Re: Beating Hunters?!

I think you can go either way fearing the pet or the hunter. My idea in fearing the pet is that the hunter only has a limited amount of instants that he can cast while he is backing up. After that he has to plant his feet and shoot. This means that I can get within his effective range on the gun and he has to switch to melee which he is not so good at. Of course, they can wing clip and a few other tactics to try to get range back.

As far as attack speed is concerned, most hunter weapons are not that fast, so you will get less interrupts from their gun than from the pet. However, as the previous poster indicated, the hunter has higher dps. A fully tricked out pet, even without bestial fury, still hits pretty darn hard.

Re: Beating Hunters?!

Well my troubles with hunters are gone. Ive found a sure way for me everytime now .. wether thier BM hunters or not.

1. watch there actions look for them trying to lay an ice trap and have your pet in front of you jsut incase you do miss it so your pet catches it. Some better hunters will FD and lay a trap as they get up ... watch out for that.
2. stay as close as possible to the hunter as possible. granted you will need some decent gear to withstand them and there pet meleeing you.
3. while close land every instant cast you have .. is a given .. and fear the hunter and drop and imolate and a few searing pains...if you think your fear will last long enough go for a Shadowbolt.
I now just let the pets beat on me and ignore them...definately increases casting alot but when you have 4 Dots adn other things ticking on teh hunter he wont last long.

the succubus thing works fantastic but ... not so much for an alliance when some horde the can break it and go immune for a few seconds. I had one corpse camping me the other day so i rezed half life .. he sent pet and tried for an aim shot Im guessing casue he didnt get his shot off.. I hit em with deathcoil/fear/Dots/fear/soulburn/finished with siphon life = dead hunter and me laghing at him..I had no pet being i had just rezzed and im not a demon build didnt have 10 sec to get one. he was troll so he didnt have the dam immune crap like undead and orcs.

But this works for me might not work for others but thought id share.

Re: Beating Hunters?!

I'll try that, Joe.

I dueled one of my guild-mates 3 times the other day, all with a Succubus, all losses (I didn't use any of my engineering stuff like Grenades/Discombobulator Ray, or a healthstone, because I don't typically use gadgets for duels). He was level 41 (MM spec), I was 42, but no SL yet (went for insta-cast corruption first) - we both have fairly similar HP.

First duel: Succubus seduces him, I CoW pet, then start dumping DOTs/SB on him. Pet hits hard, he hits hard, all my non-instants take forever to cast, I die with him at > 1/2 health.

Second duel: Succubus seduces, I fear pet, and start hitting him with DOTs/SB/Fear, all the while trying to close to melee range. Pet comes back, bangs on me, casting goes to hell. I die with him at > 1/2 health.

Third duel: Succubus goes in to seduce, he does scatter shot (or something similar) to stun me - not sure why seduce didn't work (possible resist) but Succubus is dead before stun wears off. I chain fear pet while DOTting/wanding him, get him down to about 1/3 health before dying.

I'm thinking next time I need to use Searing Pain instead of Shadow Bolts. And I need to remember Death Coil! I just got the spell and have yet to remember to cast it :(

Re: Beating Hunters?!

Straight up... if it is a duel the advantage is with the hunter. This gives him the opportunity to drop a trap, get initial range from you, and sic pet.

Hunters can be real pains. They are the only class I've found that I don't like running in there to kill solo.

Ideally in a PvP situation you want to send in an invisible succubus (as has been mentioned earlier in this thread) and seduce the hunter. This gives you the necessary time to close distance, fear pet, and begin to drop as much direct damage as possible on the hunter seducing in-between blasts.

Death Coil -REALLY- helps us now since last patch and you have to use it to save you either when the pet comes back before intended and you need it off of you OR as an emergency when the hunter is simply knocking off too much of your health.

I would still contend that the best thing to do, whether you have a succubus, felhunter, or whatever pet is to close range. Forcing the hunter to melee or move his feet cuts his dps fast. The key is to have him fully dotted and be dropping instants like shadowburn and death coil. I rarely have the succubus up so I'm not mezzing, so my experience has been that fighting with the hunter while he can use the gun generally works out poorly.

#1 never run straight at a hunter.. ever. your just seting yourself or your pet up to be trapped. Run to their left or right ... if its a bridge like in AB jump off to the side if hes a the other side.

If your dueling a hunter with your succubus... remember he cant see her. so as your about to accept duel run to his side or behind him...dont stop just stop your succubus back there. Now you dont have to worry about her being freeze trapped.

i completely agree with shriek a hunter not getting to use thier gun is a great thing. My favorite are "melee" hunters who think they are more effective at meleeing then shooting. I to never use my succubus anymore .. felhound is to crucial for my playstyle so no mezing for me either.
and off the subject im worried about deathcoil being nerfed... it gives warlocks a massive advantage if they know when to use it. anyone heard anything about it... besides other classes whining. :(
