Re: How to build up Spell Penetration?
You're seeing extra misses against Rogues because of Heightened Senses, which cannot be bypassed with hit rating. Paladins have a similar talent. "Miss" comes from lacking hit rating or those talents (racials can be bypassed), and "resist" comes from lacking spell pen, such as a Priest with Shadow Protection up resisting Fear. Like everyone has said, 75 spell pen is the baseline you should have for PvP. |

Re: How to build up Spell Penetration?
Tetraz, the way to assess that is to look at how you cast spells. Assume a 45 second internal cooldown the static value of embroidery is approx calculated as 250 * (15 / (45 + 5 to proc)) = approx 75 sp For affliction, I'd say the embroidery isn't very good (lots of dots that don't proc). For destro, the embroidery might be better, but depends how well you can capitalise on the proc. After all, I doubt that you can stand and nuke very long. Also, when assessing the stats (75sp -vs- 35 spen) you need to consider other factors of pvp play. E.g. critical CC resist or critical moment that is independent of your proc e.g. the healer is 20% health and the nuke needs to hit now! As you can see, there is never a clear cut answer for pvp. Rather, you can state the values of each one and make an assessment. |

Re: How to build up Spell Penetration?
Well, you will want your 75 spell pen anyways, so you have to replace more spellpower gems with +9 +10 sp/spen gems. Basically to get 35 spell pen you need to replace 4 gems and therefore loose 40 spellpower. So the question is whether the proc is better than 40 sp. On average I would think the embroidery wins, but it depends on how much rng you want in your fights, since usually you won't be able to wait for your cloak enchant to proc.. If you still have to gem for resi or stamina you'll want the cloak enchant too

Re: How to build up Spell Penetration?
well i dunno.. i have a bit over 700 resi in my current gear, don't think i'll gem for it anymore, since my goal is 750-800. I am destro and in bgs with my pve cloak (with embrodier) i can dish out some nice damage during the proc, but still I think i'll go with spell pen, since the embrodier is a bit too random for me ^^ thx for help guys |

You really dont need spell pen above 40. If you ocassionaly need it liek against a tree or smth. You can alway cast CoE on it effectively insreasing your spell pen for this case. ANything else will be a loss os spell power or resilience. Min spell pen is 20 - thats easy enough to achieve. As a destro I dont see why wouldnt you use CoE anyways and as Affl why wouldnt you put points in suppression |

Hm, I didnt think of that - you are right about fear and banish. About dispelling COE - I dont know how you use it but I cast quite a lot - it costs nothing almost and lets say i cats a CB then right after COE so that the bolt lands after the curse - no way you can dispell that. if they are in melee range I dont even bother with curses. I more occupied castin Shadowflames SF and HOT. But good point - I will invest in sp pen for fears and banish |

Re: How to build up Spell Penetration?
To reach that number of spell power easy you will want: +35 spell pen to cloak. Deadly or Furious OH and Wand. One +20 spell pen gem. That should give you all the Spell pen you need.

Re: How to build up Spell Penetration?
I want a pony too. (While I'm wishing for things that are near impossible to get.) Actually, just from the +20 SP gem, the cloak enchant, and certain pieces of the PvP gear set, you can get up around 60-80 spell penetration. I might have also socketed one or two spell penetration gems, but I don't recall now. So, I redid some of my PvP gear tonight to get up to at least 80, up to 130 (I ended up at 115). (35) on the cloak enchant (40) from a pair of +20 Stormy Sky Sapphire gems (blue slot) (40) from (4) combination gems (Radiant, Mysterious, Tense) I also got my hit rating up to 86 (3.28%), which is slightly over the 3% that you need for level 80 players. I debated the epic +25 spell penetration gems, but didn't feel like chasing them down (the Stormy gems were only 15-20g at the HA). |
