Just got back to the game after being gone for a year, so I'm still trying to digest all the new stuff. I'm almost 80 and should have a mix of the basic and advanced gearing your lock for naxx gear by the time I hit it. A few questions: For my initial raid build I was considering 0/41/30 or 0/40/31. Is the choice basically a playing style one or are there clear advantages to either? Is destro still the better choice for pure DPS in higher level raiding, assuming you've passed a threshold in terms of hit, crit, spell damage? If so, what's that threshold? Do any demo builds have a place in high level raiding? thanks |

Re: Raiding build and switching to destro?
There is one big difference between 41/30 and 40/31 and that is the pet - Felguard vs Imp. 40/31 seems to have fallen greatly from favour in the last couple of patches due to changes (nerfs) to key abilities/talents. 41/30 gets favourable reviews for a "new to 80" build which works well in heroics. One disadvantage is a lack of points in Suppression means it needs 3% more hit from gear than many of the other popular builds if you plan to raid with it. Destro is the current best raid DPS build, though all popular raid builds are reasonably close you wouldn't be a fool for choosing any in particular. The only threshold you need worry about is reaching the hit cap, which is true of all builds. Wrath is different to BC where Affliction was the best at Tier4 gear level and you "graduated" to Destro by Tier6. Demo builds are used currently in high level raiding, primarily in a raid friendly version which uses Demonic Pact and Improved Shadow Bolt to boost overall raid performance. The personal damage is less than affliction or destro though. Best advice is to invest some gold in a few talent respecs and take some of the popular builds for a spin through a few instances and see if you prefer the playstyle of any in particular. Also check out your guild's usual raid composition and see if you will be needed to provide any particular buffs/debuffs. |

Cool. i raided in BC with different affli, demo and destro and always enjoyed demo the most. Is the build you're talking about 0/50/21 ? 3/53/15 looks like it could be a lot of fun...Not sure how it would perform |

Re: Raiding build and switching to destro?
3/53/15 is the personal DPS version of the raiding Demo build, while 0/56/15 is the raid buffing version. The difference between the two is 5 Demonic Pact vs 3 Suppression + 1 Molten Core + 1 Cataclysm. Those talent builds are courtesy of the Simcraft thread at Elitistjerks, I've not tried them personally. I've not seen 0/50/21 anywhere except wowwiki so no idea where is stands in terms of relative damage output, presumably not great otherwise Elitistjerks would have theory-crafted it by now. |
