DPS time question!

Hey all...i am new here so....nice to meet you!! this site is so useful!!

Now lets move to my question

According to wws stats i am always first on dps but third or fourth in the

total damage out...this is so because my total dps is low i am destro (0-21-

40) need a bit work on hit rating (190) and have 28% critical 1250 sd with

fel armor...rotation is simple...coe-sb-----sb

My question is how i can increase the dps time? should i include imolate in

the rotation?

Thanks a lot

Re: DPS time question!

Immolate will be helpful.

I recommend you pick up Leulier's spreadsheet. It will give you the best answer based on exactly every piece of gear, enchant, gemming, cast cycle you have.

Re: DPS time question!

Immolate is generally an increase until 4pt6 but to know for sure you have to spreadsheet your own gear

Re: DPS time question!

Total damage done is what is important. DPS and dps time are subject to time spent casting dps spells. You can stand around and cast nothing entire fight except for say a trinket+heroism burst and get a 3000dps on the meter but bottom of damage done.

Spamming bolts and lifetapping should give you high dps--dps time should be near 100% provided the fight mechanics allow it. As already mentioned, the spreadsheet tells you if immolate is worth casting (though bolt spam is easier to maintain which isnt really reflected in the spreadsheet).

Re: DPS time question!

Depends on the fight. I suppose you could DoT to improve your DPS time. How are you doing compared to the other locks in your guild? Are they ahead of you in overalll damage done? I found Quartz was a real help. Also (and some people might not like me to say this) Recount really helped me increase my performance. For me it helps me push my DPS as I can see how I'm doing compared to everyone else. I never used to use it as I thought meters encouraged recklessness but I went from being inconsistently between 1st and 10th on the WWS to consistently in the top 4. Just be careful and make sure your threat is safe and Recount can be a very valuable tool.

Re: DPS time question!

With your stats I would not include immolate in your rotation as a general rule. The most important reason is because immolate does not proc the ISB debuff, s-bolt does. Regardless of any slight personal damage increase (and it would be slight, if any at all) the ISB debuff will serve the raid far far better, even if there is only one other shadow user (unlikely).

Immolate should only be used situationally, usually in conjuntion with corruption, to put a dot on a boss that is about to go immune or to cast something if threat is an issue and you don't want a stray s-bolt crit to pull the boss/mob off the tank (such as at the beginiing of a trash pull). An example would be to put corruption and immolate on Teron Gorefiend as your last two spells before you need to run to the corner and turn into a ghost since you won't be able to cast s-bolts anymore.

Re: DPS time question!

Comparing my self with another similar geared rogue i am behind

in dps (not very much though) mainly because he casts more shadowbolts

than i do ...but i guess this depends on the trinket (he has teh mgt trinket

while i have the icon of silver cresent and the one from the ssc with

critical) Thank you all for your help!!

Re: DPS time question!

When i raid in guild i'm consistenly either #1 or #2 on the overall charts (trade spots with a fire mage) and always top DPS by like 100-200, bu ti almost always dead last in activity.

I always attributed this to the long cast of bolts and my constant juggling of threat backing off etc. So while i'm last in dps time i'm always at the top in damage done, so i don't consider "time" a huge issue.

Re: DPS time question!

"Activity" means nothing really comparing it to other classes or even other specs of the same class. Auto attacking and different cast sequences and times make is useless that way.

"Activity" as it is displayed by Recount IS however useful when comparing it to another warlock with the same spec as you. If you and him are significantly different in activity, one of you needs to improve something.

Shoot for having higher activity than another lock the same spec as you, that is a good indication of player skill rather than simple dps, which gear influences.
