Warlock Class Changes for 3.1!!

WARLOCK

  • Improved Shadow Bolt – this talent now provides a 5% spell critical strike buff (similar to Improved Scorch).
  • Improved Soul Leech – this talent now provides Replenishment (similar to shadow priests)
  • Drain Soul now has a chance to produce Soul Shards even if the target doesn’t die.
  • Siphon Life no longer as an active ability but the talent grants the old Siphon Life effect to Corruption.
  • Curse of Recklessness and Curse of Weakness have been combined into one spell
  • Consume Shadows – this Voidwalker ability is no longer channeled but has a cooldown.
  • Several other warlock talents have had their ranks reduced, their effects changed or removed. This list includes but is not limited to Demonic Empathy, Shadow Embrace, Eradication, Suppression, and Pandemic.
  • Additional new talents have been added.

More added about siphon life and corruption:

Basically, what this means is that warlocks who choose to take Siphon Life will be able to activate the full existing effects of the talent by simply casting Corruption.

My initial thoughts are "cool".

-I like the ISB change. My guess is it will not stack with imp scorch and winter's chill from mages. And, since it's 5%, I'm willing to bet that in the "mage preview" their debuff is being lowered from 10% increased crit to 5%.
-Improved soul leech is a nice little utility spell for warlocks that deep in destro.
-I am lovin' the drain soul and siphon life change!! This is great news indeed.
-CoR and CoW being combined doesn't do much in PVE, since they really aren't used in PVE.
-The consume shadows change was needed for the stealth detection in PVP. Though I hope warlocks don't overreact and think this is all blizzard has planned to help us in PVP.

-The talents changes, and additional new talents is intriguing. I hope we can definitely get more light shed on the subject. I've posted a thread here. We'll see if any blue loving comes my way. Changes?


Further clarification on siphon life change:

The new siphon life change is nice.

It eases the pain of the affliction rotation.

I am glad that they are looking into this. I like the idea of the Siphon Life but I can see problems with it. I would like the option of having either/or. Maybe I am not seeing this clearly and correct me if I am wrong since I am work and can't spend a great deal of time on it.. I will point the most obvious. Drain Life and Drain Soul (Drain Soul either does or has been talked about doing this) count each dot as a debuff and raise the amount of damage/healed so if we loose a dot in that respect then those loose some damage. Loosing Soul Siphon woulld hurt in those situations when we are trying to solo something with a pet. I guess this is not as much of a deal since I don't think they meant for us to solo something like Ony, but looses a little cool factor.

Interesting changes!

Siphon Life no longer as an active ability but the talent grants the old Siphon Life effect to Corruption.

Makes corruption a super spell, it will do massive damage, heal the lock and be refreshed with every haunt.

I can see me spamming this on every ally in WG.... not that i dont already.


Drain Soul now has a chance to produce Soul Shards even if the target doesn’t die.

Does this mean a change on tick, chance on spell end? can see how this mechanic might be glitched where locks will be repeatedly tapping DS to fill their bags.

Overall tho, a great rollout.

Question, will the siphon life part of the spell be a seperate damage/heal, will it crit?

The Siphon Life change ... Are they moving the damage of SL + the current damage to Corruption? Is the DPS trade off is that we're getting HUGE life gains per tick instead of small ones?

Siphon Life was 81 Health per 3 seconds.

Corruption was 180 per 3 seconds.

So with Haunt up all the time, Warlocks can look at 180 health per tick baseline rather than 80 now instead?

I could merge this, but I'm not going to. I'm not entirely confident as to what would happen to a main news post thread if it were merged with one that isn't or visa versa. It might sever any link backs to that article or break the news section on the main page. Merging is a rather sensitive issue as once it is done it cannot be undone.

As Fallenman suggests, we'll just leave this for Akasha.

We won't be healed for full corruption ticks...talk about OP! That would just be silly.

My guess is that they up the damage of corruption by about the same amount that SL was ticking for, and you get healed for that amount of damage added...no overall change to DPS or healing, just a slightly easier rotation...that's all they were aiming for.

My guesses...

DE - probably removed, it's too weak for a tier 9 talent.
SE - ranks reduced, I'm guessing it'll be 3 ranks.
Eradication - possible overhaul, nothing was said, but whatever changes promised to Lock and Load (Hunter Surv) in part 3 might apply here.
Suppression - possibly removed and Cataclysm providing 3% hit to all spells instead. Somewhat like Elemental Precision (Mage Frost), but Arcane retained its hit talent...
Pandemic - 1 rank? Or we can dream of it allowing haste to buff dots...



Finally the Destruction tree gets some raid utility. More Replenishment sources are welcome. The ISB change actually benefits Affliction and Meta/Ruin warlocks instead, but no one's complaining. No more buff monopoly for mages

Hopefully we'll see Blood Pact buffed in some way or other, either to the level of Comd Shout when fully talented or back to providing stamina instead.
