Haste to affect DoTs?

Blue comment on DoTs & Haste posted by Nosforat:

Found an interesting post by a blue in the Shadow Priest QA.

Question 3: Does blizzard intend to make haste effect dots? As you all may know this would help with some scaling issues and I don't see why they couldn't do this, they already did it with crits!
"It's something we're talking about. Haste is a problematic stat for a number of reasons. It isn't always good for example if you don't have enough room in your rotation to fit another spell. It isn't good if you're GCD capped. Now, it's okay -- in fact preferable -- that stats aren't equal for everyone. We like that not all casters would look at say a ring with haste, crit and spirit the same way. "

Re: Haste to affect DoTs?

I find it strange this was mentioned in response to SP qa but not a word of it in our QA.

Strange indeed.

I saw that "it's something we're talking about", but the rest of the sentence reads "but I don't agree that it should be done". And I'm not too sure I want another stat to try to stack, myself.

Since Haste is pretty common on the higher ilevel gear, I think this could be quite a boost. The having to cast DoTs a little more often might be annoying though.

Oh, I dunno. I don't play affliction myself but I've heard much complaining about the fact that most of your damage comes from a filler spell that isn't even in the affliction tree. What if affliction had minimal filler and focused on renewing dots? Sure, it might be harder but I have always heard much complaining over affliction being made 'too easy' in many people's opinion.

Just something to think about.

Re: Haste to affect DoTs?

why not just keep the durations all the same but decrease the time between ticks, after a certain point you would get an extra tick, more haste, another extra tick...

Re: Haste to affect DoTs?

Surely all this would mean is that they would have to reduce the amount of damage our DoTs do if they increased their speed otherwise we would become to overpowered.

Does this mean you don't look for haste already?

What are you talking about. After hit cap stats for all warlocks go SP > Haste > Crit. You should already be all over haste it will just benefit us even more than it already does.

Definitely for Destro but for affliction (which is similar to spriest), haste is still better than crit, but it's a much smaller margin of being better. When the margin of difference is that small, simulations are OK as a guide, but real play can make a difference as well as what gear you have available.

Anyway, I think this more applies to spriests because right now haste according to simulation is a better stat to stack than crit, but it's also been theorycrafted for spriests that there is a sweet spot of haste to achieve where beyond that point rotations get messed up.
