Hey Nex...sorry to call on you individually, but I'm really interested in your PVP spell rotation. I am a long time Felguard lover and I'm finally going to dual spec and give destro a chance in PVP situations. (BG's mostly) So....I've got my build mapped out, got my glyphs picked and I realized...I have no f*%#&@g clue how to play destro, let alone unveil it in a PVP situation. I have located plenty of info on destro PVE spell rotations , but not really for PVP. I know you run a destro spec in both PVE and PVP and as a vocal member of the community I thought I'd pick your brain and see who else chimes in. ![]() Thanks in advance.

Anyway, Smyth, there isn't much of a "spell rotation" in PVP per se, but more of circumstances and priorities. I would give a bunch of scenarios and examples, but right now my son (3mo. old) is being a bit needy and my wife isn't here, so I have only a few moments to type, lol. Tip#1: Use Shadowfury LIBERALLY!! You will see some of the best benefit of Shadowfury if you use it nearly every chance you get - one of the best spells we have IMO. Tip#2: Immolate > Shadowfury > Chaos Bolt > Conflag > Shadowburn = a good burst "rotation" while they are largely CC'd...after the Shadowburn you could throw a Fear and an Incinerate (or two) and whatever you want from here. Try to keep Immolate up as much as possible so you can Conflag when you need it, and you Chaos Bolts/Incinerates will do more damage. (In arena, when facing dispel teams, you may need to use Conflag right after you Immolate as tey will be quick to dispel Immolate ASAP.) Tip#3: Use whatever pet you are most comfortable with, but make sure to learn how to use the Felhunter and the Succubus well before you decide you like the VW. I personally prefer the Succubus as it works well against multiple targets, melee(!), and it is a CC that I can use often without having to cast it from the Warlock. Seduce works great for "stunlocks" or "Seduce nukes". That will have to do for now, but if you have any specific questions I will be more than willing to give you my imput. =)

More stuff about destro: 1.) Put a glyph of Shadowflame - it puts a debuff that slows your targets down. Also you can conlagrate right after. the damage you get from conflagrate this way is way smaller that the damage you get from Immolate+ conflagrate. However sometimes you just need this haste buff right away. Then run to get out of melee range - smves you a teleport CD that you might need soon. 2.) I usually try to cast Immolate every time first, while they are stunned. followed by conflagrate, then chaos bolt, elements (so it lands before the chaos bolt), two incinerates. If you are not at max range this will probably end at chaos bolt. at that time I am usually running around casting corruption and Curse of Agony waiting for SF CD. 3.) I use felhunter - gives two advantiges to Succy imo: devour magic gives you alternative to break a CC when your trinket is on CD. Needless to say you cant do much to a sedduced target if your up in the air running like an idiot of in an ice block ... Also seducce is a channeled spell - breaks on damage to target oif succy - a swing of AOE of careless partner - it blows not only one seduce but also one fear! they are on shared diminishing return. Secondly:silence is very useful- after you feared SFed deathcoiled and HoT you still have one CC left - silence. It may seem like a lot of CCs to go thru but its really not. Disadvantage: it only works for classes who depend on casts to skrew you. But think of this in a team there is at least one toon with mana, even DKs need to cast. 4.)Never use the autocast buttons for CC from your pet bar. you should train urself to think of your pet skills as your own. Is difficult in the begg but if offers great rewards. 5.) NEver use VW. The shield only postones your death. It show people that your noob. If you use imp your out your mind. Imp and VW are cool but not for PvP. 6.)Use teleport. Destro locks have i bit more damage reduction due to thius molten armour and nether protection but its not gonna do much - always try to get out ouf melee range. With warriors be careful. you dont want to go to far so that they can charge you. 7.) Conflagration is your vbest friend - it crits even for toons heavy on resilience but the big thing is - it dazes target and for the next 3 spells your casting is dramatically increased. Use immolate too - it increases your CB damage. Good players will dispell it right away so you have to be fast 8.)Use fear - many destro locks forget they are warlocks and paly like mages. Warlock need to fear. It is your signature spell - it wins matches. You dont have to be affliction. Even after the changes it offers 2 advantages to seduce - it increases the distance between you and your target and it doesnt break so easy. Time your fears with other CC to reach full benefit and not stack diminishing returns. 9.) use hawl of terror - there are times when they are on your asses. Howl of terror is a forgoten spell by many destro locks because of teh rediculous casting time. Shadow fury and the HoT (while they are stunned) when you desparately need them to go away. Gives you a few seconds to get on your feet ot for your healer to pull of a longer cast. Many people will even but their trinkets becase they feel they have been chained CCed and they are losing the match only opening themselves to a longer fear. 10.) DOnt take everything I say for the absolute truth - I am still learning the arena too. If something I said isnt true let me know since I dont wanna look like an idiot ;) Pardon my spelling mistakes - really didnt feel like checking after such a long post |

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the additional info Boryu. I haven't really played any PVP since Outland, but I'm really digging the newer BG's. I look forward to seeing if I can melt any faces with a whole new spec!

Ive been thinking of trying out imp in arena since the latest patch. The 100% crit in empowered imp might just be a nice time to hit a hard chaosbolt of conflag.

Hears a thought on the VW,I keep finding myself using this particular pet because it seems most effective against our arch enemy...our nemesis...The Rouge! Every time I get jumped by a Rouge I just pop the shield, and now I have the ability to get off a fear w/o interruption, provided that I make sure I turn my back to the Rouge, and don't get myself Gouged ![]() And with Fel Dom ,you can insta cast another void, which is another shield they havta go through. Now at 80 isn't that like 11k + 11k =21k? ...Hey! A Whole Nother Health Bar!!!!...I'm a Pally! |

In my experience, both as a rogue and a warlock, the Succubus is a far better pet vs rogues than the VW.

Re: Supernex to the rescue?
I'd like to just quickly add my support for Glyph of Shadowflame. Coupled with Demonic Teleport, it's just dandy for Destro, it's slick if learned well. Remember the direction you drop your portal too, you can do awesome 180's if positioned correctly. And just like Supernex says, SHADOWFURY! It'll save your life. I also wholeheartedly support learning ALL your pets, as Supernex says. I like the sac personally, but I'm well aware of what I lose. Knowledge is your best weapon!! |
