An odd rogue encounter...

So there I am, 40, coming into Tarren Mill after a bit of running around. The Alliance is attacking the town as per usual, so I jump in the defense. I've got the imp out since it's what I showed up with.

After a few minutes of the normal back-and-forth, I think to myself, "Y'know, I bet there are rogues around, now would be a good time to brew up one of those Catseye Elixirs." I proceed to do so. Of course, right before I finish the potion, a rogue pops out of stealth and attacks.

"Bother," I think to myself. "I'll brew it when I get back."

I've got him on target - 46 dwarf rogue, I note the name for later vengeance - but I'm stunned or the equivalent so my spells aren't getting off. He hits me a few more times before I can move, then I get an instant Corruption and Curse of Weakness on him before he has me stunned again. He hits me some more. I get to a point where I can cast again, and then I notice the odd bit:

I still have 2/3 health. He's barely dented me.

At this point the rogue runs off, I try to tag him with a spell but he sprints out of range. I'm left puzzled.

What happened there? Did he just miss a lot? Don't they get some nasty high-damage attacks? With the imp out I've only got about 2200 health, and I kind of expected a rogue six levels higher than me to shred me fairly quickly. I have a hard time believing Curse of Weakness (even Improved 3/3) helped that much.

Rogues alternate between low damage attacks and very high damage specials, the Curse of Weakness helps tremendously on the low damage attacks.

But Ambush hits for around 1200, Backstab 800, Eviscerate 1600 with talents.

As for that rogue i have no idea...his weapon broke?

more likely it's an absent-minded rogue who just keep his skining knife in his hand instead of in his bag ^^

Or someone has some damage'd gear that needs repairing. Of course there is always the possibility he just sucked.

I have a 32 Rogue, but haven't played her much recently. I've never PvP'd with her so not sure, but I know to do the big moves you have to build up combat points. Can you build up combat points on PC's?

As you have to do the specialty move to get the combat points, and you need to do them often to build up enough combo points to do the really big attacks, perhaps he was missing lots when it counted?

Yes you get combo points hitting pc:s. Common strategy is to sneak behind your target. Use cheap shot which stuns for some time, then load backstabs on him and then Kidney punch which stuns your target again.
then load some more backstabs and then there is gouge which gives one more free backstab. Guess what cloth wearers are gonna do when rogue stunnlocks them?
they die.

The rouge sucked, simple as that. Any average Rouge that knows what he is doing would have had you on the floor without succubus, in less then 30 secs (has been the case with me, especially vs undead rouges)

Was he attacking with his Hands ? Are you demonology spec'd with Soul link? I duno, i cant explain what else was his problem.

*confuzzled*

(edit)

A rouge that much higher in level, would not have missed THAT Much!

That seems like what he did. He showed up behind me... stunned me for a bit... stabbed me... stunned me again... yeah.

I'll go with broken weapons, or someone healed me and I didn't notice.

Hehe that was one crap rogue
Was in Xr, when a 48 rogue decided it would be fun to kill all the NPCs in xr, and i was the only one of decent level 40 with my druid.

She caught me from stealth with an ambush(crit), followed by a backstab(crit), my hp bar was down to 600 from 2100, and i wear leather.
Of course an entangling roots followed by starfire-root-satrfire- root took care of the pesky 8 lvls higher rogue, but still, i wouldnt survive 5 seconds within melee range
