Wintergrasp changes. Eep!

Slightly amended Patch notes including a 'blurb' on wintergrasp.

The battle is now 100 v 100, you've got to queue up 15 mins before the start via a wintergrasp battlemaster. The allocation is random, level 80's get preference.

So if you're in WG farming, fishing having fun and don't get queued, you get ported out once it starts.

So technically there's a chance you could never do WG again with it being a random selection!

on my server tenacity stacks extremely high sometimes because theres such an off ratio of alliance to horde, and it makes winning wintergrasp extremely difficult. even with tenacity, we just cant make up for not being able to be so many places at once with how few alliance there are. it's a real problem and makes people on my server not want to bother playing. I think at this point alliance has successfully defended wintergrasp a totaly of 5 times since it's existance. I agree Blizzard has to do something about this issue, but I don't think this is a fair solution. It could literally mean I can never do wintergrasp again.

On the other hand, we rarely have more than 2 raids and they don't usually get completely filled, so at elast on my server for alliance there may be spots.That's only 80 people right there.

I have to be honest and say the WG isn't one of my favourite BG's, and that its mainly down to lag. If this fixes the lag then I'm happy, although why they can't just make it instanced when they're limiting numbers I don't know. Does this mean I may never get enough WG marks for my titan-forged blah blah's???

I just hope they've learned from this for the next one, Strand works fine and that has all of the big machines and the explosions that go with them. MAKE IT INSTANCED!

And what's with the dodgy timings too? Why not just once every 2 hours like it should be.....

I think it's an attempt to deal with the lag/crashes caused from WG though I think it's basically like... hmm, lets try this random idea and see if it works... I have a feeling that it'll be changed again before it's all over.

I'm hopeful that with the queuing and the weekly quests they may consider to increase the frequency of the battles.

Otherwise at peak times - 5pm - 9pm - a lot of people are going to be disappointed.

wow did they really think that was a good idea?

big fail on Blizzard's part! i like it the way it is. guess i will do WG as much as possible now before they go jacking it up.

I don't think they can increase the frequency that much, since you need to give people time to do the bosses. All those pugs take ages

Wintergrasp
  • To provide players with a more transparent notification of when Wintergrasp battles occur, as well as better control zone population and stability, several changes have been made.
    • Players now have the option to queue for Wintergrasp from a Wintergrasp Battlemaster in any capital city or by simply entering the Wintergrasp zone.
    • Queuing will begin 15 minutes before each battle. If chosen, you will automatically be teleported to the zone. Any players in the zone who have not been chosen from the queue will be teleported out when the battle begins.
    • The queue system remains active for the entire battle. As soon as a player leaves, a new one will be chosen from the queue.
    • Trying to enter Wintergrasp during an active battle for which you have not been chosen will teleport you out. Please note that, as you are now able to fly over Wintergrasp, you will only be teleported out if you try to land and join the battle.
    • Level 80 players get higher priority in the queue than lower level players. In addition, a random selection of queued players will be taken from both the Battlemasters and the zone itself.
    • The queue will accept up to 100 players from each faction, resulting in a maximum battle of 200 players at a time.

You may like it the way it is, but these changes mean it won't be as big a lagfest and strain on the server. It's for stability.
