You need spell pen to get through mage armor. If they aren't using mage armor, you should blow them up very quickly.

Make sure that all your combat spells are keybound. Hit 'v' to see the HP bar over their head and go into interface options to turn on the cast bar.

Re: Mages......w t f

What I have found that works for me is to immo then use shadowfury to stun them, give me enough time to get chaos bolt off followed by conflag, by then they are on the ropes and yoru for the taking, alot of times with a cbolt and conflag crit they are dead.....move to next target

Use CC. I like to run with the Succy. I have my seduce off of auto-cast and click on it in times of trouble so that I can focus on getting my bearing. Once seduce is in place you can death coil, immolate, conflagrate (get another stun). Sprinkle in a fear ASAP and CoT when appropriate. Nuke away w/CB or Incin.

I've actually had a little bit of success against mages lately...

After arcane was nerfed, mages is quite easy for me. Even with nerfed Nether Protection.

Personally I loathe those floating HP bars. Next, I would recommend something like Quartz over Blizzard's stock cast bars, as they have several advantages.

Problem is with destruction you have less tormenting dot power, you have to nuke them fast. Curse of tongues is my best strength as a an afflock with UA, messes them up completely, then i fear, and SB/haunt to death.
If your affliction, just start to cast incinerate at the very beginning, this eliminates them getting a lucky c/s off on haunt for example. And if their arcane and the 2 seconds silence is use fel pup silence of seduce.

Just to note, using the devour magic on your self really helps removing the crit buff or slow, (this also works on repentance and hammer of justice), the macro goes some thing like /cast [pet: Felhunter Target: [yourname] ] [Shift click devour magic here with out []]

Hope that helps, coz when i come against mages, they always say they do the worst vs warlocks.

If your using your succy don't get the seduction off straight up, open with fear and if you get counterspell then seduce, when they are seduced start casting your most epic spell,or the one with the longest cast time (soul fire or haunt). If you get poly'd dont waste the diminishing returns of seduce (and fear) just get ready to spam death coil, so you can pop your fear straight away and cut their burst down.

Personally i beat the daylights outta mages.

Yeah, I use Quartz and Aloft for my cast/float bars, I wanted to provide a tip that didn't require downloading an addon though.

One of my good friends is an outstanding frost mage; when I first hit 80 (as afflic) we dueled a lot. I won the first match and lost every other match. Couldn't seem to do enough damage quickly to prevent him from just rolling over me.

Did some research and went to the demo/destr spec and dueled him some more; the results were the same. Thoroughly disgusted, I specced destro and played for a month; got some pvp gear. When we met again I absolutely OWNED him in repeated duels.

Basically I start with Curse of Agony and Corr, then look at my damage state. If he has not damaged me much I shadowfury-stun him and follow with a fear, followed by Imm, conflag, inc and CB. At that point he is DEAD.

If, when I check my health state after the initial curses, he is already hitting me hard, I sac VW (have it on macro) and start the stuns with a Death Coil followed by an immediate fear. I use the Shadowfury if he trinkets out of either.

If he iceblocks before I can finish my cycle I pop a potion, reapply curses as soon as he is out and then shadowfury, fear and Imm, conflag, inc, cb again.

I live for world PvP and I seek out every opportunity. If you are horde and level 79 or higher and I see you while I am gathering, I immediately attack. I've learned to always use my VW because the sac has saved me many times.

Love playing my warlock!

An outstanding Frost Mage would have CS'd your Immolate/Fear, unloaded on you, and used Spellsteal on your void shield.

Nothing against you or your friend, I just got schooled in the arenas last night by a Mage who did that to me
