Question for Destro PvP Locks
Hi Guys, Well Ive started PvPing a bit specced a cookie cutter Demo / Destro build deep into Destro until Chaos Bolt and SL on the Demo side..I used to be SL/SL and had no probs with this. My gear is mainly Savage + 2 Deadly pieces - I sit around 19% tt crit... My questions are 1. What is so great about Chaos Bolt??..At 2150 Spell power my Chaos Bolt hits for 3.5-4K and crits around 6K..on very very rare occasions it will crit for 7K in BG's...is this really something to get excited over given the average pvp player has 20k+ health?..by comparison my SB crits for 5K and hits for 3Kish normally..is this a spell penetration issue? 2. Also how do destro locks handle healer classes (mainly druids or pallys) that just flash heal / hot through our damage?..i have no idea how to beat that given the average healer can outheal the dps I put out...is this normal as destro? I find druids tend to circle around in the different forms..then heal and come back at you when you are low on mana and finish you off. Cheers S_W |

1) Chaos Bolt has a shorter cast time and hits harder then either Shadow Bolt or Incinerate, also Chaos Bolts pierces through some shields and the like. 2) We can CC & burst to compensate. Like CB>SP>ShadowFury (all hit almost simultaneously), then while stunned Immo>Conflag>DC>Incin>Fear>SoulFire>CB...this is a really powerful combo to do to anyone, and we have pets to modify that as needed. For example, if they haven't died by the end of that string for whatever reason you still have Silence+another Incin>Conflag>etc... Though you usually have to play things situationally, always throw burst and CC together (or back to back) to kill a healer. Now if I am trying to kill a person being healed by someone else, I usually have better luck with the Succubus CC'ing the healer as much as possible. Also take into consideration that this is all for solo PVP, if you are playing with a partner/team then you will have several other options/variables to keep in mind.

ya basically vs healers just keep them CC'd against anything else just keep distance. I use succubus and i often start wit seduce-SB-CB-shadowfury-immo-conflag-CB(if still alive, usually not) |

 I would suggest trying to throw a Searing Pain in between the CB and the Shadowfury, as the CB has a slow enough travel time to have all three of those hit nearly at the same time. Then after the Immolate you should cast Conflag and Incinerate before maybe using Fear or Seduce for another round of burst.

CB is so good because it cant be resisted by resil and shields. Put up immolate then CB, searing pain while the CB is traveling and conflag. All 3 hitting together is lethal. |

Either I am still just totally sucky, have crappy gear (1643 base spellpower in my pvp gear, not great) or the resto druid me and a holy priest were trying to take down in WSG yesterday was a total monster. Between a combination of shadowfury, immolate, chaos bolt then conflag + incinerates or fear, corruption, COT, immolate then chaos bolt + conflag he was healing everything we threw at him (granted, the priest wasn't doing a whole lot) even spell-locking didn't make a difference. Finally I just banished him until help arrived and he got steamrolled. Ugh. Most 1 on 1 if I have felhunter out (not improved succy specced so this is 99% of tthe time) I can get through the healers' heals (at least in BGs, just started arenas as this spec). But man, that druid fight was embarrasing. Chaos bolt is great against the priest shield. Love seeing that pop up when they have ~7k hp left and scoring a crit for the win. |

Now typically ill get atleast 1 crit in there, so if SF or CB crits, thats about 1/3-40% of their helth and the rest is easy. What ive tried to be doing lately is Shadowfury>immo>conflag>seduce(with glyph of succubus, gets rid of immo, but i still get backdraft)>then ill SF(makes it like a 2.3 second cast time which is sexy)>cb>shadowburn/incinerate/searingpain(whichever seems more appropriate) Hope this helps destro locks who are looking to just nuke someone 1v1. 1v2, almost same situation. just with this, you wont always have distance. in bg's i use nets alot(im a tailorer) so this helps on occasion..GOOD LUCK! lemme know if you got questions. |

Don't bother with healers, it's too much work :P I've gone back to destro now, after afflic for a while. While destro is fun, it's still not good enough imo. (Afflic is nerfed to the ground and now useless in pvp). You NEED cc at any cost (all melee with good gear will own you in seconds regardless of resilience..i got 800 and it buys me maybe .5 second when gutted to pieces. Our problem is that we have no freaking armor (who uses Demon armor? noone) Casters are owned by destro locks, or should be if you know your game. Palas are OP, DKs are OP. It's the eternal escape problem we have. THe portal is no save, as you need to PLAN it ahead. Death coil resists more than it hits, so its fairly useless. AS for chaos bolt, i only seem to use it on shielded targets (healers, mages). The rest is shadowfury, immolate + conflag, incinerate and glyphed shadowflame. And dont forget CoE. ANything you can do to slow them down. ONly problem is you most of the time will be slowed down as well, so you cant get away. I run with succubus for cc, but i find it breaks too easily and there is too much immunity in the game, trinkets etcetc.. Blizz is messing up pvp for sure, there is too much burst damage, and resilience isn't good enough, and everything can be countered, dispelled, trinket, immune, etc.etc.etc..

Seeing we cant just chain fear people to death im finding destro pvp very fun and suprisingly sucessful. i have 2x deadly 2x savage and one hateful but my chaos bolt still crits most for 8k+ depending on resi. Alos you need to get a cast sequesnce sorted for when your going to nuke if you havent already. i usually fear>immolate>chaos bolt> conflag>shadowburn.......and if that isnt enough( you dont get lucky with one of two crits) then jst pop a fear in between to line up some big nukes and prevent heals.. while im still missing the old haunt/sl chain fearing...its still really fun to now have people QQing about getting ownd by lock burst damage....and while i dont take arena seriously....doing rather well as destro and 2 x dps... Practice and have fun =) AND YES BLIZZ PLEASE FIX RESI!.....being 3-4 shotted by rogues when i have 22k hp and 800 resi AND 31% damage reduction is not fun neither fair Last edited by McColgan; April 28, 2009 at 05:49 AM.. |
