Dueling Hunters????

Do you guys have any secrets or tips for dueling against "Hunters"???

I can hold my own against the majority of classes, but Hunters just seem to own me hard. I can beat many classes a few lvls above me, but even hunters 3 lvls below me give me trouble.

Any input??

thanks,

As a Hunter alt, you need to get in close to us. If you stand back our ranged damage will wipe the floor with you, but up close, and especially pre 40 (pre mail) Hunters, the closer you get, the more you can hurt us. You don't need to melee, you just need to get close enough so they can't get their arrows off.

I'd lay your instant cast dots (Corruption and Curse of Agony) as you run at them, sending the pet in at the same time. Once you are pretty sure you are close enough, start Immolate while they either run to a further distance, or, and you have to chance it, run at you.

The more time you can get with them not shooting their arrows, the higher the chance of winning.

You have to be leary of Scattershot, though...typically inside 8 yds is a danger area for Hunters but with Scattershot and Wing Clip this can be a bad thing for you too.

You can bet they will know you're in area thanks to track, if theyre paying any kind of attention. Expect mana drain (not too effective on warlocks) to begin immediately and watch out for a trap. They can and will unload on you if youre not careful.

As Akasha mentioned...if you can stay in close you should stand a better chance. Dont forget Hunter melee against cloth wearers can be nasty too.

Also dont fall for the FD trick/ambush...if the pet is still there...target their 'corpse" and start wailing again.

Hunter is just a nasty 1v1 pvp class...no doubt about it.

Dueling Hunters????

Hunters can be nasty if played well, i agree.

This is my strategy which works in 95% of the times with me being the winner with succubus in duels.

Fight begins.

1.Seduce the hunter.(surprise surprise!) At this point he will command his pet to attack you, dont worry about the pet at this point.

--Beware of Running Straight to the hunter, he may have layed on of those nasty frost traps before the duel began, in front of him. Dont charge him straight, Go around him at the begining.--

2. Run close to the hunter and Howl of terror. This will send the pet feared away from you, while also fearing the hunter.

3. Dot the hunter up with everything you got. Curse of Agony, immolate, Corruption. Remember hunters dont have as much Stamina as you (usually) and they may try to burn your mana(viper sting i believe its called). So you want to kill them as fast as possible.

4. Keep the hunter feared and unload all your damage as soon as you can, you only need 1 seduce , afterwards just focus all your firepower on the hunter. If the pet comes after you, just ignore. By the time the hunter is out of your Seduce-Fear-Dot-Bolt-fear-Bolt combo, he is more then half dead. You wont even need your deathcoil or shadowburn most of the times.

Works everytime for me. I've only lost once cause i got frost traped + mana drained, then i didnt have enough mana to kill. Reason why you want to use Howl of terror at the begining is cause Fear and HoT are on seperate timers/uses. You will be able to keep the hunter feared AND his pet feared at the same time while your Dots+pet+bolts eat him alive.
Cake.

Be careful when disregarding the pet, if he is BM spec (more and more common on PvE servers) that will bite you in the arse...excuse the pun.

Good tactics BB

Exactly, it isn't the pets damage you need to worry about it is him slowing down your casting.

The 1.0 atk speed pets aren't that common early on but 1.2 atk speed ones are fairly easy to get...and there's a talent where the pet will have bursts it hits even faster.
