Now, after the initial zerg, talking tactics is much harder since the outcome of each fight has an impact on the future strategic decisions.

it take 10 - seconds to capture a flag during which time gettin hit will interrupt the cap.

its logical that having numerical advantage in an otherwise even matched encounter will yeild victory.

The key here, as in any AB match is the delaying tactics employed. Ive seen a rogue single handedly hold a point for 40 secs+ against three would be cap'rs which bought enough time for reinforcements to spawn/arrive.

also, as a side, if you've got engi(as any self respecting pvp'r should do!) the hitting LM first is always win. simply speed boost jump and hit your shoot off from the top and you can land on the BS roof! dotting as you go. always my favourite part of AB.
But first mentioned by Shadowbomb

I see your argument that a the advantage goes to the side with the most individuals, however I respectfully disagree...partially at least. The advantage almost always goes to the defenders. There are several factors for this. Even if the defenders are out numbered they do got one thing going for them and that is the Graveyard. Too very often I see few defenders hold off larger forces, sometimes twice as many as the defenders, because some Graveyard spawn runs out and scatters the cappers or stops the capping. This resets it giving that extra time for other GY respawns or reinforcements to come. Another thing is that the defenders typically can see early who and how many are coming and they have time to prepare...hide, eat, drop portal, get more mana, set up ambush, etc. That is why I see zerging as an ideal strat at times (even though I am typically against it). It is my belief that AB would become a lot harder to win if defenders fought on the flag and made a point to delay the cappers as much as possible. I also see one dude cap the flag in the middle of some epic battle...we have all seen it...it's really common and we all have probably done it ourselves. Every defenders main focus should be the flag, and killing that damned healer!!!

Wow, there are clearly some EXTREMELY intelligent discussions here, all of you are very seasoned AB veterans. I just wish there are more of you on my PUGs... ;-b

Shadowbomb's point about defender superiority is very much correct. It is not too difficult to hold off a large attack with a few good defenders. Some classes too, are especially favored. 2 Paladins can do this quite well with 2 bubbles. Aside from paladins, you have Iceblocking mages with Arcane Explosion. Good slippery healers. For you destro lovers, Shadowfury is just godly in avoiding flag caps... Also, if you have time, Inferno is also a wonderful spell to stop flag caps.

I would add that, if your attacking zerg is well organized, this defender superiority can be mostly countered by doing the following.

1) Start cleaning up defenders
2) One or two starts to camp GY while the rest clean up and cap.
3) Make sure AOEs to clean up potential rogues and druids that are stealthed.
4) Have a priest ready to take away immunities.

So I think zerging can achieve its purposes of taking advantage of the number advantage, just you have to do so smartly. (BUT man, how many times have you seen, during PUGs, that 5 people starts to cap.....only to be all interrupted in an AOE...)

That is why AB is the BG that I most loved to play when I am PUGging. Because I can make the most impact as a solo player. Eg...single defender that can delay my opponents, quickly ninja weak nodes.

This is also why I think EotS is a much better BG than AB. EotS makes it more fair with its numerical advantage capping system. The game plays very much like AB, but with a lot of fluidity. AB can sometimes be a bit of a big turtle when both sides defend very well. In pre-BC days, most non-PuG games often end up with a single base changing hands....

Oh, before I go, a few tricks that You may or may not know.

1) When you first zone in, wait until the game almost starts before you do your Soul portal. Also summon it in your graveyard. This way, if you die on the first rush to LM let's say, you will spawn back at the entrance GY, ready to pick up a fresh HS before you mount up. Small point, but I think highly useful.

2) Putting your Demonic portal under bridges can also be a cunning way to defend....as your opponents will have a though time trying to find you.

3) Rushing the farm or stables with maybe 1 or 2 other person at the start. I find this works like a charm in Pugs if you can pull it off. This usually really mess up your opponent's plans and timing. I found that this initial advantage can be quite influential later in the game.

AB is always cool to do...but...as allliance on Nagrand eu server i get the feeling that nagrand is put in one group with 3 pvp horde servers and 2 other pve alliance servers...we dont seem to win...ever...so when its the daily i get to do 2 hours of non stop AB before i win it (and that's mostly because horde has like 5 players and we 15)

on strat...i tried that strategy in the op. i works (took me about half an hour before the group started to realize i was right and we won...)Have stables, LM and BS and you win...easy to defend. (only alliance has the nag to rush to farm and cap that...dont know why but...we always lose when the do that)
