Framerate and DPS

Over the last year or so I have followed the guides and suggestions here and thought I had my lock pretty well geared considering that I hadn't done any end game instances beyond a couple of bosses in ZA and regular clears of Kara. I just joined a new guild where I have been able to run The Eye and Hyjal.

When I joined this group a couple of weeks ago, I was sitting on about 1100 shadow (self buffed), 12% crit, 202 Hit. with a UA spec. My first raid with them was to Void Reaver and I was severly dissapointed with my damage/dps for the night. The top 2 locks in the guild were running in the top 5 on the meters where I was 13th! For the entire run, my average dps worked out to be about 400. After comparing gear with the highest dps lock for the run, I realized that I actually had more shadow damage and more hit (they were UA also). My dps time was lower which accounts for the huge disparity on the meters but it was my first trip in there.

I did some gear and gem changes, maximized everything I could using the spreadsheets and information here and respecced to 0/40/21 and then 0/21/40 to give them both a try. My personal dps went way up, as I had managed to boost my shadow to about 1175 and crit to 19% self buffed and 200 hit. Due to imp issues (ie leaders wanting us to actually use them), and very close numbers in the spreadsheet I went back to 0/40/21 a couple of days ago. According to the spreadsheet, 0/40/21 with the succy out and my current gear with give more dps that 0/21/40. Plus I don't want to be gimped if I'm asked to use the imp. Trying both specs my shadow bolts seem to hit for just about the same, typically around 1800-2000 normal with crits in the 4-5k range running by myself. In the raid they would spike up to about 6k.

Last night we downed Void Reaver again so I was able to compare myself to the other locks with my new spec. Although my overall dps and damage has increased I was still being beat out by 2 lesser geared locks. One thing I have noticed is that if I'm in a 5 man, or running solo, I can usually get between 900-1200 dps on a fight. However in the 25 mans my dps drops by a couple of hundred. I maximize my rotations, start casting either at the same time as the other locks or even a little sooner when I have the imp out, use Dotimer so I always have a shadowbolt in the que ready to start casting as soon as the first one fires (unless I have to trinket/lifetap/etc). I'm starting to think that it might be due to my framerate/lag issues. When soloing I run about 40 fps with 280-320 ms. On 5 mans the framerate will drop to around 20. In 25 mans though it drops way down to 7 or 8 during boss fights. As I use the timers to maximize my casting, I'm still wondering if this might be why I'm falling so far behind. If so, obviously my only choice is to look at hardware upgrades as I'm already running with everything turned way down, unless I need to boost spell detail for certain fights like Ragefist.

Re: Framerate and DPS

definietly lag probs Bro. try dropping yer i mean your gfrX settings down maybe 1 or 2 sliders to the right. my personally settings are minimum res and minimum colors. the only sliders i have to the right are weather and objects in distance and still that only increases my dps moderately. a consistant 230-300ms of latency would be normal and acceptable. but will increase especially in raid environment. ultimately faster better, sacrifice looks and sounds for dps

were all lockes here we all know how to sacrifice
