Shadow Priests Duel.

I consider myself to be quite an avid pvper, as i like to pvp. I have come across all the classes in the wild and in duels. I fought, i learned, i adapted, and now can pretty much wipe the floor with any class given i have the shards and the right pet.

One class i cannot, and doubt will ever be able to kill based on skill alone is an undead shadow priest. Its just not possible. Alliance priests i shred no problem, as they dont have Will of the Forsaken, so they run around like headless chikens while my fel eats their buffs (usually inner fire and pw:f besides the shield).

Now in a duel situation ,and in that situation alone, it is quasi impossible to beat an undead shadow priest. Cant fear him, he can fear you. He will throw up all his buffs, and the felhunter eats buffs at random (tested this, thought it was last buff cast would be eaten, its not) so your only chance is that he decides to eat the shield, so you can unload some massive pain on the frail priest. If he does not eat the shield however, you are simply dead. A shadow priest at 60 in shadowform will hit you with Shadow word pain for 200 per tick, and with mind flay for 200 per second for 3 seconds. He can dish out this monstrous dps while comfortably shielded. Shadow ward, spellstone, nothing will really help because a skilled priest would throw a dispel at you every once in a while.
Not to mention their shadow resistance buff which is +60 shadow resist at 60. Add to that that it is undead, thats 70 shadow resist. So if you do manage to get the shield down, half your shadow spells will be resisted.

This is simply a scenario of a class that has massive dps and some vampiric heal ability, against a class taht has massive dps, is very resistant to shadow, has a damage shield, can heal itself very efficiently,can silence,and has an ability that renders the other classes main defense spell null.

Basically, i want to know if anyone here has faced a skilled Undead Shadow priest, in a DUEL, and won. As i had my arse handed to me 9 times in a row by the same priest and cant for the life of me think of anything short of a doomguard ( post patch, heh) that will dispel him into yesterday then savagely beat up the unshielded shadow priest.

duel

I personally don't think it can be done. Assuming the following:

* Equal Level
* Equivalent Gear
* Duel
* No Tradeskills considered (engineering items, potions)

Assuming all that, I don't think it's possible. Dispell removes Soul Link, Sac shield, DOTs.... Dark Pact is irelevant. Maybe a Destructo-lock that gets lucky with some fire-based crits??

Shadow Priests Duel.

i beat undead shadow priests in duels all the time, but then again, im also undead- so really niether of us bother to fear.

so i guess if you can get around that fear you are good.

what i do is basically this,

d

cot and corrupt and even immolation, then fear, just to make his fear timer go up for later.

send fel to attack, save his dispell abiltiy to eat the priests pain, in the heat of the fight the priest usally doesnt notice that pain inst on because he has a set up of what he does, put a wrench in that setup and he loses.

mana burn, mana burn, he goes though mana quick and shields use alot of mana.

when the priest gets to 1/3 he will try a big heal, thats when you shadowbolt, deathcoil, shadowburn, and any trinkets you have, like bolts of rammistein and peasent caller (pleasent caller is great to distrut heals

you use that series of chain nukes at the end to finish him quick so he has no chance to heal.

Good opportunity for Spell-Lock.

After thinking a bit more, I have some other ideas as well. I have heard of people "covering" their important buffs with "throwaway" buffs. I don't know how it works in real combat, but I think the Priest's Dispell Magic removes the 2 most recent buffs, correct? Does that include Paranoia? If so, you could put your important buffs on [whatever], and then "cover" it with a quick Paranoia and Underwater Breathing/Lesser Invis (same cost). You'd have to leave Paranoia off auto-cast for this to work.

Your 2 cover buffs cost a total of 50 mana and require one instant cast time-window (you + pet). Dispell Magic is also instant cast, but requires 125 mana. You'll win the war of attrition.

Now, that is all theorycraft. I have no clue how well it would(n't) work in a real duel.

Just trying to help.

Shadow Priests Duel.

I've won out vs undead priests more often then i've died to them; there cerntainly though but if you can outlive there 20 seconds of fear immunity you've won the match; your best bet is to simply try and stay alive while running around keeping your DoTs/Drains on them while using felhunter to eat there buffs; first aid while there busy self healing and healthstone just as there about to take you down and you can pull out the winner.

It seems that the priests you fight dont use mind flay, and are not in shadowform, and dont silence.
Devouring plague makes up for shadow word being dispelled, and he resists any shadow thing you throw at him like hell if he has shadow protection up.

Shadow Priests Duel.

Almost everyone has a hard time with Shadow priests so dont worry. I can barely beat alliance S.Priests that are good, so i cant even imagine going against an UD Shadow priest unless i jump him.

Shadow Priests Duel.

against UD priests: fear so they Will of the Forsaken. seduce and cast CoE, Soulfire followed immedietly by CoS and seduce again. shadow bolt, seduce, corruption, fear (as Will of the Forsaken should down by now), immolate, shadow bolt, shadow burn if you have it. finish them off by fear kiting and shadow bolting if you can.

you can kill them while they have nearly a full mana pool this way. but you have to this exactly right if you want a chance at beating them. then can still cleanse, shield, quick heal, etc. very tough to fight.

Shadow Priests Duel.

I can think of one single balancing solution for the whole priest issue.

Make dispel/purge/devour take off the most recently cast buff, and not a random one. This will make life a lot easier for all dispelling classes, and will be a stealth nerf to priests, only they wont really feel it :evil:

Dispelling 2 effects a time for negligeable mana and no cooldown is kinda too much of an ability for one class to have ...
