Exact Values of Stats and spell hit as affliction.

Ok so I got trolled on a forum some where for being an Affliction lock that was trying to max my +spell hit at 202 and lose my suppression crutch. It has been a question that has plauged me since I started geming. I am considering replacing all my +hit gems with +damage gems to see what the change in dps is... does anyone know of a calculator or a formula that will tell me wich will do better for my overall dps? Is +hit really better than +damage i am at about 150ish i think and have a few points in suppression and I have almost 1000 +s damage. I dont really need advise on my gear persay just an answer or a way to figure out for myself wich to gem... hit or damage? I top all the damage meters in raids...not so much in heroics or normal dungeons. Is spell pen really useless in raids? I also know a few firelocks does anyone know anything about them? She is lackiing in raid dps but good in instance dps... any one have any say on that? I looked through the forums for a post on spell hit and spell damage for an affliction raiding lock but cant seem to find anything. I read it somewhere though that I needed to get my +hit to 202 even though I have suppression so that I have those extra points to spend somewhere else in the talent trees, and so that my SB that i spam a lot is not resisted... help please

WoW Warlock DPS Spreadsheet There's a fabulous spreadsheet here that allows you to input and change gear/gems/enchants/talent builds as much as you would need to and also gives you an exact personal evalulation on exactly how much dps hit or damage is worth at your level of gearing/

Spell penetration is useless in raids - its a PvP statistic.

Shadowbolt spam makes up approximately ~40% of your damage so the higher your hit rating the smaller % of resists you'll see.

I'm not going to close the thread but you clearly didn't take the time to search thoroughly - we'd really appreciate it if you took the time to do some before posting in future to help us keep the forums concise. capping hit is essential for dps regardless of spec. Remember roughly 40%ish of your damage comes from shadowbolt spamming. If you regem +damage and gimp your +hit you'll get more resists on your shadowbolts as suppression only affects your Affliction spells not Destruction (read shadowbolts. I didn't mean to hit you with a wall of text but it seems that the more searching I do the more questions I have and then I get overwhelmed with posts and searches that I get completely lost. The other questions were more well I am making a post might as well ask some other questions. :P

While I think it is wonderful that you are aware that spell hit is important, I just thought I'd chime in and remind you that better stats come with better gear. Don't try so hard to force spell hit when you are still half in blues. Keep suppression for now. All you are really going to do is spec into Malediction which you could do by getting rid of imp Curse of Agony and soul siphon.

Secondly I see a pretty diverse selection of gems in your gear. If you want to up your DPS don't socket anything other than +hit/whatever gems until capped. You really won't scale well with +crit gems right now. (Also, don't be afraid to break socket bonuses.)

Mostly though, just take it easy and keep the game fun. At the gearing your at you are doing just fine.

Concerning the Firelock, I'm assuming that she is geared equivalent to you (post her armory and spec for more relevant info.) If so, then the spec is gimped by low spell hit which would explain low raid dps and better instance dps.

Try downloading open office (www.openoffice.org) it has a free suite of office programs comparable to Microsoft office.

Simply put - DoT's only do about 1/2 your DPS.

Supression affect 3-4 DoTS - Corruption, Unstable Affliction, Siphon Life, Curse of Agony (if you can use it)
-It does not affect immolate (if you use it)

The other 1/2 of your DPS comes from Shadow Bolts
- If you're missing 16% of the time it doesn't matter what your spell damage is your gimping yourself.

Even if you have 6 sockets with +8 or +10 hit gems
The most you'd get out of pure spell damage would be 48

99 SB x 1500 (or whatever your average is this is a for instance) =148,500
vs
83 SB x 1548 (minimal increase would be etc) = 128,484

Of course this doesn't take into consideration crits but you can understand where this is going.

I always beat her in dps unless in an instance and she only started catching up in instances recently... she doesnt use any shadow spells.
