when left to their own mettle, they can pack a punch. Some random tips I've picked up:

Re: Shadow priest agony
Dont forget that a shadow priest in shadow form is ver sdesilient to shadow damage. Use your fire damage to top. Immolate, incinerate spam.

Re: Shadow priest agony
yep ALWAY double fear at beginning..1st one will get rid of fear ward..and the nxt fear straight after will fear them..thn if your haunt/sl its a pretty easy fight...fully dot up (always have shadow ward on)..run in to close range and thn howl of terror, use death coil if needed, and also spell lock their mind blast....you have so much cc againt them it shouldnt be a problem.... if you are not haunt/sl..use felguard to intercept instead of instant aoe fear....gg =)......its if you let them start the fight..they will destroy you...many people forget they do do soem sick damage....but with all your cc..shadow ward and getting fear off ASAP so your in control...you should never have a problem....goes for most classes.....unless...hmmm...dk....fury warr....feral druid...rogue....xD |

Re: Shadow priest agony
Yeah, good advice here… indeed this is the way to go. The biggest flaw in the OP strategy is that you just never-ever use DC right after or during the felguard stun. That’s just plain stupid, no offence. During the felguard stun you load immolate and immediately a fear, hopefully you’ve already put up shadow ward before your felguard intercepted. Being demo, make sure you hit demonic empowerment on the felguard, this way the priest cannot fear it. You should put and keep CoT on the priest from the very beginig, this will give you ample time to fear him if you see him casting something important. Keep up Corr together with CoT and concentrate on incinerating the hell out of him, fire damage is your biggest friend. DC should be kept for the second part of the fight when you need to interrupt something important fast. Watch out for fear ward, do not waste your DC or your time casting fear while that is active, just spam incinerate with immolate on. Usually I use my DC when I trinket out the fear, in case I don’t feel secure that I can cast a fear in time. After DC, ofc follow up with fear. If you are demo, usually you will be able to predict the incoming fear from the priest, cuz he will move close to you so he can fear you and your felguard at the same time, this is what any lock with iHoT will do too. It is important to use your demonic empowerment, because in your case the felguard is a major source of dps, so you must avoid him being feared. |

Re: Shadow priest agony
Agreed with above posts. Try Shadow Ward first, then Felguard stun, immolate, fear. Soul Fire.... and keeping distance nuke the spriest to the GY |

Re: Shadow priest agony
There's some pretty strange advice going on here, firstly, @McColgan, if he's got a felguard, then he's not going to have Haunt or iHoT, so that tac is out the window. Socondly, Save Demonic empowerment UNTIL the SPriest uses their fear as this will waste it for them. Shadow Ward is great and should always be kept up against preists and other locks, I personally save the charge stun until they start casting a spell, when you engage, simply start dotting, if they start casting then charge, immo and fear, always be running away. always try to interrupt their casts, especially their heals. Pet control is important, timing the 30 seconds between charge and bringing the pet 8yrds away is an essential skill for demo lock pvp. Remember, fear will break MUCH quicker than before, if you've got dots on then only use fear to interrupt casting and get a cast off of your own. Finally remember that with all the pet survival talents you have invested to get the FG, it is fully 33% of your game, dont be afraid to run out of casting range, your dots will still be ticking and your fg still cleaving. if they start healing use the time to LT and bandage. you can always use pet follow and then pet attack as an interrupt. I know the feeling. Been there at times with various classes and encounters. Still feel that way at times. Don't get discouraged. Some great tips above. Bottom line for me is this. (1) Know your opponent and (2) practice. You've got to get to a point where you know what your opponents strategies will be, can predict when they will use them, and can counter or defeat as a reflex. If you can, do some duels and talk with a local priest in your faction. When I used to run in a pvp guild (BGs only, way before arenas), we would always practice against each other. Still trying to find that now on my current server. Priest ability is called Psychic Scream, it's an AoE with 8yrd range. Can use racial or trinket to break. If you see a priest running at you, that is why. And they can pop it every 30 seconds. Someone else has already mentioned fear ward. Since it is tough to see if this is on, I think the advice to double fear above is great. One thought for discussion … I've never used felguard, but wouldn't felhunter be better? Reason I say that is Shadow Word Pain used to be a hard hitter. If felhunter eats that up, you'll be better off. Plus you can spell lock. Do you have points in Master Summoner? |

Always open up with fears. Even if they trinket out of it, they have blown a free trinket CD from the off. Considering you should (in my opinion) be destro and using felhunter. Rough them up with chaos bolts and dots, (stunning with shadowfury as it has a bad psychological effect), until they blow either fear or silence - either is good. Either can be easily countered with felhunters devour magic - Then quickly silence the Spriest. Now he has almost no cds, you have on shadowward, he is silenced and pretty usless now. Nuke the little warlock wannabe into the dirt
