When we do curator I usually will throw dots on curator during the first flare. Then I will searing pain the next several flares and then throw dots on curator again. If I get a flare on me I will drain life. The flares do not live long with all the DPS on them.

Re: Kara and the Curator road block

so while everyone has gone over what you should do as a warlock, let's look at your team over all

-Your're fine both in terms of gear and spec
-Beriann's spec is a bit wierd, it's a hybrid with ruin, with such a low hit rating i'm surprised he can even pump out decent damage
-Twolock's gear is more entry kara, his spec could be fixed up if he moved 10 points to destruction to get bane

i don't know anything about rogues since i don't have one at 70.

regarding Nightsnake, you hunter, I'm not sure what my hunter entered kara at, i think it's fine his gear altho some of the gem choices is a bit meh... his spec tho is ?wtf? 61 points in marks?

yes the fight isn't designed for fully epiced out toons but when you have questionable specs and poor gear / gem choices, you're making the fight a whole lot harder if not impossible.

Make sure only 1 person is DPSing Curator during the hateful bolts phase (the person who obsorbs the hateful bolts of course). He takes WAY LESS damage unless he is in evocate phase. Focus burst DPS during evocate and make sure to cast CoD at right time (I forget when that is) so it hits when evocate is up. Being a lock I would be the hateful bolts person -- get arcane resist ring/gear if needed -- we usually don't use it but we have already done full clears.

Of your two rogues, one is 18/43/0 pve swords, a great sustained DPS spec. The other has a pvp spec. For most classes, excepting tanks, more than 43 points in a tree is usually a waste of points when synergy could be gained elsewhere. The other lock is DP/ruin and his build is flexible and good at burst and sustained damage but not great.

For the bolts, just nuke, no DoTs. Everyone on the.

We tend to put the tank in one diamond, the DPS in the next and the healers behind, so the bolts have to come through the DPS to get to the healers and will come close to the melee....

Re: Kara and the Curator road block

I will just concentrate on what you should do as a lock :

1. Consider being the 'Soaker' get some arcane gear (at least approaching 200 res) locks are ideally suited high health ranged damage.

2. Create a macro to target the flares with searing pain, spam it and position yourself maybe front right of the ranged dps group and make sure they spread out to reduce chain damage from sparks. Maybe drop corruption on boss before COD to ensure you get the hatefull bolts later on due to your high health and resistance - healers will be ready to nuke heal you as priority.

3. Sparks should then just come to get you while you spam searing main (maybe immolate/conflag/shadowburn also if your destr spec) balance of ranged dps concentrate on nuking your target till dead ALWAYS (Even during evocate). Healers will have a better time keeping you up only (with fel armour also) rather than a group of 4/5 ranged dps all taking damage in a tight ball - spread out!

4. Curse of Doom 59 -50 secs before evocation - use bigwigs or deadly boss mods to keep track of this.

5. When the last spark spawns before evocate ensure EVERY ranged dps nukes it as it does higher damage and you DONT want it around when the next one spawns after evocate. Yeah people will selfishly like to see that 15k crit zomg but it means NOTHING if you then wipe due to stacking sparks later in the fight - this is what will wipe you - unmanagable damage from the curator and multiple sparks.

6. Consider Soulstoning yourself as soaker

7. Melee Dps in the fight is limited, running after the sparks and then back to the boss is a bad idea as low overall dps and ranged dps will pull the sparks anyway and you will keep them out of range from the back line of ranged anyway. A Rogue or feral druid on the boss as off-dps is however rather good as they can go nuts during evocate - but no more than one as you need the ranged nukage power for the sparks.

8. Rinse repeat on last evocate you nuts with nuking during enrage - nuke heal tank.

9. Collect loot

From point of view of ranged dps makeup burst damage is far more effective than anything else, destr locks can searing pain, immolate, conflag, shadowburn through the adds and healers should be healing you plenty to lifetap as required.

Affliction I suppose will just have to rely on searing pain or maybe spam sb, your might have lower dps that way if you are mostly FSW tho.

Demo should be the best set to spread damage and deal it together.

We continued to wipe on the Curator until everybody worked out that the RL would name and shame the ZOMG crits people ignoring the adds during evocation - get that down and if you still struggle then yes its probably a gearing/playstyle issue.

Anyway hope this helps - good luck

Re: Kara and the Curator road block

Here are some of the macros I use on the fight

/target Astral Flare
/cast (name of spell)

Some have said to use SB but I have found that making three macro buttons helps

Use format above and make three macros using SB / Searing Pain / and Drain Life.

The SB /searing pain and any instants you can cast such as Death coil, Shadow Burn Etc can help to kill them off. (if you have a decent mage in group they will knock the Astral Flare down to about 50% anyways)

The drain life is important for Life tap as my guess is that your healers and other casters are oom around the first evocate or by the second one if you get that far.

I usually use mostly drain so that I can bring the pain when that happens. (also method makes your healers lives a little easier)

As far as evocate if you get deadly boss mod as suggested it will give you a warning so you can cast COD

For that I use a macro as well,

/target The Curator
/cast (just open your skills and shift click your highest rank COD and it will insert it in the macro)

This macro will target and cast COD with one click (time saver)

The ideal is pretty much for the healers to keep the tank and most of the party up, burn the sparks with in 7 seconds each and let the COD in evocation drop the boss down.

At evocation pick two DPS to stay on Spark duty (I usually do this) This will keep the party from being over run by the sparks.
He technically is not supposed to have sparks during evocation but I have seen them spawn at the start and right before evocation finishes. By keeping a couple of peps on it (a hunter and lock for example) you will keep them burned down.

If any casters have a fast/DPS wand such as the witch doctors stick from heroic badge turn ins they can target and use that when OOM to assist you while they regen mana.

Anyways hope this helps yea

Re: Kara and the Curator road block

Curator is really a DPS race before the enrage timer. In my groups, if we don't have him to 68% or less when the first Evocate ends it's a wipe. If you can get him to 63-64% or better you will not see the enrage timer at all. In terms of pacing, if you drop him by a third health during each evocate he will enrage at 1%.

Something I see that is often a problem is healers overhealing on this fight and OOM at around 10%. Urge your healers to keep most of the party at 2/3 health consistently and not to shoot for topping the whole party off. And follow the other tips regarding flare managment and Curse of Doom.

Re: Kara and the Curator road block

When we were learning Curator, our issue was a few DPSers who either:

1. were using DoTs

2. were not targeting fast enough

3. thought it would be better to not say anything and just DPS the curator.

Use the /tar astral macro, and make sure everyone else in your raid is using it.

Use a ui mod that shows your raid targets - every DPS should be on the flare within 1.5s of it spawning, if not sooner. With raid targets up, you can see who is not targeting fast enough and tell them to make their macro, and keybind it.

Keep drilling it into people's heads, and you'll get it.

Re: Kara and the Curator road block

For our group, we generally have 1-2 warlocks, 1-2 mages a hunter (generally about 5 ranged dps) along with the melee and healing. All of the ranged DPS are on the flares until they are down. The warlocks put up COD with 59-58 seconds left to evocation (Using deadly boss mods and/or having raid leader call it out). People should be using direct damage only on the flares! dots take too long to kill them.

We usually spread out among the columns dividing up between healers and ranged dps so that people can be healed and spread out so we don't get chained. A healer in the back with two ranged dps. A little in front is a dpser and a healer on either side. Then in the front near Curator another ranged dps and a healer. I haven't heard of forming the circle around him before.

I don't use the macro and tab targeting seems to work fine for me.

Re: Kara and the Curator road block

The idea of being able to see what everyone is targeting so as to keep track of that sounds great. Right now I am using Sraidframes. Is there a way to do this with those or do I need to run a different or additional addon to get this function?

The advice everyone is giving us is really appreciated. We're glad to have made it to him. We're a close knit social guild and to be progressing through Kara is a great feeling. Having a group or raiders here to help me learn my class, learn the fights and toss some advice my way when I hit hiccups like Curator is a great resource. So thank you to everyone that is taking the time to give my group a hand up.
