Hi all, long time lurker, second time poster - my $0.02 worth. This is something I had a discussion with an old guild on an earlier character on another server many moons ago... I too, am lamenting the lack/drop of RP in the game and, while I realise, that it is probably the case that RPG is not important for the majority of players, it should still be the basis for the majority of changes which occur. Reason is, that a change like this, like it or not, DOES have RPG implications. You have a player who WAS in a faction and has defected to the other side. One thing I'd love to see is faction change WITHOUT race change. Possible? Why not, Cenarion Circle has Tauren AND Night Elves, Ebon Blade is made up of all races. It would seem to me that races are not hard coded to oppose each other. But, the way to do it would be in game: 1. Account owner asks for faction change from Blizz (they WILL want to be paid for this) 2. Player gets an in game mail to speak to an NPc setting them off on a quest to change factions 3. The quest line is designed to get the toon - race and all - to swap sides. Blizz could go to town with this quest line. Faction class restrictions no longer apply: Horde have Pallies and Alliance have Shaman - so that isn't an issue. The only issue would have to be a level restriction. The toon would have to be at least level 10 - get them out of the starting area for their race - even that isn't a major issue: Tauren taking on Hogger - FTW! But, what will probably happen, is that Blizz will cave to the instant gratification 13yr olds crave so that they stop QQ'ing... |

I for one am thrilled with this. I won't be changing my character, but a RL friend has been Alliance for a while and so he has gold to support his playing. I don't like alliance, so I rolled Horde. Well we hardly get to play together because of that. He has often said he wished for a faction change, and it looks like Bliz is finally giving us the options. As for those of you that think this is the end of Role Playing.. well thats sort of laughable. Why in the world would it be an end? The person will simily role play as a new race. Think of it as a new character. This is a much better option than simily trashing your one character to make another. Also Role Playing is all about choices too. If you think that doing this is ruining it, you don't have to. The people that want to pay the money and get it done. Just like server transfers or anything like that. |

I'm sure they'll make you change race to one of the new faction's as part of this, but...I hope not. I wanted a high elf, Alliance character from the very beginning...I'd change my blood elf (elves, actually...have a few of them now) to Alliance in a heartbeat! |

My first toon was a Tauren Warrior (Meanbek) that I rolled on Thrall server. I leveled him to 60, was working on tanking gear for MC when Naxx was originally released. BC released, leveled to 70, started into Kara. Guild (Apocalypse) falls apart to drama. My group of 40 raiders /gamequit and spreads into LotR online. Convinced two of my best friends to start playing, but they wanted a Central Time zone server...and to be alliance. My raiding Warlock was born. If this gives me a chance to bring my warrior and priest to the alliance side (as I never leveled others), and consolidate my account, I would pay for it. |

This is a terrible, terrible idea. What will this do for game balance? In most battlegroups battlegrounds are one sided. Sometimes the alliance ALWAYS wins and other times the horde ALWAYS wins. So if you find yourself in this situation (as I do) and are given the option of switching to the winning team for a one-time fee wouldn't you do it? Of course you would! Who doesn't want to win all the time? But then the disadvantaged side will become completely devoid of all but the most dedicated players and battlegrounds will become pointless with numbers like 15-3 every time. This is just another blizzard cash in for what they know is a declining game.

They will keep the races on the same side, however - I hope it has severe side effects from transferring so people will think wisely on their choices. |

I disagree Sasztam, I am on Draenor and Ally heavily out numbers us, but I would never switch, nor would any of the friends I have on the Horde side. Most actually used to be alliance and didn't enjoy it so they came over to the horde. If anything I think this may balance things more since they will be able to bring the characters they like over to the side they like. People will no simply switch sides because they are outnumbered, especially on non-pvp servers where being out numbered means almost nothing. Especially now with the wintergrasp limitations of 100/side. |
