That is like me I am an Aff Lock and a Combat Rogue. I can play the other specs but my heart just isn't in it.

Re: Affliction PVE, worth it?

I love using Affliction for pvp, but can't seem to get my dps up with it in raids, which is why I'm dual spec destro.

Anyone know a good rotation for affliction: currently I use corruption, agony, haunt, UA, drain life, rinse and repeat. I usually throw a fear or death coil in the mix to keep the heat off me.

Any suggestions would be great, but keep in mind I just learned affliction so be kind. lol

Re: Affliction PVE, worth it?

LT(if you got the glyph)-SB-haunt-corr-UA-Curse of Agony with SB filler

the reason for SB-Haunt being first is to apply the 2 stacks of the debuff before you apply the rest of the dots. at HP<25% DS for filler. As said above, do not clip your dots! and thats critical. only haunt you "can" clip, but try to avoid it.

im sure there's an affliction guide somewhere in here, search for it

I go with LifeTap rank1 (to get the spirit spellpower buff) Shadowbolt, haunt, corruption , UA , Curse of Agony, and if will be up long enough Immolate.

Re: Affliction PVE, worth it?

Affliction is still a good spec the dps differenceisnt large enough to make a huge difference
destro is easyier on moveing fights but on holding still fights affliction can often out dps destro it all comes down to preference

No it can't outdps destro on tank and spank fights, unless the fight starts at 30% boss health. Movement actually helps affliction, if it comes in the right pattern

I've compared, and I do better dps during the Acidmaw & Dreadscale phase and better overall damage during Icehowl with Affliction than Destruction.

Any time you can cast Curse of Agony, Corruption and UA on a second (or more) target while you do your full rotation and SB spam on a primary target, you have a really good chance of equalling or even better destruction dps.

However, one mechanic can make the difference. I can do good numbers running Affliction on Jaraxxus, for example, because I can dot up the adds and the boss at the same time. However in Grand ToC I'm basically required to roll destruction because the imperative is burst damage. When a portal or volcano comes up as Affliction all I can do is SB spam it, my shortest dot would only runs half-way through. Or during Anub, Affliction works fine on the boss and main ads but is clearly inferior to destruction during the submerge phase.

On that note, does Shadow Embrace diminish Leaching Swarm? I can't really tell, we don't cut it close one way or another but I was thinking for when we finally face Anub TotGC25....

yeah, you're right, I didn't take multi-dotting into account. It helps, but you also suffer from dots that don't tick through a full duration, and from only having haunt up on one of the targets.

Maybe I'm not the best multi-dotter, but I did ToC and ToGC both as affliction and destro (ToGC only up to FC with affliction). Our dps'ers are quite homogeneous, and affliction would typically mean I find myself between 5-10 instead of competing for 1-5 with destro. Probably there's room for improvement, but I have a demo offspec now for Anub...

I'm looking forward to 3.3

Re: Affliction PVE, worth it?

Here are todays numbers in my affliction spec:

i did VoA 10man and only pulled 3,5k dps on Koralon, which is quite disappointing. but i haven't lost hope, so i pugged a VoA 25man. 2 destro locks and me. 1 was top with 6,3k dps, the other was at 4k dps. surprisingly, i was at 5,8k dps!!! at Koralon again. i did a rough inspection on the other 2 locks but here are their links.
at top meters was Burklock: The World of Warcraft Armory

and the other guy was Obscurae: The World of Warcraft Armory

i cant say im good geared : The World of Warcraft Armory more like average i think.

some more details: im always around 250-300 ms latency, but with good fps ~80 in raids.

i havent played wow since August btw, just revived my lock yesterday. at some points i had some self-lagging there lol

i would say, unless you are progressing on end game content, on which you HAVE to deal as much damage as possible, along with other things, affliction works just fine
