On the PTR : universal tier tokens and extendable raid locks

More news from the PTR and more changes to raiding coming up with 3.2:

Universal Tier Tokens
: looks like Blizzard is changing the way tier tokens work. If you've had your Breastplate of the Wayward Conqueror drop 10 times, but keep missing out on your Mantle of the Wayward Conqueror, you'll be pleased to hear that in the PTR, tokens are not slot specific (a single token can be exchanged either for a head, chest, legs, gloves or shoulder). So with every token that drops, you can pick up a different piece of your tier!

Extendable Raid Lockouts : Good news for casuals (is there any other kind of news lately for you guys?) another change to raiding in the PTR is the ability to have your raid ID's last longer than from Tuesday to Tuesday. If you're stuck at Freya on Monday night and want to pick up on Tuesday, you can extend the raid lockout for another several days! Wow.com also speculates that you may be able to finish off your extended raid lock out and immediately start fresh.

Its becoming a bit too casual..

its great for others, but for serious raiders, this is a bit too much.

I feel that tier items represent your achievements.. if I see someone wearing t8.5 yoggy shoulders, I know this guy earned em. Now you can just farm one easy boss for weeks and get your whole tier set done in no time.

Re: On the PTR : universal tier tokens and extendable raid locks

People complain all the time about what blizzard isn't doing, seems like they don't seem to get much appreciation for when they come out with something great and semi-game changing like this. I can't wait for 3.2 with all the awesome changes coming.

Re: On the PTR : universal tier tokens and extendable raid locks

The thing about making the game more casual friendly is that it usually doesn't affect the hardcore raider in the least. It is also a misnomer to label extended lockouts as a "casual only" change. If you are on progression content, regardless if that content is Arachnid Quarter in Naxx or 25man Hard Mode Arthas' Throne room (not yet in game), then being able to extend a lock out is a good thing.

Additionally I don't think having tier gear, except in the early stages, is a good indication of how hardcore or bleeding edge you are. IMO the true badge of accomplishment is either the title or mount that comes with beating new content, especially the limited time mounts. For example I, an admitted casual, will never.....ever be able to get a plagued proto drake. If you got it, that's hardcore.

I agree with this. Think there are other ways to recognize 'eliteness' other than tier gear drops. Drakes & titles aside, there are plenty of non-tier drops from hard modes and the like that you're unlikely to ever see a casual sporting. It was really annoying for me that I could never get the damn glove T7.5 to drop (or had my traditionally miserable rolls whenever it did) while shoulder, leg and chest tier was dropping left and right - hopefully now that's not a problem.

Re: On the PTR : universal tier tokens and extendable raid locks

The people who complain the the "casuals" are getting everything without having to work for for it, seem to forget that each time Blizzard has done this (and it's been a few times now) new tiers show up that they only the hardcore raiding guys are going to get. Who cares if some guy gets tier 8 gear from running heroics when you're decked out in the full tier 9 set after running 25 man Crusader's Coliseum on hard mode.

Re: On the PTR : universal tier tokens and extendable raid locks

the change is nice, shame it won't get passed to down to ulduar ( well unlike by the looks of things ). I won't mind getting my t8.5 shoulders ( or maybe it will drop this week now i've whined about it )

the extendable raid lock is interesting... I just hope it works on a per person basis otherwise it will screw up pug raids

Re: On the PTR : universal tier tokens and extendable raid locks

I ran OS on my resto shammy with another resto shammy decked out in ulduar gear the other night.
I thought we had a ringer of a healer & gave him MT healing even though it was a guild sponcered run.

This idiot pulled aggro not once, not twice, but 3 times & got one-shotted before the tank even reached the mob/s.

What the heck was he doing?
Recount shows him DPSing.

HE WAS OUR MT HEALER!!

After the 3rd wipe he said we sucked & dropped from the raid.

sorry, gear don't mean anything to me.
It looks cool and all but how you play is what counts in my book.

These changes are good.
I cannot conceivably progress in naxx right now.
I've got one night a week where I can sit in front of the computer for 4 or 5 hrs.
I got a wife & kids I can't ignore them like that two days a week.

This will allow our guild (composed of other married men like myself to actually progress)

Well stated! I am in the same situation and I like the new raiding changes.

It's a little unfair for 'hardcore' people to complain. You guys lose absolutely nothing (except maybe the chance for an epeen increase) and some aspects of the game become more friendly to the people who can't raid until their eyes fall out. For that matter who says that somebody didn't earn the full set of tier gear that they got from running heroics? That would cost hundreds of badges and represent countless hours of effort. Who says that a big investment of time is less valid than leetness.

On the other hand, I'm not sure that I would continue to allow people to buy the tier tokens with badges under these circumstances. A couple of pieces to help you get started with a huge price tag was fine but you really should have to do real raids to get the stronger set bonuses.
