If you know you got the time after this is done, and you wanna start dps'ing some while the healer is cc'ed. This is a good choise, or atleast I find it handy.
If you where fighiting in a duel, I would never do this.
You could also do it the other way around. set a firespell (nuke) up, at the time you would rather cc the dk. Yes, I am aware that you will not not be able to dps after this. But you would also save your sorry *** if the time is right.

Im not saying this is something that should be used in every fight. Im just saying that dont forget about your options.

As for dk's generally, I find them easy too fear if you are nuking another target.

And as you said, locking out your fireschool is/maby a better choise in most counters.

Regarding why I lock out my shadow school:

Fakecast SB
Seduce and run too safe spot (max range) dont forget your portal.
Dobble seduce if he trinkets.
Then start nuking, after you setup a imo - CB - conflag, you will have your shadowschool ready again, and you can start the cc chain again.
