Just hit 70, trying to get BT ready ASAP.

So my roommate's raiding guild is currently on BT, and I'm trying to catch up as soon as possible. I just got my lock up to 70 (my first char to hit the level cap) and am looking for some advise.

Currently my plan is to continue questing in order to make the gold required to pick up the Spellstrike gear, as well as the Belt of Blasting. I'm also trying to grind rep so that I can make my Sorcerer's Alchemist stone. As well I'll be bugging my roommate to run me through Kara and some other stuff whenever I can.

Some questions:
I've read the guide to gearing your lock, in particular the part for getting ready for teir 4/5/6 without needing to step into a raid or the arena. Which items on that list should I be ignoring, since I'll be easily be able to pick up better alternatives when I get run through some of the easier raids?

What would be the best places to get my roommate and his buddies to run myself through?

Is it a better idea to get my flying mount right away, or save my gold for gear, and grab the mount later?

What would be the best spec at this point? I'll probably be spending most of my time solo questing and running instances, with a few runs through higher level stuff, so I don't need a good raid spec just yet. I've been leveling as Dark Pact/Ruin, and really enjoying it. Please use the appropriate section and format for asking talent build questions.

Thanks in advanced

Is your roomate and the guild as a whole aware you are planning on jumping into T6 content with them? If so, then I am surprised they do not have a plan already in mind to get you servicable gear to get started.

My roommate does, but he's not really big on the whole "planning" thing. I'm sure if I come up with a good plan I can get him to go along with it, and probably get some fo his guild to help.

Depends on what instances you want to run, some you can only get to if you have a flying mount. If you have the gold spare, get it.

I think it will take more than gold to get T6 gear... I say go for the mount

Why would you want to do this? Raid for the fun of it and to learn new fights not to get loot.
More practically does the guild have an open spot for a warlock? Are you prepared to be hated by most of the guild even on the remote chance you were accepted? If one of my guildies tried to foist a scrub gear lock who has no idea of how to raid onto the roster I would be pissed. Find a guild running kara have fun in there and wait for the x-pac to raid with your friend.

Wow, Akasha is being really nice. I thought this thread would be locked already.

If your guild has accepted you for raids wearing greens to raid into T6 good luck.
You need much more than just the right gear from T4 or T5 however. While you acquire the T4 gear (Kara, Gruul, Mag) should only take a few clears (weeks) with your UBER buddies since you would get all the gear (they don't need it), you learn how to raid (work as a team).

Raiding is much different than leveling.
Each of these areas has been well covered before.

Go to Canadian Pimps excellent gear guide; select the appropriate T5 items and have your guild get them for you.

Spec destro 0/21/40 (or similar) build threads tell you how to play it also.

I hope this helps you bypass all the drudgery of actually playing the game.

Re: Just hit 70, trying to get BT ready ASAP.

Wahoo for children's liquid benadryl...?

Yes get your flying mount, but hold off on the epic speed.

Keep in mind that Lich King will be a big reset button. You don't -need- to catch up with your roommate ASAP. Lich King, whenever it does come out, will take care of that for you. Whole new level cap, whole new raid progression, new gear itemization.

Still, if you are in a position to get tricked out by a T6 guild, I don't blame you for taking advantage.

A plan I would suggest is count on getting the armor set tokens and badges first and foremost. So, write down which slots the T4/T5 armor sets take up, compare that to a list of badge of justice stuff, then maybe compare that to a list of season 2 pvp stuff. All the slots that aren't occupied by Voidheart, then Corruptor, and the slots that very-worth-it badge stuff don't occupy, and maybe the pvp stuff that's very worth it, are things to drop hunt for.

The reason I suggest this is if you're going for speed, and you know that armor tokens will be yours to grab, then relying on the RNG to drop something you need off one particular boss is a crapshoot. It could be very quick, but chances are it will be the timesink it was intended to be for more natural progression. While there may be good chance that the Voidheart/Corruptor set can be outgeared by true drop stuff, you also know that it will be at least enough to be respectable moving onwards. Even if there is a 5-man that has a drop that would be very good for you, the droprate probably means it isn't worth the effort, if that boss doesn't also have a chance of dropping an upgrade for the other people you have. Since they're catching you up to speed, use their strength. If you know that you'll get the armor tokens, and since you know you'll get badges, a steady, reliable source that can be pushed through quickly with very well-geared friends is a system you can milk.

You would be the luckiest player to play wow if you can get from RUGS to T6 gear in a few weeks.
