Blizzcon More Detail on the Guild Advancement System

There's quite a lot of news, so just summarizing. Full thread here

Guild Leveling and Talents
Players can earn guild experience through leveling, reputation ranks, boss kills, Battleground and Arena wins, and profession ranks. The top twenty earners from the guild per day will contribute to the guild experience total. With every acquired level, guilds will receive talent points that they can then spend towards their guild talent tree, which affects all guild members in the guild. Additionally, guild experience is converted into guild currency that can be used to purchase a wide variety of rewards, such as guild profession plans and reagents, vanity items, and talent respecs.

Guild Professions
Guilds that use guild currency to purchase profession plans will be able to share any purchased plan with the rest of the guild via a vendor and skill trainer. Guilds are also able to create guild heirlooms; these items bind to the guild so that anyone in the guild will be able to acquire them. Guild members will also be able to take advantage of being able to create guild-specific versions of items that require fewer or different reagents. The new reagents are purchased from guild vendors via guild currency, and there will be support for all professions.

Looking for Guild

With the Looking for Guild feature, we’re making it easier for players to find a guild. We’re also looking to provide guild leaders more options to make it easier to recruit new members.

Guild Achievements
Players can earn achievements as a guild, with each requiring a minimum ratio of guild members to complete. We’ve also introduced new achievements that guilds can partake in.

Features
Guilds will receive a special guild news-feed that will show them updates on happenings within the guild such as achievements, boss kills, etc. Guilds will also have access to profession info for their members and more. In addition to these features, guilds will also be able to acquire a percentage of gold looted on boss kills that will go directly to the guild bank. Additionally, guilds will be able to invite other guilds to events.

Re: More Detail on the Guild Advancement System

I like everything except for the "Guild Leveling and Talents" section. The game is already overly complicated, never mind the social complexities of guilds. It sounds like something that will put more pressure on guild members and that pressure will make it more difficult to keep the same group of players together for the long haul.

I <3, my guild. But I'm not sure I want to have discussions regarding the Guild Talent Point distributions and if players who are more casual are pulling their weight when it comes to the Guild Level. It is just sound overly complicated and not very fun.

I think it sounds pretty good. I just hope it doesn't further punish small guilds. Looks like you'll need at least 20 good toons to not get 'behind'.
One of the things they mentioned being able to get through the guild talent system is 'Mass Resurrection'. After a while, talents like that might work like 'Recruit-a-Pugger'!

Re: More Detail on the Guild Advancement System

I'm liking the guild changes shown so far. We don't actively recruit, but we do tend to get a lot of PUG people interested in us after they've run with us a time or two, because we're relatively polite, drama-free adults with lives, jobs (and sometimes kids), and we are decent enough players to down content. (We're not bleeding edge, but we get it down.)

If our guild came up when someone was looking through this system, I suspect we'd get a lot of talent contacting us that didn't know about us before because we don't openly recruit...we'd probably get a lot of the folks who can't raid 24/7 but who are pretty good for what time they have to devote to WoW, and the talented folks who can raid 24/7 but don't want to put up with the foul-mouthed children in some of the "hardcore" raiding guilds on our server.

I like these changes. They will benefit my guild (and me).

As for guilds allocating points...that's what the GMs and Officers would do, I'd assume. For a well-run guild, it'll probably be clear-cut what "perks" your type of guild would like. IE, a leveling-focused guild won't need a "mass rez". But they might like the + whatever % of gold that drops from mobs. But a raiding guild would love a mass rez. Less running for everyone.

For a terribad guild, you'll have drama and QQing and all sorts of fuss over the points. But that happens anyway in poorly run guilds, and it won't change with an expac...it's a part of life.

For the guilds in between, that have potential and aren't total disasters, the achievements will probably cause a greater guild cohesion and sense of teamship...particularly for the ones that don't raid.

And for people searching for a guild, this lets them know which guilds are top, and which are not. Sure, some people will compete to get into the "top" guilds, but chances are you can also approach guilds that are small but that have good people, if raiding with a gigantic guild isn't your thing. You just need to use the data you're presented with intelligently. More data = power to the people.

Here's to hoping for an awesome 'Looking for Guild' system! I think that feature is my favorite thus far, since my guild is in pretty much the same position yours is in.

Taking this at face value I think it will be great for good guilds.

Jakome has posted this perfectly

I have been in many guilds in my years in the game-the first raiding guild I joined was an example of a truely Terribad guild with a self centred pig as a GM that I Gquit rapidly- & have found that most raiding guilds have their ups & downs. Some raiding guilds cease to raid, some non raiding guilds start to raid & find the pitfalls soon enough. Many social/leveling guilds can be a really great place to be. I find that I tend to stay in a guild that doesn't suit me a bit too long-probably hoping for things to get better but in the end I always seem to have some friends in many guilds so its all good.

I do wonder what happens to the patterns/recipies that a guild member learns when they leave the guild or it disbands?

Re: More Detail on the Guild Advancement System

The patterns stay with the guild. As it seems right now, they are automatically transferred back to the guild bank. I would assume that by the time it goes to beta / live, it will simply remove the pattern on /gquit and refund the currency to the guild bank instead.

If anything i think it will strengthen guilds as it will give people more to work towards and might also show who is more worthy to take to raids etc as well. I think this will be a great thing for our guild.
