Anti-Casting Time Strategy

First off, I don't do a lot of PvP, in fact, pretty much none until the other night. A whole gaggle of guildies headed to the Arena for some *practice. I gotta say, this kind of organized team PvP was pretty fun. The guild master designated 2-4 person teams based on level and class and we duked it out, trying and learning different things. Quite often I had to fight a similar level warlock + 1 other class. No matter what the other class was, my team decided to concentrate fire on the warlock I watched both his strategy as well as what my instincts were.

He chose to Fear/Seduce my teammate and then both concentrated on me, even fearing my pet. Pretty much nuking shadowbolt, which as soon as I saw I was facing a warlock, I had Shadoward up I discovered in the first couple of engagements, that casting time sucks, at least for me. Too much going on, while you are standing there watching your casting time meter. So ... I pretty much only used instants, or fast cast stuff. Slapped CoT on the warlock and CoW on the other (the other always seemed to be a non-caster) and started loading dots on the warlock. Then Drain Life and Shadowbolt when Nightfall proc'd. We did not use potions or healthstones. The group I was in never lost, and I am certainly not saying it was all because of me, but .... It seemed that I was much, much more productive (or at least busier) than the opposing warlock, or at least his strategy.

Also, with larger groups (more than 4v4), Fear/Seduce really seemed to have diminishing returns as death for the person being concentrated on first rarely survived more than a few seconds.

Anyway, I really had a lot of fun with this kind of PvP, much more fun than ganking or raiding. For some reason we could not enter the Arena in Orgrimmar so everyone went to Gurabashi(sp?) Arena in Stranglethorn. For those that have never been there .... You are flagged the instant you drop into the arena and unflagged the instant you leave. If you die in the Arena, you suffer no death penalties (other than being dead It would be nice if Blizzard had an ingame method for matches. All in all, it was fun and educational.

So step up and organize it yourself. It isnt that hard to do and others will respect you for it. Events make all the difference for a guild.

never fear a warlock pet. it's a waste of a fear. always banish the pet. lasts longer and leaves fear free for another opponent. the most fun way to start a fight is howl. if you can get it off it causes major chaos at the start. use that time to slap DOT's on everything. make sure your group ties up the rogues/warriors cuz they'll come straight for you. you could probably dispatch a feared mage quickly.

I couldn't agree more. My guildies and I were in the keep in Arathi and found some horde on the alliance side area PvPing and doing quite well. I just calmly wandered into the middle of their group and used howl and it was off to the races, all of them in different directions. They never got themselves back together really, and when separeated they were much easier to take down.

1. he menat the Stv arena.

2. You can only have 1 curse active at a time, cannot curse 2 targets.

3. Never, ever cast a shadowbolt if you have nightfall, just wait untill it proccs. If you don not have nightfall, you should have improved searing pain, so spam that as a nuke.

4. Howl of terror works quite well with potions of limited invulnerability .

5. "The Big One" (tm) is by far the most fun thing in group pvp, aside the "Goblin Dragon Gun" (tm)

You can have a single curse on as many targets as you want...you just can't double curse someone.

Yeap, my VW strategy consists of having Curse of Agony on my main target and casting CoW on any adds. You can curse as many things as you want, but only one curse per warlock per target.

Hmmm ....

I thought it was one curse per target. Some things stack, but Curse of Agony by 5 warlocks yields on Curse of Agony, doesn't it? Heh. You'd think I would know this by now.

Hardly ever have more than one 'lock around so the times I have, we've split up curse duties (I'll do Curse of Agony/CoT you do CoS/CoE, etc.) and stacked stuff like Immolate.
