Hey guys, I'm a Warlock relatively new to the PvP scene, and I'm really enjoying battlegrounds. I've got no interest whatsoever in Arena PvP, but I enjoy the BG scene a great deal. I've been toying around with a couple of different specs recently (both the cookie cutter Aff PvP spec, as well as my PvE flavor-of-the-month Fel/Emberstorm), and I have to say, I am always far more successful with my Felguard-based PvE build. I like some of the features of the Aff builds, but my inability to micromanage my Felpuppy means that I'm far less successful. The Felguard seems to do quite nicely on auto, so my overall success rate is higher. With that in mind, I've looked at blending the two builds, and I've come up with: The World of Warcraft Armory What do you guys think? Doable? Anything I've misplaced? I figure the plan will be to make judicious use of Curse of Agony/Corr as instant casts with Drain Life/Shadowbolts. |

The build you linked is pretty darn close to what many people consider a great Leveling spec(SL/FG). If you are going to pvp with it i'd probably go down the Destro tree with the other 30 points instead of going to Siphon Life. I say that because you can then have to Shadowburn, Ruin, Devastation, Backlash, and Nether protection. That's just a personal preference, if you prefer to play SL/FG then there's nothing wrong with that. I'd put 2 points into improved fear and take 2 out of Grim Reach but again thats just a preference. What glyphs were you planning on using? I assume Corruption, Felguard and..? |

Re: PvP Build - 30/41/0
I played this spec for ages, and for leveling, farming and soloing stuff it was great. However, PvP is now a lot about burst damage, and that spec kind of lacks in that area. I was a Demo Lock since I started playing 2 years ago, and always prefered the play style. Believe me: I REALLY wanted this spec to work, and I stuck with it as long as I possibly could. I even defended it on this forum and got my @$$ handed to me. Once I checked the actual numbers, there were no argument. A deep Demo spec kind of works better if you really want to keep the Felguard. Otherwise, Deep Destro (Check Supernex's profile for a good example of a Destro PvP build, those are not the same as the PvE builds!) is the way for PvP until the next patch comes in and messes up everything ;) |

Re: PvP Build - 30/41/0
Not to put you off but, as a Destro lock, if i saw your Felguard in a BG you'd be my first target. It tells everyone you have NO defences. Go Aff or Destro for pvp, I'd urge you towards Destro though ;) That said, I'm also of the 'play what you like' school of thought, so ignore the above :-)

Actually if you have Relentless gear and if they fixed the ATK power of Felguard to scale with your Spelldamage better, then the 30/41/0 might work :D haha! that aside, I urge you to try 54/17/0 affliction or the 0/17/54 destro both are really good. |

So after a bit of ponderation, I took everyone's advice and respecced into a 0/20/51 Demo build, and without a doubt, it's made all the difference. In just about 20 min of running around a BG, I was bringing down dudes left and right....and lasting a great deal longer (thanks to the blueberry and his tasty bubble). The only thing left to determine is an optimal spellcast sequence. I've done some digging on the forums and haven't really seen much....do you fine folks have any thoughts? Should I be using my insta-dots (Corr, Curse of Agony/CoE)? Should I be using Conflagrate quickly? (I've got the glyph so there's no losing my Immolate). What about the shard munchers? (Soul Fire, etc...) Thanks for the help! |

Re: PvP Build - 30/41/0
pvp is very situational, but usually I'd go immo, conflag asap, chaos bolt...then it's either inc or shadowfury. And of course you'll be applying liberal amounts of fear and seduce :-) conflag as often as humanly possible though, it's your best spell :-)

Re: PvP Build - 30/41/0
I depends a lot, but in general, I find its better to cast Immolate, then Chaos Bolt, then Conflagrate. Conflag makes you cast faster, yes, but a Chaos Bolt followed by a conflag is a LOT of damage all of a sudden (often around 10000 in one second) So you only have to stand still for about 3 second, then you can move, conflag and hopefully finish the target off. Since Blackslash has procced by then, if the target is still breathing, cast whatever you want. Incinerate will go off super fast. Shadowburn is good if you know its going to kill the guy and you need to move. Soulfire takes too long to cast unless you are deep enough in Demo, and seldom used in PvP, IMOA anyways. Dots are filler of a sort. If you get your fire spell locked up, dot . Or Shadowbolt, but meh. At worst it will make someone waste a GCD on a dispel. Maybe CoE is a good idea, but in PvP every GCD count, so I don't usualy cast it. I might be wrong about that though. Oh, BEST destro spec tip (took it from Supernex ;): CAST SHADOWFURY! A LOT! I mean, it stuns people for 3 seconds! I pretty much use it as my opener now. |
