Re: Hunters!

I don't think you should sick your pet on their pet, seems kinda silly.

If you're Demonology, CoW the pet, and then use everything in your power to destroy the Hunter quickly. In fact that's prolly a good idea for any spec.

Oh, and charge the Hunter, that will always fluster them.

Re: Hunters!

I'm with Cryptana about using uninterruptible DPS. So for me, that is Curse of Agony, Corruption, Shadowburn, Deathcoil, Pet, and melee/wand.

Re: Hunters!

It will still come down to who sees whom first, and the spec of both classes. If the Hunter is BM, then his Ranged DPS will be a bit lower but his pet will make up for it with short cooldowns on good pet abilites, plus his organic fairly nasty Ranged. If he is Marksman, ignoring him in favor of the pet guarantees you a speedy trip to the GY. If he is SM speccd, then he will be a pita as his Ranged will be nasty and he will have a plethora of options at his disposal, up close. A good Hunter will not let you get close enough to be a threat.

The biggest thing to remember, if his pet turns red then it is difficult for him to do anything to you in his dead zone. If there is no big, nasty red pet, charging him will practically guarantee you a speedy death, as he will Scattershot you (disorient/stun), Wing Clip (snare), run away, and pound you. Bestial Wrath (Red Pet) is a 31 point ability and prevents access to Scattershot...so you can basically tell his abilities from the lack/possession of this ability.

In my experience, the only way to consistantly beat a Hunter, is to get him when he is on someone else, get close, Death Coil and use everything you have. The trick will be to kill him before he can get to range. Hunter's just have so much DPS, Mail, good HPs, and a Pet...theyre a hard fight for anyone. Though, Warrior/Paladin are a true pita.

Anyone can be beaten...on any given Sunday...

Re: Hunters!

i agree with most except the part about not charging the hunter. Thats the worst thing you can do...stand there and try to out dps them, at range they will kill you much quicker. Scatter shot is of no concern, it doesnt last long and if its casted when you right by the hunter he cant do much but runaway and at that point scatter shot is usually wearing off or gone already.

its a chance you take i agree and largely depends who you come across, some hunters wont even scattershot when you get near and they just die to dots+instant nukes. But i will always charge them, red pet or not they just dont do the same insane dps in melee range and even if i do die, ill live that little bit longer.

Of course concussion, scatter and wing clip is a great combo and when used right is hard to counter even for warlocks.
We can send pet on them, dot and hope they die b4 you do.

Now im not saying i know how to beat hunters consistantly but i dont think your advice about not charging them works well, scatter shot does have some range the scary thing about is that it works in close range so if they want they can scatter you from distance, charging a hunter is the way to go, if you dont kill them at least you'll annoy the heck out of them since they wont be able to use their ranged attacks. They all react differently to this, some try to trap and run away (i think they the smarter ones) then you got others who will melee you and yet others who will keep scatter shot lined up just for those times.

Re: Hunters!

One thing that I never see mentioned is Flash Bombs. These 0ish cast bombs will blind (fear) their pet for a good while and can be used by anyone (made by engineers). They used to be fantastic against BM pets as it was the only thing to get rid of the pets while in BM mode. I think they changed it recently though so only works on normal pets, but is still damn useful if you're really struggling.

Similar to previous posts, I CoW on the pet, sick my pet on hunter (seduce if succ), fear their pet and then cast instants as I am running to the hunter's dead zone (or just run there if they're seduced), and then let hell break loose on them. If they start running away I'll DC to get back in their dead zone and just nuke until dead.

Re: Hunters!

Can someone verify this? Do VW taunts pull pets off of you?

I was grinding faction with my VW out and a hunter jumped me. Since my VW was in defensive mode, he attacked the pet and hit his taunt. The pet turned to fight the VW! I think the hunter didn't notice this for a couple of seconds since he was busy queueing up hit shots and watching me charge him hitting insta-dots. A few seconds later the pet started to close on me again. By then, the VW taun timer was back up and he again taunted the pet off of me before it even reached me.

That seems awfully useful - taunt the pet off until you need VW for his sacrifice shield. Lot's of hunter's probably won't be attentive enough to remember to keep re-sending their pet in to attack. It's usually a fire-and-forget thing.

Someone might wanna try dueling some hunters with the VW out and testing this tactic. Might be a great way to peel of those big red pets.

Re: Hunters!

Funny you should mention that. I was out fishing and had the VW out. A hunter comes and tries to attack me. The pet goes the VW. I get about halfway through my standard anti-hunter routine for semi-neutralizing the pet and then figure out there is no pet on me (yes I'm slow on the uptake sometimes), and proceed to destroy this hunter. I must have laughed for about ten minutes after that. I had the VW on passive and sent it straight after the hunter, so in my case, I just think it was the hunter being silly.

Re: Hunters!

Hi folks!!  , first time poster here.

Currently i am a rank 9 (Centurion) Warlock on Deathwing server and a little surprised some of us find Hunters overpowered. My win ratio vs hunters is very high, 2nd easiest for me after mages.

The only spec i haven't played is full destrction (no desire) and currently 20/31/0 (and wouldn't change a point). Although I usually run felhunter in AB it really doesn't matter what pet or spec you have vs Hunter. I have about 4850 hp's, 4kmana, and +350 to dam gear.

What I do vs Hunter-- First order of business is to insta dot hunter as you charge him (the sooner he takes damage the sooner he dies), while also dropping CoWeakness on his pet. (all instas... Hunter can't really stop this)
Second- All you need to do now is survive (dots alone kill most Hunters) You can do this defensively by running away from Hunter (no chance of trap and possibly luring him to others) or aggressively (my favorite choice) charge Hunter getting into his dead zone (deathcoil if its up and you need it to accomplish this)
Third- Once in Deathzone you crank up a fear (once you get this fear on Hunter you can wave goodbye to him because you are basicly taking almost no damage at this point) and apply immolate, drainlife, re-fear/refresh insta dots if needed. When fear is used up I drainlife until he is dead, (Nightfall procs aren't needed but always welcome). but if your Hunter friend is still alive he's either getting healed or you need to pick your self up some damage/stam gear. (Sorry to say, Dreadmist looks B), but isn't for fighting)
If I have taken damage previously or taken heavy damage from Hunter on the charge in (sign of a decent Hunter) i will drainlife then immolate after the first fear. Happy Hunting Hunters!

Remember: The only thing you can't win, is an argument with an ignorant person
