3.2 3.2 "Best" PvP Spec (BGs)

With 3.2 having dropped this past Tuesday and a number of changes to PvP having gone in, some of which may modify how locks play, I wanted to ask the group here if they've had an opportunity to test multiple specs yet in BGs (rather than arenas) and what the emerging best specs might be.

Affliction vs. Destro -- any clear advantages? What about for someone who is new to lock PvP?

Has anyone spent any time playing with a FG/Meta build for PvP, given the changes to resil and impact on pets?

My little lock (my "main alt") will pop 79 later today and I'm looking forward to trying some PvP. Personally, I'd like to try a FG build so that I can use one spec for PvE raiding (affi or destro...haven't decided) and one for PvP/farming/utility. Any suggestions?

Thanks as always,

Darv

Re: 3.2 "Best" PvP Spec (BGs)

I personally still find affliction to be the most effective for me, and the most fun. Of course these are just opinions and its really player preference. I haven't tried either destruction or FG/Meta build since the patch hit.

I suggest trying affliction though. It's pretty fun. :D

I still used the SL/Deep destro build it still works the same no real big changes since 3.2 and still wipes out the opposing players in 3 to 4 hits. Using the improved VW talent out of the demonology tree making it so you can sac you VW and absorb up to about 11k damage giving you some time to react to those melee classes that just gank you such as rogues and feral druids. I found that it peeved off every class when using it against them lol so much fun while melting their face.

On the other hand i did try PVP with my main talent spec that i use for raids and since dots are no longer affected by resilience i put about 3 dots on a player and just bounce around and they die within 10 seconds.
So i guess it would all come down to play style i havent checked out affliction in arena just my destro pvp build build. Id say that you would want the destro build for arena for the stuns and slow effects or your spells against casters and melee classes.

Re: 3.2 "Best" PvP Spec (BGs)

running the cookie cutter destro build (3/17/51 or so) definately makes BGing much more enjoyable due to seeing a ton of crits, globalling many people and provided you're good at a warlock, endless pvp possibilities, i.e. multi cc'ing/Xv1 etc.

affliction has a higher skillcap, but is also fun to play; i'd suggest starting out as destruction, however.

I used Aff first and then changed to Destro, something I don't regret. The reason was mainly for Arena where Destro really shines over Affliction (this, ofc, depends on who your teammate is, I run with a Frostmage and because of that Destro was way better than Affliction).

For BGs I would like to say that Affliction and Destro is just a matter of personal choice and Demo would work here too if you like it.

I see people are really not giving any detailed reason, as to why they prefer one spec over the other, other than "personal preference"..."playstyle"...etc.

Granted I'm only level 45 here so take this with a grain of salt, but I still wish to give my reasons as to which one I'm favoring so far,as I play around with the two ,as they are duel spec'd(I as figure everyone else is too).

I'm actually preferring destro, mainly for this one reason...and this is just for BG's.

When doing BG's its rare or maybe only once or twice doing a whole BG that you'll get to go 1 vs 1 with someone without adds!...meaning when you run up against a player, even if it starts out as one on one, eventually someone if not a whole Zerg will join in,as people rez from the nearby GY,come from other areas etc...so when I engage someone,I really don't wish to spend too much time on that particular engagement,I wanna hurry up and get the KB and move on,and Destro's "Burst" enables me to do that, the fights really don't last that long.

Where as with Affliction, those dots are strong yes,but they can take some time to run their full duration, and eventually give the Killing blow, meanwhile as I'm jumping around waiting for the dots to tick, some Warrior has just Charged me! and now...its 2 vs 1 or even worst a frackin ZERG that I wasn't aware of ,just came into view.

But yet if you like to stay in a group and go up against another group,I notice that when I'm Affliction, boy do those dots come in handy!

3.2 Re: 3.2 "Best" PvP Spec (BGs)

I'm leveling my lock with the idea that I'll primarily be using him for BG PVP once I hit 80. I leveled up to 50 as affliction and have been demo since then. I'm dual-specced and will probably change my affliction spec to destro this weekend. I've only been a few bg's here and there when I'm close to the level caps, but I've been pretty successful and have had a lot of fun.

I want to end up with a good destro PVP spec and a demo meta soloing spec at 80. I'm leaving towards a 3/17/51 or a 0/20/51 destro spec. If I'm doing primarily battlegrounds, am I better off with those 3 points in suppression or in improved succubus? How much difference does the extra 3% chance to hit with spells help compared to faster and longer seduces?

Is the spell hit more help in arenas were people will generally have better pvp gear with more resilience?

Both specs do quite well in BG's alone. I don't arena, but I do pvp a lot in all battlegrounds. I switch between Aff and Destro often for pvp since I enjoy both.

Destruction + VW sac is what I prefer for when I go destro....despite the value of succubus seduce and felhunter dispels/lockdowns, the shield keeps me going. Chaos bolt is great for punching thru other's shields, and the respectable damage you can put out is great. Shadowfury is amazing for getaways, or setups. GLyphed Shadowflame is very nice for an awesome snare, especially when used with the teleport. Soul Link and the Shield give the glass cannon Destro much needed survivability and it works very well.

Now, Affliction is pretty dang neat as well. You still get the shield if you want, plus soul link, but you get a great fire and forget spec. I dot the snot outta everything in range.....just go go go go dot dot dot dot. It's amazing. The self heals from haunt and siphon life talent are great. Haunt got buffed damage wise recently. There's tons of mobility as affliction as well, since you can fire off a sequence and run, and still hurt people. The AOE instant cast howl of terror is pretty slick for survivability as well.

I like the voidwalker sac with both specs in BG's. Yes, the felhunter lock and dispel are very very good, and I do use him, but sometimes I like to just run and gun, and the sac is nice for that.

I know you said you didn't want just "suit my playstyle" but that's what you need to think about. Frontload damage, or wear them down? Mobile and sneaky with no visible casting trails if you don't wanna use haunt for sneakyness, or just stand to the side and obliterate? Me, I hide and take as much down as I can until I'm found, either in terrain or crowds. BG teammates are your friends as a lock, let them distract the enemy. GO GO GNOMES!

Both will do quite well. :D

Thanks for the great reply. What's a good destro talent spec if you're using VW Sacrifice then? 0/13/58? Something else? Going that route might fit my playstyle well.
