Okay so Ive been reading several different posts on several different threads where people have shared their favorite demons and give their reasoning for it. I too have expressed my preferences over several threads too. But I was just reading a post where an individual decided to name everyone a noob who used a void. I read another post which said there was one pet which was dominant over others pets based on its 'abilities'. So, lets discuss it all here. Lets talk about pets and which is better... Sense the patch warlocks have been given so much more freedom with pets that everyone's arguments no longer hold much weight. I have changed a bit too. I still use my void for my twos teams but I will switch it out to a fel hound if I am fighting a mage, priest, and sometimes a druid (healing). In my threes I use my succi. It just works the best in a more choitic situation. In a regular BG I still start with the void but I switch in and out with the fel puppy very often. Sometimes my fel domination is not finished its cool down so I get stuck with the pet I got out. My point here is that there are circumstances where one pet is better then another. Most people will admit as much but so few people actually switch out their pets. They just run with the Succi cause "its the best" or their void cause it is great vs their nemisis, rogue. Here is MY arguement. I almost always start void. in order to counter melee and pull rogues out of stealth. I never hesitate to call out the fel puppy if needed when going up against a caster. In BG's I think Void is better because most fights are never 1v1 and the shield goes a long way. Here I also see the sense of using my succi so I pop shield and pull her out for CC. I will just keep my rant short for all of you and end it with this though. If you think it is better to roll around using the same old pet for every encounter then I would argue you just might be the 'noob'. With the Fel domination on a shorter cool down things are much more managable as locks. Im loving all pets at the moment and Each one helps a ton! Thoughts!!! |

Hey there im lvling my lock ATM and so I've obviuosly been doing alot of PvE. I'm lvl30 and just got my fel, but all I use is the vw, should I be using anything else for questing? I usualy go with imp for instances and such. This is partly due to the fact that I am unfamiliar with the others and don't know when to use them :P Could you explane wat they are good for and wat I should be using when? Thanks alot! |

Re: Void vs Succi vs Fel hound vs Imp
In BG's I take the same approach to my demon as i do poisons on my rogue. I take a look at the opposing team to see what they are heavy on.... usually melee so I start with Void most of the time. If it's caster heavy I'll switch to pup, very rarely in BG do I use succy, because imo there is far to much AoE to bring it down quickly and no doubt someone always breaks CC. Defending a flag carrier I usually pop void regardless of enemy casters so we can see any stealth approaching. If i'm doing daily fishing (for ex) and there is a lock there with demon x ill use a diff one or we go double succy but parked behind us. PvE now is always Imp for me, very rare to use anything else. |

Re: Void vs Succi vs Fel hound vs Imp
Void all the way for me, reguardless of team make-up. I find myself having more trouble with melee than healers and since i run affliction i can pretty much oom any healer from spreading dots around in bgs |

I play a Rogue, DK and my Warlock. This is how I would rate the PVP pets on each of these toons... As a Warlock (Destro): #1 - Succubus (useful against most classes) #2 - Fel Hunter (useful against many classes) #3 - VW (bubble is nice, but no substitute for Seduce against melee - unless running flag in BG's, IMO) As a Warlock (Affliction): #1 - Fel Hunter (has better synergy with Affliction's playstyle IMO, I use the FH 99.9% as Affliction) #2 & 3 - Succubus or VW are about equal IMO...) TIE As a Warlock (Demo): #1 - Felguard...need I say more? As a Rogue (vs. Warlock): #1 - Succubus (easiest to kill, yes, but without a doubt the best demon against Rogues if used properly.) #2 - VW (Sacrifice is nice, but it really isn't all that big of an obstacle when compared to Seduce.) #3 - Fel Hunter (useless...) As a DK (vs. Warlock): #1 & 2 - Probably a toss up between the Fel Hunter and Succubus...somewhat depends on spec. If I spec Lichborne it diminishes the impact of Seduce significantly as I can usually down the Warlock in the duration of a Strangulate and Lichborne. #3 - VW (Again, Sacrifice while a decent damage mitigator, really should only take 2 globals max to take down, so it doesn't really make a HUGE difference in the fight against a Warlock, IMO. I have crit for close to 10k with Scourge Strike (Unholy), Frost Strike (Frost) and Obliterate (Frost or Blood) in PVP against at least partially Hateful geared players, so figure 1 crit Strike to take down the bubble if not talented, 2 globals if talented.) I could break down the advantages/disadvantages to specifics/tactics/team comps (arena), but for now this should suffice for a generality. **NOTE: The only real situation where I would prefer the VW to any other pet would be against a Feral Druid. Warriors, Rogues, and Paladins I would MUCH prefer a Succubus, and a DK I would prefer either a Succubus or Fel Hunter.

Re: Void vs Succi vs Fel hound vs Imp
(BGS)if i have a choice of a pet before a battle, I'd do it this way: Fel Pup -pally (dispel hammer) -dk (chains of no-effort and silence for DG) -healer/caster (obvious reasons) Succubus/Void -rogue -warrior |

I always drop an Infernal in BGs when its up. Just for the fun of it :D And then switch to the situational pet. 20 points in Demo is really a must now for PvP, IMO anyways. |

Also Please do break down the advantages and disadvantages to specifics/tactics/ and team comps (arena). Im curious and that would help to further the discussion. Might need to make 2 seperate posts here. Last question verse melee in general. I like to start off using VW and then I switch to another pet depending on who I fight and only when needed...even the succi! So why would you prefer to just keep succi out all all the time. Why not start with VW and switch out? The only spots I see a problem here would be with a mage or a rogue...seeing how most classes are not mages and rogues it makes sense to me to start out with a VW. Again a serious inquary, not a challenge. This is also considering that the VW sacrafice has a smaller cool down then the 3 min fel domination so I can get 2-3 sacrafices out of him before my cool down is up. That is why I only switch out a pet if it is really needed. If I know it will be a tough fight or the odds are against me... Quote:
Imp for instances is nice too for its buff of blood pact. Your on the right track in my opinion. Still I would experiment with your other pets in all situations. You will find out just how handy they can be. decide what you like. You will find that you will have your own play style and you will use your pets to fit that style. GL !

Re: Void vs Succi vs Fel hound vs Imp
I love seeing a lock with no pet (succy yay!) on my rogue very easy kill imo CS CB/Mut *seduced* trinket ...KB... has lock stunned for 1 sec longer than seduce.... Clos and wail on lock till dead... even if Clos doesn't resist the last seduce the diminishing returns means seduce or fear is on its third and final use for 15 secs of beating the lock to a rotting pulp. And if the lock trinkets the KB it usually tries to get away or panics and dc's or shadowfuries.. even if it simply moves into position and immolates its still clos sprint ftw! I have a hard time against locks with voidy. |

Re: Void vs Succi vs Fel hound vs Imp
Well for arena I hardly ever use VW or Imp. VW IS useful in situations though. I have used it when melee is pounding away and I need a quick shield, but once out of trouble I will resummon a felpup or succy. Minions are situational... we all know that. Felpup for me as affliction works awesomely. I love fighting anything that can be spell locked. I do need to get better at using devour magic but when I do thats just fun too. When I use destro I find I use Succy more, but honestly I use both felpup and succy both a lot.. probably 60/40 (felpup/succy). For Raiding I use Imp as my pve is destro. For soloing quests and non instance pve I use vw.. much like I did when leveling. Send in the vw have him grab a few mobs and then blast away. Saves on repair bills When I was demo it was obviously Felguard For Affliction pve when raiding I used succy(dg for bosses), when doing 5mans I used felpup(sometimes dg for bosses but thats just for fun ). So yeah.. basically ALL minions are usable. |
