Conflag Damage Reduced

World of Warcraft - English (NA) Forums - Conflagrate damage reduction

We are hotfixing Conflagrate to do 70% of Immolate's total periodic damage instantly (down from 100%). The tooltip may still say 100%, so we didn't want this to feel like a stealth nerf.

Since there are so many threads on the topic, it was hard to pick a single one to post this in.

We want for warlocks to have some burst potential, but we feel like it is too high. We don't want the lock playstyle to be the "run around and drop people with huge nukes" gimmick that we have already tried to tone down in say Arcane mages. We don't want to push all warlocks, even in PvP, towards Destruction just to get these big hits or crits. Even if you are "only" getting 5K crits off of an instant spell, it will still be a great button to push.

My thoughts? This sucks, and removes the viability of conflag builds for raiding. Napkin math gives me a 500dps loss with this change.

Conflag Damage Reduced

Figures I should of known that was to good to last. I dont understand with after months of ptr testing they have to take this away from us now after giving us a taste of sweet sweet 14k conflag crits. I hope they make the damage up elsewhere or its just going to be a straight up pve dps nerf.

Re: Conflagerate Hotfix (Blue)

Is this going to make affliction the only spec for serious raiders to bother with again?

Re: Conflagerate Hotfix (Blue)

Well hopefully they will add in some sort of damage increase to offset the dps loss from this later. Right now they are just doing the usual post patch thing and hotfixing as quick as they can. Destros overall dps should still be higher than it was pre patch, as things stand though its probably back to being the 3rd most viable raiding tree. QQ from an old destro lock. lol

LOL.

At least I got some time in before I turned back into an immobile Frost Mage who shoots fire.

ok, speccing back to deep affliction... bah... couldn't even test it on a real boss, since the instance server crashed after we downed flame leviathan...

I think they do this on purpose.

Here you go Warlocks we are giving you this nice shiny BMW.

No wait just kidding you get a 1978 pinto.....

Sure we still take that Pinto down the road at 95 miles an hour, but we don't look as good doing it.

Re: Conflag Damage Reduced

I did get to play with it last night for a while. The average hit was around 3500 with crits as high as 13.5k on Loatheb. Casting it when Immolate had been affected by a couple of proc's and getting a crit was amazing.

So, does this mean 0/41/30 will be a little better for raiding and a little soloing? I was gonna pick for my second spec 0/40/31 but i guess this looks better now?

Re: Conflag Damage Reduced

I can understand that Blizzard have found the current crits too big (I was doing 16k this evening in Ulduar). However, they have had at least 6 months to work out a way of making their failure ridden conflagration based specs to work. They failed in The Burning Crusade where it wasn't worth casting, then in Wrath of the Lich King it was okay but lagged behind Affliction.

They finally get some numbers high enough to make it worth going destro and then they patch it within 24 hours to keep PvP players happy?

If you get any chance make sure to let Blizzard know that this kind of nonsense is getting boring. Conflag seems to be at least 20% of my damage as 0/13/58 so they have just stepped in and said ... "here's a >6% damage nerf on day 1".

Couldn't they find a quick way to introduce this nerf, but buff chaos bolt or immolate or something to even it out?
