hunters pre deathcoil
im currently level 29 , and am doing a lot of bgs before moveing on. every class i pretty much own , exept hunters i put cow on the pet and attempt to chain fear ( dots then spam seering pain) , my general tactic vs everyone , however between the pet and their arrows at the beinging i cant get a fear off till im 50%. after that i dot and spam sp , fear breaks then a few more shots and im dead before next fear. any hints or tacticts vs them. ill try sending vw on their pet to taunt i heard that i usually have imp out for dps and he dies less then succy , i find seduse worthless because i cant have dots up and only 1 shadowbolt before it breaks. somtimes i use vw sacing , still lose to most decent hunter though. |

Re: hunters pre deathcoil
At that level, hunters were a pain for me as well. As a matter of fact, I think hunters are a pain at any level, I can beat most hunters 1v1 now, but its not uncommon to finish the fight with very little health left. The biggest determining factor I have found is how quickly I can close the distance and force them to run back or use mele. If you try and trade range damage with them, you will lose every time. As soon as I get hit by a hunter, I immediately charge them and put a CoW on their pet and fear it if I get close to the hunter quickly. If I am concussioned, or cant close the gap within the first few seconds of the fight, then I dont bother fearing the pet and just stack dots, spam searing pain for the fast cast cause the pet is beating on me, and if I get wingclipped and the hunter goes for more room, I will fear him and hit him with a shadowbolt and finish off with shadowburn. I think hunter fights are the most hectic ones I have in terms of timing and reaction unless I am going up against another lock or rogue. No two fights go the same usually, and I tend to change tactics based on the type of pet beating on me as well, if its a cat, I almost always fear it cause of the speed of its attacks just drives me nuts trying to get spells off, but I will dot the hunter before attempting to fear the pet always. If you don't start doing damage pretty quickly, your opponent usually keeps a cool head and makes better decisions. |

Re: hunters pre deathcoil
Another thing that helps (although AB may not run at your level) is the AB trinket - this gives you enough of a shield that you can get off some longer-casting spells even with the pet on you. Frankly, death coil doesn't help that much with Hunters anyway. I mostly try to get in their face and out-DPS them, but if they get the first shot on you, you are in trouble regardless. |

Re: hunters pre deathcoil
Dueled a hunter a couple of times last night. I rarely duel, so this was a first for me. I didnt even pay attn to the pet...duel counted...3 2 1..and i saw her lay a trap..i ran way to the right of it and it still caught me for some reason. so i sat there...she killed my imp (bitch!!) then lined up an aimed shot on me....2100 crit..ouch.. i ran straight at her...corruption, siphon, Curse of Agony, shadowburn (didnt crit!! ughh...700dmg) then deathcoil. She was a little over half hp here, and i started an immolate....i was about .0005 sec from finishing the immolate and she FD'd (lost my target) and scatter shotted me....hit me with conc shot and multishot and i was near ded..and stuck at a distance...bleh.. i lost and she finished at about 1/8th hp.

Re: hunters pre deathcoil
My usual tactic when fighting hunters is to seduce them so they cant run away right off the bat. Fear their pet. DOT the hunter then fear hunter, send succubus after them as they run around. Fear pet. Fear hunter because they will likely break from all the damage. Shadowbolt hunter, then spam searing pain till they're dead. If something goes wrong you can always reseduce the hunter to get your bearings. IF they get the first shot from 50+ yards away and their pet is ripping you up, you are in trouble. Although Ive never had this situation happen to me yet, I would probably panic (because I'd be at 50% health from the first shot) and Deathcoil the pet, and try to run toward the hunter... and because wouldnt be able to get in range I'd die. Er.... yeah.. goodluck with that scenereo. ol |

Re: hunters pre deathcoil
The key against hunters for a caster is getting rid of the pet. Most hunters go out and find a 1.2 or 1.0 attack speed pet specifically to stop casters from being able to get off a spell. If you get the drop on them set your pet after their pet, their pet acts like a mob and starts to respond and the hunter will likely respond to your pet first and not to you. (call it target fixation). the other thing you have to stop is the inital hunter burst damage...they open with Aimed shot, multi-shot, auto shot, arcane shot (or viper sting), autoshot...that is all within the first 6-7 seconds or so. I suggest going to www.wowhunters.com and looking at their PvP list on how to combat other classes...very informative. |
